Pucca lore in the shows and everything is such an utter mess that I've resorted to frankenstein-ing a consistent lore and timeline from all the Pucca media I can find. I also sometimes wanna just catalogue stuff.
Under the cut is my sources when it comes to info for my characterization and theories or whatever.
Never trust the wiki for character ages.

Santa’s Wife Name Confirmed???
This mini character bio is from the Pucca’s Funny World Adventure comic book series and it is, to my knowledge, the only example of Santa’s wife being given an actual name!
Obviously it’s meant as more of a parody than anything as Santa himself is cosplaying as Elvis throughout the comic but still… This is literally the first and only time I’ve actually seen a name ascribed to his wife
So do we all just agree to call her Madonna?
All other names for the bios are canonically accurate (alternative Korean translations) sooooo…?🤔

FUN FACT: before today’s land-dwelling, anatomically modern Pucca, the species first evolved, due to a process called carcinization, into its decapod crustacean form underwater! (pictured above^)
the Pucca Infraorder Brachyura (True Crab Pucca) are known for their broad, flattened carapace, shortened abdomen, their front chelipeds (legs bearing pincer-like claws) and the two distinctive cranial domes protruding from their skull (theorised to be used in display and to establish dominance/defend territory).
this textbook example of convergent evolution (nature repeatedly producing the exact same physical traits due to survival advantages) is widely credited as the main reason the Pucca species eventually colonised the coastal plains! starting at first as an endemic species found only in South Korea, it was not long before their evolution developed into a cosmopolitan distribution with Pucca dominating the world!

Abyo Bruceling Theory
So, Abyo doesn't have a mom. This could be explained as her simply not being present in his life, but I think it is a bit more complex than that. No, I think Bruce is part of a much larger Bruce species that reproduces asexually, producing a baby bruce, one which looks very similar to Abyo.
In the episode Tame that Toon from season 2, there are multiple Bruces, and it can only be assumed that since then, the species population has decreased significantly.
My theory is that Abyo is actually a young Bruce, and when he is an adult he will look just like Bruce as well. However, since Abyo is so dumb, it is unlikely he will continue the species, and they will all go extinct.

Guys, I’ve found and bought a dvd for the (mostly) lost Pucca Taiwanese Mandarin dub! This dvd apparently has all of season 1 and the seller said it’s in working condition! If the dvd arrives (as there’s always a chance it may not for whatever reason) and does work I’ll rip it and upload the episodes online so stay tuned!✨
Did I ever end up sharing the abyo bruceling theory...
I forgot to post this a little while ago but this is Garu’s father…
These pages are from volume 1 of the Martial Arts Chronicles comic book series released by VOOZ in approximately 2006
In this scene we meet Garu’s father (who is still nameless, unfortunately) as he has returned home from the martial arts tournament taking place in Sooga. He tells Garu that he “can’t go on” and wants him (Garu) to take his place and learn martial arts at the Shoalin Temple in order to restore their family honour.
He then just… dies.
Garu is seemingly upset for all of 2 minutes before solemnly vowing to uphold his father’s dying wish. We then hear Pucca offscreen as she is cheering him on and has left a bowl of noodles for him (because who needs genuine words of condolence after your father literally dies in your arms when you can instead receive the symbolic equivalent of “that sucks, bro” with a bowl of Jajangmyeon noodles, I guess😭).
Okay joking aside, like much of everything else to do with Pucca (post 2003), these comics were of course intended for a child audience and so that likely explains why the death scene is more… comedic as opposed to dark and upsetting.
It seems to me that Kim Bu-gyeong was aiming both to provide context for the tragic exposition that justifies Garu’s motivation (and, in turn, sets the stage for the rest of the story), while also intentionally framing the scene so that the heavier aspects of the death do not eclipse the overall narrative.
In any case I’m very happy to have found volumes 1&2 of this series as they are very difficult to get ahold of nowadays. I hope to find the rest over time but even just this much is already a great amount of early lore for Pucca (and Garu)!
This scene is also the only time Garu’s father actually looks like his own character instead of later depictions that used Garu as a stand-in. It’s not much, but its something so I’m happy regardless🙂↕️

This is an original press release kit sent to JETIX Europe in 2005! Inside it contains a collection of key details and visual assets centred around Pucca, in preparation for the (then upcoming) Tv animation released in 2006!
A key aspect of this kit has particularly struck my interest…
In one of the plot details listed above it specifies that Tobe is Garu’s enemy who, along with his ninja gang, aim to eliminate Garu and recover a magic potion…
What potion? This plot-line was not included in the show… So what exactly is the story around this? What was the significance of the potion? Why did Garu have it in his possession? What did the potion actually do and why was it worth eliminating Garu to retrieve?
We of course have no answers to these questions but I’d love to hear your theories!
