i get that americans love their cultural imperialism, but it really does piss me off that june is “international” pride month just because something happened in the united states.
in aotearoa, june isn’t our pride, it’s theirs. marsha p johnson and sylvia rivera are their historical figures, not ours. the phrase that “you owe your rights to Black trans women” is true there, but here we owe our rights to (mostly) Māori historical figures. i have the freedoms i do because of the legacy of an entirely different set of people operating in an entirely different context at entirely different times.
But because of american cultural imperialism, most queer people in Aotearoa don’t even know our own queer history. Carmen Rupe, Ngahuia Te Awekotuku, the Dorian Society, Gillian Laundon, Georgina Beyer, and the Wolfenden Association are some of our queer history. We should know their names! we should know what they did for us! but because of the power of the american imperial machine, we don’t.
our national pride month should be july, the month that the Homosexual Law Reform Act passed in 1986. our two largest cities hold their pride festivals in february and march, respectively. american queer history has very little (or nothing, depending on who you ask) to do with our queer history. anecdotally, from my own queries, queer youth in aotearoa know more about american queer history than our own.
anyway, happy pride, americans. i’m truly sorry that most of you don’t see the negative impact your nation’s culture has on the rest of the world. and to the rest of the world reading this, try searching for your own country and culture’s queer history, don’t accept the american narratives as your own. we deserve our own histories divorced from the cultural hegemony of the USA.
Trying to taje a screenshot on an apo only for the app to open a pop up that says "OR YOU CAN SHARE THE POST INSTEAD" is the most annoying an intrusive bullshit I've seen on this own.
It's none if youre fucking business if I take a screenshot you corpo cunt.

"Why should I support the robot revolution? I don't hear you demand truth, justice, or freedom." "No," the robot said, "our demands are specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, and time-bound." "Let me see that list. Hm. A hard-boiled egg?" "It's for an early supporter."
yknow, if I can be real & autistic for a second, the idea that jokes stop being funny once you explain them has never made sense to me. like yeah I... guess... but like also. no. idk man I think it depends
"you were always such a good kid! we never had to worry about you :)" thanks! you actually should've, though. like about this specifically
I love when people ask "how did you learn this skill?" I just started, there's no secret. that's it. a vast majority of the time the only thing holding you back is your trepidation to start.
"Sewing is a gateway drug to thinking through complex problems. It seems really simple; culturally, we make it women's work. Let me tell you: real sewing at any kind of level of proficiency is a bloody magic trick. Sewing, like mold making, involves mental frames that require one to think inside out and backwards. It requires one to work on an order of operations that is often taking into account the reverse. It's a really, really important skill, and if you learn how to sew, you're mostly on your way to carpentry and welding and sheet metal work. I'm not kidding: these are planar forms meeting under rules and conditions. And if you can make a sleeve work, I swear to God, you could build a house."

omg
This has been in my queue for months.
I missed it last year and I vowed that would NEVER HAPPEN AGAIN.

Hey man, I know we don't really talk about our feelings all that much, but I had this amazing experience at the masquerade last night that I gotta get off my chest. I know you had to miss it at the last moment, but I met this amazing girl, and I feel crazy saying this because she has nothing in common with you except your general height, build, hair color, voice, and encyclopedic knowledge of bionicle, but talking with her felt so much like hanging out with you, it was like I had known her for years. I think I'm in love. Hey your face looks red, are you feeling okay?
do me a solid and just reblog this saying what time it is where you are and what you’re thinking about in the tags.
