Okay okay okay I KNOW I SAID no more chibiverse posting BUT I got a very good question from a student via email today— they asked me what makes a storyboard "clean" sooo I thought I'd show you some examples I showed them of my roughs vs cleans!!
I mentioned this in a recent ask, but storyboards are all about being clear and readable. So you can see in my roughs (and they're pretty damn rough) what I wanna get across (the staging, perspective, acting) are pretty much already there. In one of the first storyboarding books I ever read, Prepare to Board by Nancy Beiman, the author tells you that detail should never overpower character. That's always stuck with me, so that's what I strive for in my boards. Don't fuss so much about it being "clean"!!!!
Boards aren't meant to be pretty!! They aren't illustrations!!!!!!!! Even my "cleans" are still pretty rough. I usually just add a little bit more to indicate who the character is and their acting (hands are important and so are expressions) and little touch ups like grid lines to further indicate perspective or bg elements. So, yeah! I just thought it'd be fun to share with you what I shared with them! :)
