Noctis and Prompto are an absolutely iconic best friend duo because out loud Noctis will be saying something like “meh, whatever” while his inner monologue will be “I love my friends so much it hurts and I wish I knew how to better express my appreciation for them” while Prompto will be saying something like “c’mon, man, lighten up! Have some fun! Live a little! Wanna go ride a chocobo? C’mon, you know you do—“ while his internal monologue will be “I’ll never be good enough. My friends all secretly hate me, and they should. I don’t deserve to be happy”

There will never be another game like Final Fantasy XV because it's a whole ass triple A title that stumbled backwards into accurately portraying the intense boredom and low level existential crisis of going on a roadtrip with your college friends. This was accomplished by having it stuck in development hell for ten years.

It's an open world game that actively sucks to explore. The clock on the dashboard works in game even though you literally cannot see it without mods. There's whole swathes of interesting locations that are alluded to but the primary setting is the empty plains of midwest america. There's bespoke animations for your party members complaining about a rock in their shoe. The entire magic system is completely inscrutable. It has maybe the most masterful emotional storytelling through sheer UI choices that I have ever seen in a video game. We had to ask one of the creative heads of the project to leave seven years into development because he got really invested in making the game a musical.

It's like lightning in a bottle, but way less awe-inspiring. Tempest in an empty mayo jar.

I'm sorry I'll never be over how funny the chocobros are. There's two different guys who essentially grew up alongside the MC, putting his life before their own and in parts helping raise him for the grand destiny that is about to befall all of them.

And then one totally normal dude you met in highschool who got one month of gun training.

I do like Prompto's episode in the anime, but I don't really like that he got told by Luna to befriend Noct. I just liked the idea that he was just a good friend who naturally befriended Noct. And then the group adopted him, got him trained by Cor, and took him on adventures.

Random Prompto headcanons:

-Prompto is the best liar/secret keeper out of the bros unless it's something trivial

-He had corrective eye surgery once it was known he'd be accompanying Noctis for his roadtrip. He didn't want to risk losing his glasses if they ran into trouble.

-He keeps a clean room out of habit and sometimes sneaks helping clean up

-In school Prompto was great at math and above average in his scores but slacked off to be seen as normal

-Technophile who loves learning how things work and enjoys keeping his hands busy

-When sleeping he becomes an octopus. It doesn't matter if he starts out bound tight in blankets he WILL sprawl.

-Prompto is so touchy-feely with his friends because he's touch-starved

-Those hands are rated E for Everyone when he's close enough emotionally to a person. It doesn't matter if it's a shoulder check, slap to the back (cough butt coug) or just straight up leaning on a person for skinship

Gladio and Ignis are still just getting ot their feet so they're nto able to help yet. Noctis will be a bit more careful with his spells after this...
