The Gender Census 2020 is now open!

The seventh annual international gender census, collecting information about the language we use to refer to ourselves and each other, is now open until 12th March 2020.

After the survey is closed I’ll process the results and publish a spreadsheet of the data and a blog post summarising the main findings. Then anyone can use them for academic or business purposes, self-advocacy, tracking the popularity of language over time, and just feeling like we’re part of a huge and diverse community.

If you think you might have friends and followers who’d be interested, please do reblog this blog post, retweet this tweet, boost this Mastodon post, check out this post on Reddit, and share the survey URL by email or at AFK social groups or on other social networks like Facebook. Every share is extremely helpful - it’s what helped us get 11,000 responses last year.

Do you have any info on how to start HRT in Germany? Iirc you need a qualified psychiatrist but I've been kinda stuck on the whole process, a short rundown on what to do in what order would be very helpful, thank you.

Hi,I really recommend joining a group on facebook. It’s called Transgender Germany - TGG. They have a map of specialists and will be able to answer you in detail about everything. However, if you’re unable to join it, I can post the question for you and let you know the answers - in that case, please contact me directly :)- Mod Adam

The general way to go is contacting a psychiatrist (because iirc only they are allowed to prescribe medicine) and asking for an appointment where you can get the “Indikationsschreiben”. Bringing a timetable of your journey as a trans person (or sending it in before the actual appointment) is not required but always welcome, at least with the doc I went to to get my indication for HRT.

If you got this letter, the next step is seeing an endocrinologist (it’s optimal if they already have some experience with trans people, but I’m sure that’s obvious^^) where your hormones get checked. Don’t forget to bring your indication letter!

Then you should already get the prescription and if everything is in order, you can head right to the apothecary :)

If you are 18 or older, you also (obviously) don’t need to inform your parents about this. I don’t know though how it is with minors who aren’t supported by their parents or caretakers.

Sometimes you meet someone, and it’s so clear so immediately that the two of you, on some level, belong together. As lovers, or as friends, or as family, or as something entirely different. You just work, whether you’re in love or creating things together or foxhole buddies or partners in crime. It’s so clear, right off the bat, that this is what you’re supposed to be doing, that this is what you’re for. You meet these people throughout your life, out of nowhere, under the strangest of circumstances, and they help you make a life. I don’t know if that makes me believe in coincidence, or fate, or sheer blind luck, but. It definitely makes me believe in something.

I did some googling. Apparently Starbucks has more caffeine in their coffee than most places. So a grande drip coffee there is 330 mg of caffeine, instead of 180-230 or whatever.

The articles that I saw mentioning this all cited 400 as the safe daily amount of caffeine, although none of them said why.

The espresso has more too, 89mg instead of 67.

So this drink has 623 mg of caffeine.

Technically, you’d also be going all Blurrily Accelerating Lesbian Skeleton if you had two grande drip coffees there.

But where’s the fun in that?

Sometimes I think about the future of self driving cars and how everyone I talk to about that future is like “okay but in an emergency we’ll be able to take back manual control, right?” and I usually placate them by saying, yeah, that’s totally how it’ll happen, but actually we’re already seeing the opposite. Cars with “self driving” features like steering and breaking that kick in and take control from the driver if the driver is about to rear end someone or is in a dangerous situation because the truth is computers can think faster and have better reflexes than us and I think about this going into the future and how if the self-driving cars are able to share their data with each other and learn from the driving experiences of every car on the road soon we’ll have cars that are so massively experienced at driving and avoiding accidents and making microsecond decisions and partial degree turns of the wheels and being so damn precise that automobile accidents will be almost unheard of and that’s when we’ll develop the most wasteful hilarious extreme sport in history where a single human driver will go up against an arena of ultra smart self driving cars and just by driving around recklessly try to coral them into crashing into each other and I tell you I would watch that sport all day.
