You have to understand, Louis wasn't asking Lestat to check if Regina looked like Claudia. He was asking Lestat to check whether Regina was Claudia. Claudia come back to him. Because reality and memories blended for him, he tells that to Lestat in the car. Lestat wasn't lying when he told Louis it wasn't her (Claudia)

It’s interesting to me how people will separate Slay The Princess into a love story about relationships and a philosophical, existential story about the question of change and life and death. Because I think one of the main points that the “love story” posits is how conflict is necessary for love in any capacity— not hatred, necessarily, but change, separation, conflicting goals. You cannot stay in the cabin forever.
