One of the most common reasons I hear for people being against abortion is because “life is sacred.”
Really? Since when? When has life ever been sacred in this country?
If life is sacred, how come we don’t have universal healthcare?
If life is sacred, how come we don’t pass comprehensive gun laws so first graders don’t get gunned down in their classrooms?
If life is sacred, why don’t we offer paid maternal leave so mothers can actually take care of the babies that you are now forcing them to have?
If life is sacred, how come we don’t bat an eye when the police murder black kids?
If life is sacred, why do we have the highest maternal death rate in the developed world, which is only going to increase now that women are being forced to give birth?
If life is sacred, why is the death penalty even still a thing?
If life is sacred, why are we still encouraging violence against the LGBTQ+ community?
Life has literally never been sacred in this country. Maybe anti-choicers like to pretend that it is because it makes them feel righteous when in reality, they’re just misogynistic pieces of shit, but it’s not. And as long as psychotic, reactionary morons continue to steal power undemocratically and make decisions that the majority of us do not want, it never will be.
the special relationship is as strong as ever, lads
Just weighing on my mind because for some reason people don't understand the implications of the world we're living in.
Overturning RvW is just the first step. If they can/will take away the rights of straight, cishet, white women and get away with it, they will take down the rest of us with ease.
They're the minority with the most power. What does that mean for the rest of us. This doesn't end well.
If ever there was a clarion call for action (including violent action), now is that time.
“You can’t block the gay” should be on a tshirt.
IM SORRY BUT THIS IS FUNNY
happy pride month you can’t block the gay
EMBRACE THE GAY

God there's a Johns Hopkins study out now that says lockdowns in the US and Europe were largely ineffective at preventing covid deaths and only reduced them by around 3% while causing a huge economic burden and my first reaction was okay you're telling me the half assed lockdowns where workers still had to go to work every day and if you were lucky you maybe worked somewhere with a drive thru or outdoor seating but still came into close contact with your coworkers all the time didn't do shit in comparison to the actual lockdowns in countries that provided the means to actually shelter in place without leaving your home for 2-4 weeks and kept deaths to a minimum and got to more or less go back to normal after that until it started spreading again from Americans and Europeans? Big shock.
Then I looked at the report and the authors are all economics professors.
Not only are the authors all economics professors;
Oh, and BTW, that wasn’t even peer reviewed. Take a look:
https://sites.krieger.jhu.edu/iae/files/2022/01/A-Literature-Review-and-Meta-Analysis-of-the-Effects-of-Lockdowns-on-COVID-19-Mortality.pdf
About the Series The Studies in Applied Economics series is under the general direction of Prof. Steve H. Hanke, Founder and Co-Director of The Johns Hopkins Institute for Applied Economics, Global Health, and the Study of Business Enterprise ([email protected]). The views expressed in each working paper are those of the authors and not necessarily those of the institutions that the authors are affiliated with.
So Steve Hanke authored the paper and then published it where he is the editor.
The author of the paper is also the editor of the publication. It's pure propaganda.
A 3% reduction in deaths is hundreds of thousands of people. I am sure they are crying their eyes out that their survival disrupted the economy. In addition to the fact they are sacrificing human lives and wellbeing, they are also destroying the credibility of the academic establish in order to preserve the short term profitability of the wealthy.
Sure, people with the time and science literacy can tell the difference between this and an actual good faith study. But people without that background who have been told to "follow the science" aren't going to be able to tell at a glace why this study telling them to die so Panera bread makes it quarterly sales projections is full of shit while the one's indicating the importance of social distancing, vaccination, and wearing ppe aren't.
As an Australian, as a Melbournian, barely coming out of the longest lockdown in the world, this shit makes me SO angry.
We spent 2020 AND 2021 in near total lockdown, 18 solid months with only a tiny handful of reductions. And the entire time we were watching the US, and the UK, and many other places besides, in absolute horror.
Every day there was some new horrific news about the total catastrophe your governments were causing, the unimaginable toll it was taking. And we heard in particular Americans talking about “lockdown” as a thing that happened, as a thing that stopped... when at best all Trump could muster was the slightest pause.
It was utterly surreal in a city which ERADICATED covid. Literally we stayed locked in 2020 until every single last case was gone, and only then did we finally open the gates. And when the consistent embarrassment that is the Australian Federal government (vs the states who mostly responded reasonably and quickly with the exception of New South Wales) kept allowing cases to breach our quarantine, we locked down again.
And again.
And again.
6 times. 262 days.
And we eradicated it time and again, until Delta overwhelmed the system and we stayed locked down until nearly 100% of the population was vaccinated.
And you know what? Our economy did NOT collapse. Our lives did NOT end. We survived and we didn’t have large scale protests or anti-vax movement. 99% of people understood why we had to stay protected, and even after 18 months remained patient with the exhausting constant state of the world.
And when Omicron hit, just as we were finally recovering from Delta, the incompetent Federal government declared no more lockdowns, we had to get back to work for the economy. And the VAST majority of Australians told them to fuck off.
We went BACK into lockdown, without financial assistance, without orders, and without hesitation. Many of us are STILL in voluntary lockdown to this very day, to protect ourselves and our loved ones when the government refuses to. And in doing so, we saved our hospital system from being completely overrun, as case numbers soared into the tens of thousands a day.
And we’re still here, the economy still chugs along, and for the majority of us life continues as it has until now.
Understand that when they said they would sacrifice you for the sake of the economy, they meant profits. They meant millionaires and billionaires. They slaughtered MILLIONS of people so they wouldn’t lose any time exploiting and squeezing every last fucking cent they could out of the corpses. And they continue to do so as they allow Omicron to run rampant.
Fuck all of them. Fuck their systems. Fuck being politely murdered for the sake of their billions.
Fuck their economy.
The fact that there was a book burning just days ago, and it seems like no one around me is talking about it and the parallels to the rise of fascism really bothers me. I hate living through the end days of an empire. It's like watching a rerun and not being able to do anything about it.
i…. how is it a nazi thing????
The “White man with blond hair and blue eyes” originated as an “Aryan Superior Race” type of thing on like. 4Chan or something.
ok, if that’s true, that doesnt change the fact literally *nobody* uses it like that at all.
i’m not going to bother scraping through the internet to personally find examples, but here is a page explaining Nordic Gamer’s history and common use. it was made and used for racist purposes, and it’s absolutely something white supremacists and nazis co-opt. you just don’t blog where you see it happening.
Very closely related: the blue-eyed, blonde-haired girl meme.
You swipe through your Instagram feed and see a meme. There’s a badly drawn, blue-eyed, blonde-haired girl in a blue dress — it’s an image y

DPC and DPL. Dead People’s Clothes and Dead People’s Leather. Their toys, their paintings of half naked, naked, screwing men. The statues. The leather. The sling. The posters. The ... all of it. We’d literally Straighten homes. Depending. Some families knew and were fine. Or more ok. But pictures of other guys on phones was the least of it. I have... leather that’s been passed through three or four men who’ve died before getting to me. They’re the heirlooms now, passed down chosen families. Sometimes there were crews. We’d show up as soon as possible, as a unit. We’d hit the bedrooms first. Clear out closets, under beds, bedsides. We’d donate, throw out, take mementos. Pass on. Secret lives and secret, us only treasures. Then we’d leave. For some family’s you never talked about it. They never knew. It was better all around. I have vests, gloves. A belt. Arm bands. Paintings. T-shirts. Photos, undeveloped film that’d I’m still somewhat terrified to try to get developed (lol). We live on in the living rooms of others.
This is. A very important message for the younger generations of queers.
We still have so much father to go, but y'all. Don't let our past be forgotten.
maybe i am too old for tiktok
My son once came back from a record shop visit with his uncle and with wide eyes and excited smile presented me with a cassette tape. “Look what I found!” As though he’d unearthed ancient pottery at a dig sight.
I love it. I love when my kids discover something that I take for granted. I hear songs with new ears because they are in a state of wonder. My son played me “Paint it Black” the other day, I’m like yeah Rolling Stones so what? And then I see his face and that LOOK like he just discovered sunsets and he’s like yeah but listen to this part, listen to the guitar right here - and I hear a song anew. Like watching a puppy see a bird for the first time, and oh oh right yeah birds are fucking amazing, forgot about that.
#finally a comment that doesn’t have disdain for kids discovering old things #isn’t it cool that someone didn’t know Queen and they got to hear it for the first time? #isn’t it cool to witness that excitement?
I think this is largely why “react” channels on YouTube have become so popular. Watching someone experience something you love for the first time is exciting. Rediscovering that thing through their eyes is also exciting.
So much this. Could you imagine being able to turn back the clock and listen to some of your all-time favorite songs for the first time again? To feel those emotions it elicited? Imagine what "Yesterday" by The Beetles would make you feel if the first time you'd heard it was as an adult.
there is not one name on this list that isn’t a lifetime achievement of fucking
OK since this is going around, as it rightfully should, people are asking what's "conflicted" about this. Clearly I cut the the article off, since it stops midsentence, but the answer is he was forced to keep his sexuality a secret, struggled to "cure" himself of it, and married a woman and had two kids with her before he died of complications from AIDS in 1992.
i'm serious please stop asking what's "conflicted" about being a high profile gay actor in the 60s-80s, i am begging you
I am literally begging all of you to read anything about being gay before you were born, I am begging.
Omg rly ??

Okay so I just got off the phone with them. I talked to a trans girl named Aurora & she was super helpful! She gave me a few doctors to talk to & encouraged me to seek therapy instead of just rushing to get my pills. She literally found a trans friendly therapist in my town & I would definitely recommend giving them a call!
