It's been a couple of years. Mental illness has left me painfully isolated, pandemic or no pandemic. Part of me yearns for romantic love, wants to gift little pieces of myself to those I cherish, though there's nobody there anymore. Loneliness weighs heavy on me, but I am healing nonetheless. I wonder if anyone remembers me, if I'm even a spark in your memories. I am tired, and I am okay.

I've been dreaming, lately.

Sometimes, the dreams are nice.

Sometimes, I can remember the feel of the sun blazing down on us, the strength of your thighs beneath me, curling up on your lap with a head full of teenage drama.

Sometimes, I can remember playing with your hair, burying my fingers in those rich mahogany curls, the feeling of your red, red nails running down my back.

Sometimes, the dreams are bad.

Sometimes, I can remember how hot you burned. Your hands, not that much bigger than my own but far stronger, the tight grip of them around my wrists. The scars on your arms when they'd tense just before you lunged.

Sometimes, I can remember looking in the mirror and seeing you. Seeing your love in the way my bones stuck out, in the grooves between my ribs, in the stinging nail marks on my skin.

Usually, I don't dream, and that's for the best.
