'thats not a solution' actually it is a solution to the problem of the evils of prisons. solving the other problems (structural inequality, poverty, prejudice/bigotry, resource access, coercive control, etc.) that enable and perpetuate violence and finding solutions for people who are not willing to be rehabilitated is a different problem with many complex solutions that will need to be pursued over many lifetimes. prisons have not solved any of those problems (or violence itself) and in fact are part and parcel to those problems and many others so i think we can dismantle those in the interim.

i'm still a leftist but in my experience women are viewed as expendable in leftist spaces, spoken over, treated as stupid, on a level that is astounding. you can get away with an enormous level of vitriolic hatred for women if you couch it in the right terms

i think people are starting to confuse class analysis with bioessentialism. like... no not all men do this, but Men as a constructed social class do do this. that's still okay to say. that is regular material analysis of the world around us.

assorted times that shane fixes ilya's necklace for him:

the first time is at the cottage, drinking coffee in the morning. shane notices that the clasp of ilya's necklace is hanging down by the pendant and offers to fix it for him. they both pretend that it isn't significant but ilya is very touched.

ilya decides he wants his necklace visible as they're taking photos for the irina foundation website, so shane makes sure it's centered on ilya's chest.

when ilya goes to leave after visiting shane in montreal during their boston year. shane stops ilya at the door under the pretense of adjusting his necklace and goes in for one more kiss.

during the first year shane is on the centaurs, ilya takes a hit that looked more serious than it actually was. in the locker room, shane doesn't want to admit how scared he was, so he distracts himself by moving ilya's necklace for him, which now also has ilya's wedding ring.

when they're going to a cens team party, shane stops ilya as they're leaving their house. "wait just a second. there, baby. you're perfect."

shane untangles ilya's necklace from his own hair after sleeping on ilya's chest one night.

ilya starts kissing shane's wedding ring on his chain as a pregame ritual during playoffs, and makes shane kiss his in return ("kiss the ring, hollander. it's bad luck if you don't." / "you decided that just now, but fine."). shane tucks ilya's chain back under his gear before heading onto the ice to try to win their first cup together.
