I hate when people say to me “good luck finding a guy who doesn’t watch porn” bcs it’s really not that hard and maybe if we stopped acting like men are born into this world with an inherent need/desire to watch porn (news flash; they aren’t), it would get easier and easier to find men who don’t.

But what’s wrong with a man watching porn , if you get insecure over your man watching porn , you have deeper issues to deal with …

I love how your quick thought was that the reason I don’t want my man watching porn is bcs I’m insecure and not bcs the vast vast majority of porn is disgusting, abusive and completely bigoted, or that there are countless studies that show porn has an extremely negative effects on the way men view women and their sexual relationships… I think it shows that you have a lot of internalised misogyny you need to work on bcs not every woman’s opinions on men and relationships stems from being “insecure”, sometimes it stems from research and moral values. Women can form opinions on men and relationships that aren’t as a result of insecurity. Go figure!

How many women, especially young women, have been forced to pretend that they’re alright with their partner getting off to the sexualised abuse of women, by comments like that? How many women and girls have been told that they’re obviously jealous and immature if they don’t think it’s acceptable, that they clearly have insecurities about themselves if they are upset by it? It’s sickening that legitimate grievances are pathologised to the point where women can’t even express being uncomfortable with the abuse of other women on film, without being blamed for it. It’s such an insiduous attempt to fill women with so much shame that they don’t even want to think about porn at all, let alone question it, and it’s so horrible to see.

Jeremiah 18:3-4 Jeremiah noticed that the vessel became marred. Yet the potter didn’t throw away the clay. Instead, he took the flawed material and formed a different container. Sin always causes havoc in people’s lives, including Christians, but God doesn’t discard them. When they turn to Him for forgiveness, He can take them and mold them into vessels for His use. God is the God of a second chance. If you are in this condition, marred from the sin that’s been in your life, don’t despair. Look to God for forgiveness. He can remold your life so you can still serve Him as a vessel of His choosing.

I've noticed a pattern in myself of intentionally flirting with people for the thrill of it, and I don't really realize when I'm doing it but I hate that I'm using other people like that. Do you have any tips for emotional chastity and awareness?

Hi Anon,Thanks for messaging me! I know what you mean about flirting for the attention. Self awareness is half the battle when it comes to emotional chastity, but the other half isn't easy. My number one suggestion would be to take a very intentional dating and flirting fast. Make a promise to Jesus that you will use 3/6/12 months to focus on Him so He can teach you to have eyes that see others as people to be loved rather than objects to be used. Be strict with yourself about what you're removing from your life, but also find some devotion or prayer to add to your life in the mean time.My second suggestion is to stop and say a mental prayer whenever you catch yourself flirting for attention. Something simple like "Jesus, teach me to only seek attention and validation in you!" Repeating short little prayers like this really helps ingrain a healthier mindset!Let me know if I can help answer any more questions!Leah
