I'm just thinking about the fandom thing where grace gets turned into an eridian to make him live longer. When it actually happens, i don't think he would know how to move his body, let alone speak

i'm just imagining him, trapped in his own head, while Rocky hugs/comforts him, mute and immobile. like, everybody knows he's alive and thinking, but he just physically hasn't figured out how to do anything. Definitely extremely horrifying for him in the moment but it would be sweet to think about.

and imagine how it would be for rocky; you've done this experimental procedure, one of the many firsts in history's you've now got under your belt. Your best friend will finally live along with you for the rest of your life, but right now, he's barely alive in the first place. the only way you know he isn't dead is the quiet pulsing of blood. you're finally able to touch each other

In the book Rocky wears a shirt regularly and his lil belt thing while working, in the movie Rocky just has his belt/harness sometimes.

In my headcannon Eridians do have clothes, it’s just not common practice/expected to wear them all the time. Textiles are rare and hard to make, and clothes pretty much all have to be custom made because of the vast sizes and shapes Eridians come in.

Clothes and soft materials also insulate against noise, so most Eridians don’t like to wear anything because it impedes hearing slightly. Buuuuut Grace would find this to be rather nice! Being so sensitive to sound can be a bit much for someone who hadn’t grown up with it, and he ofc likes the soft feeling.

He would ask for a sweater to wear to class (much thicker and heavier than any Eridian would wear) all his excitable little pebbles would be hard to listen to for long periods of time, the dampening helps. And he feels more like himself wearing something soft and knit :3

I wonder if different eridian languages are like how there are different musical scales. The "do-re-me" thing is mostly just a western concept, and other areas of the world have different musical sets of measurement.

That's probably not the correct term, my knowledge on this subject only goes so far. Sorry about that.

Also what if there are different species of eridian like how there were different hominids. But where species like Neanderthals are functionally extinct, there could be entire groups of eridians that are distinctly different sub-species from Rocky's type.

I don’t know if Erid has multiple continents, but they have an ocean at least. It would just be really funny if one random group of eridians discovered space travel before they discovered their own multicultural landscape.

I think it's very funny that Andy Weir seemed to have thought of everything: Different atmospheres, gravities, pressures, language, way of speaking language, senses, etc.

Like it would've been cool as shit if they had a five note equal temperament scale, like gamelan music (get it cause they have five legs) Or maybe some multiple of three for the fingers or anything

I get that it wouldve been just another thing to have to explain to the reader but it seems funny to me that the one thing eridians and human have in common isnt even common to all humans
