What if Sirius Black had a daughter, or meet Ara Amaris Black
No one will ever see it, probably, but it’s 5 a.m. somewhere, and I’m fandom crazy 🤷🏼♀️
One of the ideas for OC I had recently and it just stuck with me is Sirius Black having a kid, specifically a daughter. And I don’t mean back in the 70s, which also would be cool, sure; I mean in the 90s.
In pretty much canon-compliant 1995, Sirius Black is agitated and restless, being stuck in the Grimmauld Place for months and is in desperate need of some fun. He sneaks out one day and goes to muggle London, so that he doesn’t attract much attention. There, in a bar, he meets beautiful foreign woman and they spend a night together, talking, drinking and enjoying each other company.
Little does he know that this stunning woman is no muggle. Little does she know that that handsome and charismatic man is no funny no-maj. After finding out she was pregnant, she tried to track Sirius down, but it was seemingly impossible. She decides to raise a child on her own. And only much later into her pregnancy, she reads in Daily Prophet about Sirius Black and his tragic demise. She learns everything there were to learn about his life, death and family, and finds out that he was actually innocent (Sirius had been cleared of all charges posthumously thanks to Dumbledore).
On 30th of July 1996, on the night of the full moon, Ara Amaris Black is born. She is named Ara to keep up with the constellations theme (after reading all there were about Blacks, her mother kinda figured out it was the big deal; plus she remembered Sirius joking about it that one and only night), and Amaris, which is Spanish name meaning ‘Child of the moon’.
Ara’s mother has left the country to protect her from the war and keep her safe. However, after the defeat of Voldemort, she decides to come back to England. She always liked it there, and she believed that Ara had a right to know her cultural heritage, even the darker one, being the daughter of House of Black.
Mother of Ara reaches out to Andromeda, and tells her the truth about who’s Ara’s father. They bond and eventually become family; Teddy and Ara were raised side by side, as cousins. Harry was so heartbroken to learn that Sirius had got a daughter of whose existence he never got a chance to learn, that he basically became a godfather to Ara the same way he was to Teddy (they were spoiled to no end, and grew up on the stories about great Marauders - Andromeda had quite a few of those to contribute). Teddy and Ara are close, but have their constant bickering relationship going for them. Ara, being 2 years older than Teddy, was every bit ‘responsible and condescending older sister’, and it got Teddy really annoyed all the time.
She went to Hogwarts (2007-2014) and was sorted into Slytherin, and also had been a prefect from 5th year forward (Andromeda was very proud, and also hysterical imagining a fit Sirius would have had thrown about these two little facts). Ara believes in magical tradition and culture, and every bit a true daughter and heir of house of Black: without bigotry and all the nonsense, of course; she was taught what it’s means to be a Black by Andromeda, after all. She is fiercely loyal to her family, stands by her beliefs and morals (even if those are not so straight line). Ara will not put up with any bullsh*t from anyone in general. She’s also wickedly smart and cunning (and witty as well), a true Slytherin and she will give you hell if you got a problem with that. Sees Headmistress McGonagall as one of the role models, because “Truly, to deal with all those ignorant men with their greater goods and evils, while simultaneously making sure school is still standing and kids are still learning…She is the queen, Teddy, and I will fight you on that, you little badger!”.
She also has some control issues, as in it’s hard sometimes to control her accidental magic, even in school years. Andromeda likes to say that it is her restless Black blood acting up. Because of that, she tries to keep calm in every situation and may come off as cold. But she does have a fun and soft fuzzy side, that usually comes out with friends and family.
I really like this idea for Sirius Black’s daughter, because it is tragic to a degree, while also being wholesome to a fault. I see a lot of possible plot ideas and hurt/comfort scenarios, and also a lot of ways to interconnect/draw parallels between Marauders era and the next generation (aka my two most favorite things)
To conclude:
No one will ever see it, probably, but if YOU did, and have read it all trough, then it must be either 5 a.m. at yours or you’re fandom crazy ❤️🔥. In any case, thank you for reading this and kudos for being fandom enthusiast, I love you just for that already. Share your ideas and opinions, and please let me know if I’m not the only one who thinks this is quite interesting concept.
Also, please share it with anyone who you’d think could make this idea come to life, and I’m always open to help (I do not have a patience to write a whole story by myself, but I work great in tandem. Or I can just drown you in ideas and headcanons for this OC I just dreamt up 🔮)

So, I stumbled across character maker, and I did a thing. Low and behold, an
Alternative vision of Ara Amaris Black (created in djarn’s character maker):
I’d like to think she would be a vision of Sirius. Not necessarily in her looks, but in everything else - the mannerisms, the snark, the rebellion, the fight; the hair, the style, the accessories.
I can imagine fifteen year old Ara finding an old chest with Sirius’ clothes and jewelry from his school years at the attic of Grimmauld Place. Liking almost everything she found there (except for the red-and-gold scarf - she never much liked the colour) and incorporating it immediately in her wardrobe. Seeing it as a way to connect with her farther - the man she never knew and would never get a chance - through clothes and sense of style. Altering flannels to fit, transfiguring necklaces in earrings and a bracelet into pendant; going lengths to adjust the pair of glasses she found in there to suit her eyesight,...
(She didn’t even knew Sirius Black wore glasses. “He didn’t, of course,” was the the response of Aunt Andromeda when asked. “These glasses used to belong to Fleamont Potter. I think Sirius nicked them one summer to prank Fleamont. Never got around to giving them back, I assume,” Andromeda shrugged. ”And after Potters passed away, James insisted Sirius kept them; he said Fleamont had been as much a father to Sirius as to him. Sirius always had them close, but never wore them himself.”
After hearing the story, Ara offered for Harry to have them. “This is a Potter heirloom. They were your grandfather’s, after all!”, but Harry only smiled and declined the offer. “Sirius was a Potter in every way that mattered. And you, Ara, is his daughter and my niece - I'd say this Potter heirloom is safe and sound in your hands.”)
Finding an old and worn black leather jacket at the bottom of the chest. Immediately recognizing it from the school years Marauders pictures - it seemed Sirius had been wearing it on every photo no matter the circumstances. Wanting nothing more, but never finding the strength to put it on. Cleaning it and putting it in her closet, instead, and always having it close.
