Something else I would have liked to see more of throughout the series is Merlin just using his powers on instinct before he can stop it like when he saved Gaius from that fall.
It would’ve been cool to see Merlin struggling to contain all this power especially at the start of the series while he’s still learning to harness his magic:
Like maybe Arthur throws something at Merlin while half paying attention but Merlin’s magic stops it midflight and he has to quickly unfreeze and take the hit to avoid suspicion
Gwen asks Merlin to pass her the washing but it’s moving before he can even get his hands on it and Merlin has to scramble after it to grab the basket midair
Merlin’s carrying a meal up to the princes chambers and trips, his magic catching him and the tray of food and quickly righting them both, and Merlin glances around to see if anyone noticed
Gaius asks him to light a candle and suddenly every wick in the room is lit before he can even finish his sentence
It’s only after Gaius gives Merlin the spell book that he learns any kind of control, but even then, there would still be moments of panic or excitement that cause his magic to flare on instinct
Lancelot: I’m in love with you…
Gwen: I’m in love with you too.. but what would Arthur do if he found out
Arthur and Merlin subplot:
JustGirlyThings™. Give them a night they'll really remember, Morgana - Gwen is very supportive.
i do not hate merlin because he’s a victim. it’s that he becomes the gatekeeper of other people’s rage.
like—he looks at people who have been burned, betrayed, executed, ruined by the same crown he’s trying to protect… and he tells them no. he tells them to wait. to endure. to believe in a future that keeps getting deferred like a cruel joke.
“one day you’ll be free.”
but freedom doesn’t land in your lap just because you were patient enough. sometimes it never comes. sometimes all you get is more graves.
and merlin knows.he knows how the story ends. he knows arthur dies at mordred’s hand. he knows the “greater good” he’s building toward is stained before it even arrives.
so what does it mean, then, to deny other victims their anger? to stand between them and the only thing that feels like justice to them in that moment?
1000% agree. He's basically asking them to assimilate for an indeterminate amount of time and invalidating their rage bc he happens to have it pretty good comparatively and doesn't want to have to choose a side and give up his relative comfort and safety.
I love Merlin's personality and relationship with Arthur, but I have to constantly remind myself that he's asking people that Uther demonised, shunned and massacred to play nice bc... Arthur might come around one day and is slightly more polite about his hatred...?
It's a no from me, Merlin, sorry - they're entitled to defend themselves and they're entitled to their anger.
Merlin’s conversation with Kilgharrah re: His Destiny™ in Season 1, Episode 1 (slightly truncated, but I think it captures the spirit of it, 2.0).
Uther going mad after being betrayed by his daughter & being a tyrant who mistreated his children for most of his reign.... close enough, welcome back King Lear.

rest in peace to this diva
That might be your intimately intertwined destinies, my lord.
The TV show Bones (2005) is not real and it can't hurt me.
The TV show Bones is absolutely not real. What the fuck do you mean they named one of the main characters Pookie Noodlin Pearly-Gates Gibbons? And she changed her name at 18 when a new one came to her in a dream?
Merthur <3
Merlin: professional rage baiter.
@frogmerthur i needed to make it a reality
Ohhhhhhh, Arthur is down bad for Merlin immediatelyyyy.
