Mustelidae family in a nutshell
The choice to include the European and not the American badger makes me chuckle.
From left to right: meat eater, meat eater, meat eater, meat eater, meat eater, Worm slurper, meat eater.
women deserve to be ugly. and by that i mean they should be allowed to have conventionally "unattractive" features and not be treated as lesser for it. women should be allowed to be fat and lanky and tall and short and have scars and physical differences and stretch marks and cellulite and acne and wrinkles and hair on their faces and arms and legs and armpits and maybe even be a little stinky and gross sometimes. and this should be normal
STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION | 2.10
Star Trek: The Next Generation - Season 2 Episode 10 "The Dauphin"
Every time I express that I think it's shitty to say that genAI "hallucinates," people get weirdly pissy and combative with me.
But until real human beings who experience hallucinations are treated like human beings worthy of respect and dignity...I think perhaps it's shitty to keep associating hallucinations with being non-human, dangerous, and a liar.
It actually really fucking sucks that hallucinating is seen as monster-movie-scary, dangerous, inhuman, and worthy of scorn and/or mockery. It actually really fucking sucks that people who hallucinate or experience delusions can't get compassionate help or understanding, because everyone thinks it's an automatic sign of being dangerous, violent, and a liar. It's a massive problem that people look at hallucinations as "dangerous crazy person shit" that should be gotten rid of or locked away.
I find it crass, at best, to flippantly use the term "AI hallucinations" when real-life people get abused, imprisoned, and killed because they experience hallucinations.
But what do I know, I'm just a crazy person. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
People in the notes keep proposing alternatives or asking me what they should say instead, and I really think y'all are overthinking it. You don't need to coin an entire new term. You can just say "AI generates misinformation." If you need it as a noun, "AI misinformation."
If you want to be provocative, "AI spits out garbled bullshit" works, too.
Fully agree, as someone who experiences mild hallucinations. Also it is simply bad terminology, bordering on propaganda, because it is used to position these 'errors' as unexpected phenomena that can eventually be worked out. As opposed to what it actually is, an inescapable fact about the way large language models work.
LLMs generate text to sound plausible without any regard to whether it is true. That's literally it.
Sometimes ur fat bc u were born that way. Ur parents are fat, ur cousins are fat, u always have been fat.
And sometimes, you become fat. Something happened (puberty, change in diet, change in ability, anything) and someone who was once skinny is now fat. This doesnt make you a failure. It just means ur fat now. Its okay. You didnt do something wrong.
No matter how you are fat, its okay to be fat
That anything also includes trauma and stressors.
Day 202/365 of listing something good I saw today:
A small kid at the gocery store was clearly sick of being in the stroller and also Fucking Done with being in the grocery store, and was about to throw a fit at the cashier line before spotting me. One of the small perks of having multiple facial piercings and wearing a funky hat is that every once in a while small children will stop whatever they were doing and stare at you like the man-made horror beyond their comprehension that you righteously are.
So taking the opportunity to turn the situation around, I smiled to the kid, who smiled back, and started waving to me, so I had to wave back. The parents, not saying a word, just smiled as well, evidently also glad that this situation turned into "kid saw a funny-looking stranger and is quietly having fun" kind, instead of the "kid is shrieking because fuck being in the grocery store, ensuing that everyone is having a bad time" kind of situation.
Sometimes all you gotta do is to be a friendly freak in the grocery store.

the idea that restrooms, locker rooms, etc need to be single-sex spaces in order for women to be safe is patriarchy's way of signalling to men & boys that society doesn't expect them to behave themselves around women. it is directly antifeminist. it would be antifeminist even if trans people did not exist. a feminist society would demand that women should be safe in all spaces even when there are men there.
btw this is maybe the single most key distinguishing feature of the terfy strains of radical feminism, the seed all the rest of it springs out of: they have absolutely no faith in the ability of feminism to actually destroy patriarchy. they do not think feminism can truly build a better world. they cannot really even imagine that possibility. they think patriarchy is an inevitable natural consequence of unchangeable biological facts, and therefore the goal of feminism can only be to mitigate the worst effects of patriarchy, not to get rid of it.
they can imagine a society where women get some designated safe spaces without men around. they cannot imagine a society where the presence of men is not inherently a danger to women.
"And I know you know all of this and it's okay if you come and cry about Nick all day. But I'm terrified all the time and I just really need my best friends with me to march at pride, okay?"

huge fan of trans people and what they've done to gender
A while back my pharmacist saw my deadname on my profile and accidentially called it out, he corrected and deleted my deadname from the system so only my preferred name shows up now. There was a crowd of people behind me, so as he hands over the pills he apologized, in equal tone and volume as when he called my deadname and lied saying it's been a long day and he didn't mean to call out -his own- name. I quietly told him it was fine and he didn't need to do that for my sake.
His response: "No, it's my name now."
I went to the pharmacist yesterday, his nametag is my deadname. He informed me he's immigrating and in the process he's changed his first name to my deadname to have an English sounding name. That's why he's now able to get a reprint of his nametag to be my deadname. And repeated, with the intense seriousness of someone who is going to die on this hill: "It's mine now. Not yours. I'm taking." His tone indicated that decision is final.
Bro literally deadnamed me once, and has committed to flat out stealing my deadname. It's his now. Legally. Officially. I over heard his co-workers call him by the name.
Does anyone know what to do about the temperature and also the prices
