I saw everyone on twitter tearing Emma Watson apart for saying sheāsĀ self - partneredĀ instead of single and decided to watch her interview for British Vogue to know what the hell was she trying to say with that. I was very surprised to find a 30 minute video in which amongst other things she talks about the following:
She felt undeserving when she was appointed as UN Women goodwill ambassador and sought out Gloria Steinem to learn about feminist activism.
She thinks the criticism she received for being a white feminist was useful because it made her educate herself.
She says thereās a desperate need to reform the education system in the UK to change the way they are taught the history of how Britain has been involved in foreign affairs and how they profited from slavery.
She felt anxious about approaching 30 because thereās a lot of pressure to have a husband and a baby by then and sheās still figuring her life out.
She was so young when she was casted in Harry Potter that she doesnāt remember much of her life before it and she went to therapy to deal with her issues with fame. She used to feel very guilty for being unhappy because she thought she should enjoy fame more.
The interviewer is a transgender woman and they discuss transgender issues for a while. Emma is in regular contact with a trans child which makes the topic of trans rights emotional for her because sheās very anxious for this kidās safety.
She talks about her role as Meg March in the new Little Women movie and defends that unlike what many people say choosing to be a wife and a mother doesnāt make Meg a less feminist character and quotes a line from the movie, āJust because my dreams are different than yours it doesnāt mean they are unimportant.ā Ā
She wishes more people would realize sheās not Hermione Granger but also understands why they want to see that in her because Hermione is a symbol for her too.
She used to think she could never be happy without a partner and now that she has learnt to navigate that better and is genuinely happy single sheās started to think of herself as self - partnered in contrast to the time when she thought of herself as single = lonely.
Every media outlet decided to focus in an out of context quote from the three minutes she talked about her dating life when the actual interview had a lot of depth and way more important things were discussed. Iām sad and angry but not surprised.
Boomer is like white. It refers to a background of relative privilege and a refusal to change with the times or recognise the struggle of anyone else. In this context, it is not a direct synonym for age with no qualifiers. It has the connotation of coming from a certain perspective. Boomer is not ageist in the same way that White Peopleā¢ļø is not racist.
Itās also more of Gen Z thing than a millennial thing. Gen Z coined the phrase, but we millennials have been the target of nothing but criticism from the very people who made things bad for us and weāre sick of being polite to people who give us nothing but shit and disrespect back, so we support Gen Z, and I think I speak for a large portion of millennials when I say Ok, Boomer.
#the most iconic moment in mtv history
no offense but two characters running from the authorities and then one of them pulls the other in a dark, small alley to shake them off and theyāre both breathing hard and thereās not much space there and theyāre looking at each other while trying to hold back chuckles and one of them brings their finger to their lips playfully in a āshhhā motion while smirking and oh no now theyāre looking at one anotherās lips and one of them whispers āi think the coast is clear now. we could leave.ā and the other says āyeah. we could.ā but theyāre still looking at the other personās lips and neither make a move to go and they can feel each otherās breath against their skin and. y eah

dudes who accuse films like captain marvel of teaching young girls to hate men have no idea that literally no one and nothing is more effective at making girls hate men than men
this is now my most popular post and i havenāt so far seen a single dumbass attempted rebuttal so iām feeling pretty good about it tbh
the knowing eye contact women make when men are talking is the purest human connection possible
What the fuck does that even mean?
30 thousand women seem to get it

one of my favorite (read: least favorite) things about how people treat cleopatra is sheās so often called a slut or is only ever portrayed as being this incredibly sexy, often scantily-clad seductress, when in actuality 1. while some ancient sources describe her as somewhat pretty, it generally seems that what was attractive about her was her intellect, charm, and voice, and the sources that refer to her as extremely sexy/slutty are specifically out to condem her, 2. she was a brilliant politician who chose her affairs as a way of securing power for her country and not just so she could have a bunch of sex (which shouldnāt be an issue anyway), and 3. one of the men she had an affair with was mark antony, ancient roman super slut supreme, a man known for his love of sex and tendency to wear extremely short tunics for the sake of showing off his sexy legs/probably also his dick
iām not saying thereās anything wrong with portraying cleopatra as beautiful or even sexy, because she clearly had allure. all iām saying is that, if your cleopatra is wearing less clothing than your mark antony, thereās probably a problem in your depiction of them
iāve cracked the code,
Miss Nora Kerin, edwardian stage actress. 1907
She looks like she hunts ghosts and I respect and admire that about her
