No one talking about how Nebula had to cover her mouth to keep from audibly crying out when she heard Rocket’s voice through the communicator. She was so relieved to hear her brother pulled through. She cared for him so much that we got to see the most stoic character break and show some raw emotion.
Some of y’all really think racism in America looks like this:
When it really looks like this
You are not exempt from racism just because your country’s version is not the same as ours
Oh def reblogging this version
why are terrible celebrity imagines so funny. how do i find more of these without suffering the indignity of searching “bts imagines”
more of these please
the way s4 is the best/funniest series of the entire revival and yet the most harrowing to rewatch because they decided to weave donna’s fate all the way through so you’re spending every single second thinking about what she, and the doctor, are going to lose….
evil.
David Tennant and Catherine Tate at the BAFTA TV Awards
happy lesbian week!!
just saw someone reviewing the erin hunter books like, ‘they should publish the whole series at once, i don’t want to wait a whole year to read it’. like babe i hate to break it to you but,,,, go touch some grass and think about your relationship with consumerism okay, because it’s gotten really weird on you
I’ve heard these kinds of sentiments in regards to novels, as well as readers outright refusing to read fantasy series debuts because “they fear committing to something unfinished” (like refusing to read an incomplete fanfic on AO3…) in case the author dies, or isn’t able/doesn’t complete the work. The GRRM effect, if you will.
Regardless of how people feel towards the authors personally, I will continue to bleat, til the day I die, artists do not owe an audience anything. They are not in debt to you. They don’t owe their works to their readers, no exceptions, there is no “earned/lost trust” or “unspoken contracts.” Capitalism has got people treating artists and entertainers as though they should hop on their bicycles like a chained bear, the moment the audience cracks its whip.
There’s also this fun aspect of capitalism where your favorite (usually marginalized) author doesn’t get another book contract or have the rest of the series picked up or have the money to keep investing their time in that project because you refused to buy the thing until it was finished.
Not only do creators not owe their audience anything, but those who really truly want to give these things to their audience are directly prevented from doing so by this exact mentality!
On Saturday, in New York, a group of friends pulled into a strangers driveway to turn their car around. The homeowner came outside, shot at them, and killed one of the 20 year old women in the car.
Last Thursday, in Kansas City, a 16 year old boy ended up at the wrong address by mistake trying to pick up his younger siblings. He rang the doorbell. The homeowner shot him in the head. He is, miraculously, alive and recovering.
Yesterday, in Texas, a group of high school cheerleaders stopped at a grocery store on their way home. One of them opened the door to the wrong car by mistake, realized her mistake, and quickly retreated and found her friends car nearby. The man in the car followed her and shot at the group. 2 were shot. One remains hospitalized.
In less than a week- 3 people, doing normal, nonmalicious, nonthreatening, everyday things. Turning around in a driveway, ringing the wrong doorbell, going up to the wrong car by mistake. And with no escalation, no warning, it turns to gun fire.
It's a terrible intersection of easy access to firearms and an entitlement to use violence against others. All 3 of these recent incidents were so unprovoked and unjustifiable, and the core thread remains the same.
A man who felt entitled to use violence and had the means to do so with a firearm.
I don't even know what to say.
A manhunt is underway near Charlotte, North Carolina, after a 6-year-old and her dad were seriously wounded when a neighbor reportedly began
Literally what in the *fuck* is happening.
people who feel a need to have a gun all the time are terrified all the time. people who are terrified all the time are dangerous all the time.
alison bechdel, fun home
nobody is too good or too smart to become addicted to something btw and anyone acting like addiction is a moral failing/a sign of being unintelligent/etc has clearly never been in a situation like that. it isn't a coincidence that most addicts are otherwise disabled/chronically ill or mentally ill
You know our society is fucked up when people seriously think being a criminal defense attorney is like. A moral evil. Like people seriously jump to “wow you defend murderers” as if the majority of “crime” that happens on a daily basis isn’t literally stuff like addicts being caught possessing drugs or homeless people being arrested for loitering or fucking poor women stealing food and clothes for their kids like… the average person is just one or two paychecks away from also being deemed a “criminal” by society but yeah sure you should definitely act like needing to be defended against the state makes you an automatically morally bad person
It's not a mistake that in popular police procedural dramas legal defense for the suspect is portrayed as comically evil and the viewer is lead to believe that criminal defense gets in the way of police helping people lol
love the red on this one. real
AO3 Etiquette
It would seem a whole new kind of AO3 reader/writer is emerging and it is becoming clear not everyone quite understands how the website community works. Here is some basic guidance on how most people expect you to go about using AO3 to keep this a fun community archive that funtions correctly:
Kudos is for when the story was interesting enough to make you finish reading. If it sucked or was badly written, you probably left. If you finished - you kudos.
If you liked it, you should comment. It can be long and detailed or a literal keysmash. Writers don't care, we just love comments.
No critisism unless the author has specifically asked or agreed to hear it. Even constructive critisism is a no-no unless an author note tells you it's okay. Many people write as a fun hobby or a way to cope with, among other things, insecurity. Don't ruin that for them.
Do not comment to ask the author to write/update something else. It's tacky and off-putting and will probably have the opposite effect than the one you want.
There is no algorithm, it's an archive. Use the search and filter function to add/remove the pairings/characters/tropes etc. you want to read about and it will find you the fics that fit the bill.
For this to work, writers must tag and rate stories. This avoids readers finding the wrong things and missing the stuff they want. I don't care how cringy that trope is in your eyes - it gets tagged.
Character A/Character B means a ROMANTIC or SEXUAL relationship of some kind. Character A&Character B is PLANTONIC, like friendship or family.
Nothing is banned. This is an implicit rule because banning one thing is a slipperly slope to banning another and another, until nothing is allowed anymore. Do not expect anyone to censor for you. Because of the tags system, you are responsible for your own reading experience.
People can create new chapters and sequels/fic series any time after they "complete" a story. So it's considered perfectly normal to subscribe, even to a finished story. You can even subscribe to the author instead just to cover your bases.
Do not repost stories or change the publishing date without an extremely good reason (like a complete top to bottom rewrite). It's an archive, not social media. No one cares what's the most recent, only what fits their tag needs.
Avoid deleting a story you wrote if you hate it - orphan it so others can still enjoy it, without it being connected to you anymore.
This is a creative fanfiction archive. No essays on your insights or theories please. There are other places for that.
I KNOW there's plenty more I missed but I'm trying to cover most of the basics that people seem to be struggling with.
I invite anyone to add to this, but please explain, don't berate.
“I’m looking/searching for ___ fic” post is a super no-no, and actually against the TOS. Again, it’s an archive, not social media.
literally the bill provides a penalty of $250k and a minimum of 20 years for *using a vpn to access a website*. the list of banned websites can be updated at any time be an unelected appointee with no oversight or warning or even public announcement
It's bad, like, really bad. Fortunately, it's only been introduced to the Senate, and hasn't been voted on yet. There's still plenty of time to contact your representatives!
(Also, if you want to check out exactly how bad it is, you can read the bill here:
