If you heard a tapping from your window and a scream for help, do you open it? The answer to hearing tapping on your window from someone screaming for help is not to open the window, lest invite them into your house in case they are a vampire looking for a quick meal. Ash, the human, with baseball bat in hand, finds a vampire named Jules groveling at their feet, begging for a place to stay and not even expecting a source of blood. Pitying the vampire, they make a deal he never expected: in exchange for a place to stay and a little bit of their blood, all Ash wants is someone to cook their food, watch TV with them, and simply be a companion. In fact, they aren’t interested (and even a little repulsed) by what other humans tend to ask for: Power, money, and sex. Luckily for Ash, their background as a phlebotomist lets them easily pull their own blood for Jules, but as time goes on and the pair learn more about each other, there is something that becomes more and more alluring about a vampire’s bite….

kind of considering commissioning an artist to do some ethereal, semi realistic art of my two oc’s (bust/torso up). it be just for me to fanboy over as i write draft 3 of my aroace QPR vampire novel. Human is nonbinary and Indian/latinx and vampire is basically vampire hozier+alucard. If you are or know an artist who could do this, I’d love to see some suggestions. I’d like to keep it under 100USD if possible. I’m a bit overwhelmed by the sheer amount of artists out there 😅

I forgot how lonely it is to write original fiction.

Where are the kudos? The subscriptions? The comments? The people cheerleading me chapter to chapter? Where are the kind words and compliments and reassurances that what I'm writing isn't complete crap? Where are the unhinged emojis? The asks on Tumblr? Where are my mutuals in my dms apologizing for not reading the latest chapter right away (side note, you know you don't have to apologize at all, right??). Where is the fanart? Where are the recs?

Where is my motivation to keep going?

It's something I've been thinking about a lot, actually, lately. How the experience of writing fanfic is so unique. How you already have an audience, willing and waiting and captive. And that's really it, isn't it? You have an audience. It's almost performative, writing fanfic. It's being on a stage, a one-person show (or two, if you do it with a friend); it's getting live reactions to your performance, it's feeding off the energy of the crowd and informing it back in a feedback loop; it's improvised, sometimes, in almost-real-time. It's building something that you couldn't have built by yourself. A thing that takes on a life of its own.

It's an experience you can't get writing original fiction, and, honestly, not having it is making it hard to write something original at all.

Having writing my original work, discord writing groups where I can share my work to get feedback and get people to really enjoy it and want to see me finish it has been helping a lot.

I would die tho if someone drew fanart of my main characters tho.

I think people have truly lost any ability to be patient with storytelling.

‘I don’t understand this’ They’ll explain it if you wait.

‘I don’t like how this episode left things hanging’ There’s a continuation next week.

‘This character is flat’ Wait for them to be fleshed out.

So many of the complaints I see about shows lately are people being confused by things THAT THE SHOW WANTS YOU TO BE CONFUSED BY THATS THE FUN OF MYSTERY AND FORESHADOWING YOU ABSOLUTE GOBLINS THE MAIN CHARACTER IS ALSO CONFUSED AND THEYRE GONNA DO A BIG REVEAL AND EXPLANATION LATER IF YOU WOULD JUST FUCKING WAIT
