Yep, one building got toppled. The Jedi temple had been bombed as well. But still a far cry from the true destruction of war that could’ve been subjected to Coruscant by modern weapons systems.
The core worlds rarely got attacked by a campaign in TCW. Mostly because it wasn’t a real war. It was a scheme devised and mostly controlled by Sidious. Carpet bombing Coruscant would’ve killed billions on that planet.

I think Padme was just as trapped in the Senate and the incremental reforms that she tried to make as corporates and Palpatine take even more power. If anything, they both should have pulled away from the core worlds and Coruscant when the Clone Wars started and it became clear the Jedi weren’t trying to mediate at all.
Padme should have supported Anakin’s pleas to just get out at the start of ROTS.

I usually take that to mean Yoda rethinking their “Jedi are absolutely good” and will win any kind of war against the Dark Side stance. The Dark Side isn’t mythical, it’s just a manifestation of human selfishness.
The Jedi were wrong to assume that “balance” means their ways of detachment and moral ambiguity would win over the unquestionable loyalty of Anakin and everyone else in the galaxy.
Anakin Skywalker, is no more evil than the impoverished kid that Bruce Springsteen sang about in his famous song Born in the USA.

It is truly remarkable that people think they’re the same concepts. And if people think that, it’s no wonder they love to invoke Eastern philosophy to justify the Jedi Order
Let me break it down in Star Wars terms: if you believe in Divine Right, you can tell yourself that you follow the Will of the Force despite being completely isolated from the people. If you believe in Mandate of Heaven, however, Order 66 is a big blow to any claim of legitimacy by the Jedi.
You can’t claim to be upholding the Mandate of Heaven while isolated and alone. The mandate manifests as having broad support from the people, and then using that support to gain power. That image of a Chosen One single-handedly winning an army of millions doesn’t exist in Mandate of Heaven logic. And you can’t convince yourself that you’ll win a final victory eventually by simply having faith in Heaven or the Gods. There is an aspect of material reality in playing this game of power.
The power games of the Warring States period in China are wholly secular, even though they invoke words like “Gods” or “Heaven” in some books.
Pulling it back to real world politics. That’s why WH prayer circles break the brains of Chinese netizens, who’s never seen clergy “battle meditation” outside of D&D and RPG games.

Star Wars already draws a lot from real life and politics. I’m sure you’ve heard the Endor being inspired by Vietnam talk that GL gave in his past interviews. They’re just not very honest about it at times.
The fact that Star Wars draws so much on real-life history and politics is part of what makes it so interesting to me! (And I've written quite a few fics already, though mainly shortform ficlets because long fics take time and investment.)
It is interesting, but also kind of disturbing as you watch people get gaslit in the same way as Anakin and Padme. Like, you people just don’t know how to act differently, do you?

honestly, to all the pro jedi fans who rattle off about chinese philosophy: just do us a favour and get into kung fu panda instead. you really can't narrow the complexities of star wars down into a singular real-world asian philosophy. especially when the western christian influences in the source media are just as permeating, if not more so.
@eldritchdemigodskywalkers Lmao, in my honest opinion, no branch of Chinese philosophy would actually tolerate the Jedi Order as they were shown in PT. The Confucians would disown them, the Taoists would think they’re crazy, the Mohists would think they’re hypocrites. The legalists and Sun Tzu’s school of war would probably kill them for either Naboo or the Battle of Geonosis. The legalists would think they did a poor job of defending the Republic’s laws on Naboo. The war strategist would think the Jedi are too incompetent and caused unnecessary losses throughout the PT. Any other branch or important sect I’m missing here?
As for the fantasy aspect, I’ve got a story pitch:
1) Legend of the White Snake and Anidala crossover. Devote Buddhist and Taoist disciple White Snake knows exactly what Anakin feels like when he says he can’t live without Padme. That’s how she felt all those millennia ago towards her husband when the monks tried to take him away into the Jinshan Temple.
In this crossover, we can explore and compare what Taoist myths actually think about “Qi being derived from all life”, all life deserves a chance at humanity and the misguided Star War take.
Important distinction would be White Snake is literally a snake who spent 5000 years in quiet meditation/training before gaining human form and finding love with the reincarnated form of a young cowherder who saved her when she was young.
In Taoist mythicism, all creatures large and small, even inanimate objects rocks, can train and wield Qi (the Force’s parallel), not just a select group of super sentients, a chosen few. It’s not about light vs. dark, it’s not about doctrine or some vague “will of the Force”. The Qi has no will of its own. Respecting the humanity of these creatures is what it means to respect life.
like to me a lot of The Last Jedi discourse feels like if i mentioned really not liking The Courtship of Princess Leia and someone retorted with 'oh you just don't like that it said Han and Leia's romance wouldn't be smooth sailing post canon' and I'd be there like no that's a whole new sentence. i know what i didn't like about it and it wasn't that.
To continue the comparison, regardless of whether you're into the base concept of Leia deciding she doesn't want to marry Han and Han having to win her back, Leia announcing that she can't marry him bcos she's royalty and he's a commoner is perhaps the worst possible way to go about it

anakin and padmé are both not normal people.
anakin grew up as a slave, was the first human to complete, let alone WIN, a podrace, was the oldest person accepted into the order for generations, then grew up isolated & in a repressive, stagnant institution with a distant, overly critical mentor, whilst being groomed by the chancellor of the republic, all the time fearing for his still enslaved's mother life (& being incredibly powerful and the chosen one)
padmé (if we look at legends) grew up in a relatively normal, loving family, but also participated in intense traumatising work (think the dying planet mission her father took her on mentioned in AOTC deleted scenes), became princess of theed at twelve (when I was twelve my biggest concern was starting my first year of high school), then queen of an entire planet at fourteen, forced to make incredibly difficult decisions at fourteen when her normally peaceful planet was put under seige, was practically worshipped by her people, then at twenty two (when most people are studying at uni or getting their first jobs) entered the cutthroat corrupt world known as the galactic senate.
point is, anakin and padmé have vastly atypical life experiences. however, they are not fucked up people. inherently, they share kindness, compassion, and a selfless drive to help people. they find it difficult to relate to people because they grew up socially isolated, albeit for different reasons.
nor is their romantic relationship 'fucked up'. it is intense and unusual - by design. it is a mythic romance disconnected from realism. they love each other deeply. their relationship provides a sanctuary for both of them during a deeply difficult time for both of them - the clone wars (this is exemplified best by the start of ROTS & 2003 TCW [2008 TCW leans on realism and tropefication]).

anidala are a mythic couple whose love is celebrated by the story.
they are not normal.
that does not mean they are fucked up.
it means they are otherworldly and unique.

I don’t know, their life seems only atypical by today’s standards. Take things a couple hundred or thousand years where people are considered full grown adults at 16 years old.
Monarchs getting crowned at the age of 14 aren’t so rare back in that era. Especially if Naboo is an elected monarchy and the Queen is more symbolic than actual ruler. In my opinion, “mythical” just means fantastical tales of magic and fantasy from ancient times. So the age for Anakin and Padme matches those times just fine.
