Fili, Kili by Lin.
Kili baby in the arms of Thorin
to victory | Dís & Fíli
Fili nodded in his agreement, a single night of rest would be enough for him as he was eager to return to his brothers side. Though they had learned what it was like to be separated from one another during their long journey to reclaim Erebor, Fili still did not like it. He felt naked without the familiar presence of Kili at his side and he would not hesitate if his mother wished to leave so soon, nor would he force it upon her. What fond smile might have shown itself upon his brothers reluctance to keep still became more serious when the subject returned to Thorin.
"Aye, and he learned some techniques from the Elves," Fili admitted and he banished his hand aside as if to discard the mention of Elves tempermentally. "I’ll tell you the rest of the tale upon our journey on the road?"
Fili obeyed, taking a mouthful of her stew and sighing satisfyingly at the heat and the taste. “It’s safer than when we set out, but no less treacherous in some places. I also think with the paths being so active there is likely to be more bandit raids and ambushes on the roads.” Fili revealed and he mulled over the question of the ponies as he ate.
"It would make the trip easier I think." Fili reached into his jacket pocket and took out a pouch of the dwarvish gold Thorin had given him from the Dragon Hoard. "That should be enough to purchase two, as well as provisions for the road and maybe a new travelers cloak for you." He smiled then, "I would have bought you one myself but the stalls were closed by the time I arrived."
Dis raised an eyebrow at the mention of Elves, both in amusement (Thorin? Listening to Elves?) and mild annoyance (none in her family were fond of them, of course). It wasn't surprising, however, that they had techniques to share. Although Dwarves lived longer than most, the Elves had them beat by quite a lot, and anyone who has been around for thousands of years would have vast knowledge. However, Erebor was in Dwarven hands once more. They couldn't afford to lose it by offending their neighbors, and so it was good that her stubborn brother was willing to deal with them.
"I can wait. The journey will seem shorter if there are tales to be told, and surely you have much to tell." Not to mention that it would be best if she had some rest before hearing much more concerning information. There was no doubt in her mind that her brother had dragged her sons into danger more than a few times during their quest, and knowing about the Sickness and the battle was enough news for one night. She nodded. "Bandits are easily dealt with, and my blades are always sharp. They will be sorry they attacked."
Although Ered Luin was a mostly peaceful place, Dis always made sure to keep her skills as sharp as her blades for traveling for much of her childhood had taught her to always be prepared. Thieves didn't care how old you were or how desperately you needed what you did have.
"You'd have been ambushed for news of the Mountain if they were open," she said with a laugh. "But we won't let them stop us in the morning." Picking up the pouch, Dis pulled out a coin and stilled. It wasn't just any gold - it was gold from Erebor.
"Your uncle and I used to play in the treasure room." Her voice was rough. "When Adad wasn't making him study. We used to pretend he was King, and Amad would always let us take a coin or two to get a toy or something sweet from Dale." She shook her head as she put the coin back in the pouch, smiling sadly at her son.

His eyes widened at her words. “Really?!” he asked hopefully, sniffling, leaning away as she wiped his face. “No!” he cried, hurt. He loved it when Uncle came in from the forge late at night and sang to him, how he fit right against Thorin’s broad chest, how his Amad could tuck him right beneath her chin and make him feel safe. He quickly scurried into her lap frantically, hugging her neck. “Like being short!” he yelped, nosing into her neck.
Dis buried her laughter into his hair as he hugged her. It was no secret how much Kili liked being held (at least not to her), and maybe she had used it against him in a way, but it seemed to be the only way to get him to see the bright side of being small. (Which was something she missed herself sometimes.) Running her hand down his back softly, the dwarrowdam kissed the top of her son's head.
"You will like being tall, too," she said wryly, "but that is years away. I'm sure your uncle and I will carry you many times before then. Now, you should get dressed. We have flowers to pick."
"How are you, amad?"
"Tired, but my youngest is here, and I am always glad for it. I trust you are well, my little stone?"
Kili beamed at his mother and embraced her tenderly. ” I missed you, amad!” He smiled slightly.
She hugged him back tightly.
"And I missed you, too. Everyday. My heart is very, very happy to see you again."
