Okay. I was on my beloved AO3 and I saw something that made me do a double take. So, now I really want to know…
What is your AO3 user ID?

I’m so curious to see how long people have been on AO3! I know some people have been on there since beta/invite only, but I would love to see what the number is on tumblr!
as in you'll never achieve the perfect daily routine, sleep schedule, coping mechanisms, mannerisms, fashion sense etc. even after years and years of healing and improvement and self-discovery. you will never be so good at life that you manage to utilize every waking moment. its great to be productive and all but sometimes you'll suck ass. sometimes you'll take eight hours to be done with a twenty minute job. you'll prioritize the wrong thing. you'll sleep for 12 hrs just to avoid being awake. you'll relapse. and you'll relapse again. you'll forget to turn in the assignment. you'll order too little food. life is far too large and complex for you to even experience it completely, much less try to make sense of and control it. you can't. please give up on that and be at peace with the hours you lose. they are not separate from your life.
Takes place the summer after high school graduation. Dustin is 18 and Steve is 22. Established relationship but also this is small town Indiana in the 80s, so they can't be super open. Sexual situations but not super explicit.
----
The seat of the photo booth is hard plastic and suspiciously sticky, something Dustin’s brain only registers for a moment before Steve crowds in and pulls the curtain shut behind him. Steve slides next to him so they are thigh to thigh, and Dustin feels a thrill shoot through him as Steve slings an arm over his shoulder and pulls him further flush against his side. Steve’s body is warm in the already humid summer air, but Dustin finds he couldn’t care less as his palm finds Steve’s thigh and squeezes.
“Are you sure no one else saw us?” Dustin whispers against Steve’s throat before sneaking a soft kiss there. His skin is salty with a thick layer of sweat, and Dustin has to fight the urge to lick him.
“The rest of the Goonies are all too busy playing bumper cars,” Steve murmurs into Dustin’s hair, fingers squeezing and massaging at the slope of his shoulder. There’s an air of desperation to each touch. Dustin’s been dying to hold Steve close all night, but the crowd of the Hawkins July 4 Fair is hardly the place for it.
The small curtain flutters minutely with each passing body outside, and Dustin wishes they were somewhere even more private. He continues to nuzzle at Steve’s throat, a soft whimper caught in his mouth at the idea of what he would give to peel Steve out of his slightly sweat-damped polo.
“Okay, uhm,” Steve swallows hard, Adam’s apple bobbing beneath Dustin’s parted lips. “I need to uh– give me a second, we need to pay for some actual photos, right?” Steve fumbles in his jean pockets, and when he pulls his wallet free Dustin can see his fingers are trembling slightly.
“One dollar for four photos,” Dustin reads off the sign, turning to rest his head on Steve’s shoulder.
Steve leans down to feed a dollar bill into the slot, and Dustin takes the opportunity to run his fingers up and down Steve’s spine, enjoying the warm feel of his body beneath his palm.
“All right, what kinds of poses should we do?” Steve asks, voice cracking a little as he sits up. “Something goofy, like maybe bunny ears, or–?”
Dustin laughs as the photo booth machine starts beeping a countdown. “How about I’ll pretend I’m a vampire, and you pretend you’re my helpless victim–”
Steve’s eyes are wide and confused as he processes what Dustin’s just said, lips parting like he's trying to remember how words are formed. “Your... victim…?”
Several things happen at once. Dustin lunges up to wrap his arms around Steve’s head and neck and open his mouth around the tendon that connects to Steve’s shoulder, teeth closing down slightly in a slobbery bite. Steve yelps. The timer goes off and there’s a flash as the camera shutter clicks.
“Dustin, what the fuck–?” Steve is saying, but Dustin isn’t listening. He’s latched on and doesn’t think he ever wants to let go. He doesn’t bite down fully enough to draw blood, but he can feel Steve tense beneath him at the sensations. He flicks his tongue out to lick at the skin enclosed in his lips, and the noise Steve makes in response sends something thrill straight to Dustin’s dick. “Fuck…”
Without detaching from his neck, Dustin readjusts his legs so he’s kneeling on the bench beside Steve, which gives him greater access to the full expanse of Steve’s throat. He begins biting and sucking up the side of Steve’s neck, enjoying the gasps of pleasure he’s wringing out of his boyfriend as he does. Steve’s arms wrap around Dustin’s waist encouragingly, dragging him even closer by the hips until Dustin is practically in Steve’s lap.
There’s another flash and click, but Dustin neither hears nor cares. “God, I’ve been dying to do this to you all night,” Dustin whispers into the space between Steve’s jaw and the hollow behind his ear. He nibbles the bottom of his lobe. “You taste amazing.”
“Dust–” Steve sounds wrecked. “You’re killing me.”
Dustin skims his hand down Steve’s inner thigh until he feels him already straining against his jeans. He grins against Steve’s skin, feeling devilish, and starts to grind the heel of his palm against him.
Steve lets out an indignant squeak and bats his hands away, pushing Dustin off of him in the process. They stare at each other, panting and dazed, and there’s a flash as the camera snaps for the third time.
“Not here, dude,” Steve whispers urgently, cheeks flushed.
“Steve,” Dustin whines, and as if he can’t stop himself he’s already running his hands through Steve’s hair, smoothing a sweaty lock back from his forehead. Dustin is still kneeling above him on the bench, but he feels a little embarrassed now. Exposed. He always pushes things too far with Steve, just can’t help himself–
Brown eyes meet his, considering and hungry. Dustin forgets to breathe for a moment as Steve wraps his hands around the back of his head and tugs him down to press their lips together for a long, lingering kiss.
The camera flashes for the fourth and final time.
Dustin feels Steve’s tongue probe at the entrance to his mouth and he parts his lips in response, letting Steve deepen the kiss and plunge his tongue further in to explore. Steve licks soft gasps of pleasure out of Dustin’s mouth, and now he feels heady and weak, like maybe Steve is the vampire after all and he’s feeding on Dustin. They get lost in each other for a few moments longer, the world outside of their photo booth far away and unimportant.
Until a loud banging against the side of the booth sends them springing apart from each other like they’ve been electrocuted. As if he's just come up from below water, the roar of the carnival and sounds of music returns, raucous and insistent.
“Hey guys, are you done in there?” It’s Lucas, voice mildly annoyed. “Your photos are printing–”
Dustin moves faster than he ever has in his life, including when he was being chased by the Mindflayer. He explodes out of the photo booth curtains just in time to shove Lucas away from the small plastic basket of the photo dispenser. “I’ll take them!”

project hail mary is a touching and poignant film that leaves you asking questions about humanity like, "wow what if all mainstream media was genuinely good" and "what if book adaptions actually gave a shit about the book in question" and "what if studios hired actors that could actually act, and then let them get a lil wacky with it"
Here is an article from NPR about it (May 22, 2026):
Carolina Milanesi, an independent technology analyst, said Google is trying to make its cash cow business — search — richer and more personalized, and it will make shopping easier. But there is a risk that users may have fewer choices about what to click.
"Right now it's: I ask a question, I get a bunch of answers and I feel that I'm in control as to which answer I take, or if I'm looking for something, which product I'm going to end up buying. That is going to be less so going forward," she said.
Milanesi envisions AI-enabled search and agents proposing products to consumers — perhaps even those they have requested — but with less clarity or choice around where it's coming from.
"If you're going to say: 'I want a pair of Jordans, go find them,' you're not necessarily sure what steps have been taken and whether the AI has used a source or a store that was paid for and therefore came up in the search results," she said, "or if AI actually went and did their due diligence and picked the best for me as a customer."
And here's one from Time magazine (May 20, 2026):
While Google already has “AI Mode,” the company will now power the whole search bar through its new Gemini 3.5 Flash model.
Instead of the classic list of blue links, Google Search will now also generate a custom page with an AI-generated summary of what you’re searching about, which will then trigger a conversation with AI Mode on the main page, allowing users to ask follow-up questions—similar to the kind of layout you would see when opening ChatGPT.
And a little more from Time's article on how this may affect the websites that we are trying to search for:
When Google first started implementing AI-assisted results, news publishers warned of “catastrophic” impacts on the industry, much of which relies on Google search to drive users to their websites.
Last year, news websites saw significant traffic declines as chatbots increasingly replaced Google search as the primary way to find sites and ask questions.
Small businesses also noted drops in traffic to their sites from Google, which has traditionally delivered customers.
Lily Ray, vice president of SEO strategy & research at Amsive, a digital marketing agency, warned as early as last year that Google’s planned changes to search are “going to have a devastating impact on the Internet.”
“It will severely cut into the main source of revenue for most publishers and it will disincentivize content creators who rely on organic search traffic, which is millions of websites, maybe more,” she told Technology Magazine.
I noticed yesterday when I was looking up the etymology of a word it gave me an ai answer instead of the usual word derivation and synonyms list (that has been present pre-ai). Useless. Beyond useless now.
[big billow of dust] I'M ALIVE! I haven't posted art or even made art lately that I have been very proud of. But here I am, posting rarepair fanart of Stranger Things.
