Most of these are smutty because that's what I love.
I hope the list helps you figure what books you may want to read. Many of these authors include warnings for their books, like potential triggers, squicks, and kinks. I really appreciate this due to my own history and experiences. If you have anything you feel should be added, reblog with the list and some details like what I have listed here. Oh, and mention if the books are available in just one place.
I use a Kobo ereader because I can no longer hold books open due to hand and wrist issues. Things strictly available on Amazon cannot be read on a Kobo due to coding and licenses, and a program I was recommend no longer works to change this. Do not return the ebooks if you do not like them. People had been doing this on Amazon, treating it like a library you pay for. Amazon does not refund you. They take the money from the writers, who receive maybe $2 for a $15 novel. They lose a lot of money. Just use your local or online library for free books instead.
Kobo offers a lot of free books, btw. Often the first book of a series is free, getting you hooked onto the series. They also have sales with as much as 90% off the usual price. These features are how I have found soooo many of the books I love.
Ann Aguirre, small note: several characters are Disabled. It made me feel seen, especially since there was no "magically cured" bullshit.
Ars Numina series - contemporary fantasy with shapeshifters. The shifters come in bear, wolf, and big cat.
Fix-It Witches series - contemporary fantasy featuring witches and magic
The Only Purple House in Town - takes place after Fix-It Witches
Gothic Fairytales series - fantasy, not quite historical, a fresh take for fairytales
I Think I'm in Love with an Alien - contemporary with a touch of scifi if you think having one alien in a present-day setting is scifi
Galactic Love series - slightly contemporary because a present-day human is abducted by an alien, but mostly scifi. Proper aliens too, not humanoid with human genitals, but alien with alien genitals.
Adriana Anders
Daddy Crush - a gradual daddy-dom featuring a girl who was raised in a super conservative christian community. She left because it wasn't working out for her, and eventually bought a place. Her neighbor is 17 years older, hot af, and they flirt for months. No insta-love. It's a short book, but written in such a way it doesn't feel rushed. I loved it. Roleplay, daddy dom, power play, and details I love to read.
Maya Banks, small note: I don't like most of what she writes, but this is one I do like
The Highlanders series - historical fantasy
Lexi Blake
A Faery Story series - scifi, fantasy, and contemporary. It has dimension travel. One world has magic, another has vampires, one has shapeshifters, and then there's present-day Earth.
Joy Demorra aka @thebibliosphere
Hunger Pangs - contemporary fantasy romcom with a werewolf, vampire, witch, and magic Comes in smutty and fluffy versions.
Lana Ferguson, small note: all her books are standalone but they do connect with little Easter eggs here and there
The Nanny - contemporary, a little rom-com
Under Loch and Key - contemporary fantasy featuring shapeshifters and a little magic
The Fake Mate - contemporary fantasy Omegaverse with shapeshifting
The Mating Game - contemporary fantasy Omegaverse with shapeshifting
Angie Fox
The Transylvania MASH trilogy - take the M*A*S*H TV show, set it in a different dimension, with gods at war with each other, add different creatures from mythology, lore, and fantasy, frost it with magic, and sprinkle some comedy over it
Ali Hazelwood
Bride - werewolves and vampires, mystery, romance, fantasy setting mixed with modern society, and the best version of a werewolf and vampire romance I have ever read. Slow burn, and being told from one perspective resulted in tension pulled tight as a cello string. Delicious!
Mate - sequel to bride, and with Omegaverse dynamics. Slow burn and delicious! If Omegaverse is something you enjoy, you'll really like this one. You do need to read Bride though, or you're gonna have some serious confusion.
Elsa Jade
Intergalactic Dating Agency; Big Sky Alien Mail Order Brides series - contemporary Earth with an alien dating agency secretly set up here to help aliens find their future wife
Eve Langlaise
Kodiak Point series - contemporarh fantasy with shapeshifters in a modern day setting. I enjoyed books 1-6, but after that feels rushed, and the other various series she has written also feel very rushed.
Lillian Lark
Monstrous Matches series - these can be read as standalones. Fantasy meets contemporary, with creatures from mythology, lore, and fantasy, with witches and magic. All but three are strictly found on Amazon. I use Kobo ereader, which doesn't read Kindle books. I haven't been able to read any but the first three.
Christina Lauren
The Paradise Problem - contemporary romance with a touch of comedy, fake marriage/fake relationship. First contemporary romance I have read, and I absolutely loved it.
Chloe Liese, small note: I cried the first time I read her books because of how well she incorporates the various characters' disabilities. No magical cure, no treating them like they're fragile, addressed the disabilities in a realistic way, and kept them as part of them and things to be hidden. I'm Disabled and felt very seen when I read these. Yes, I sent her a thank you letter.
The Wilmot Sisters series - contemporary romance featuring characters with different disabilities, which I very much appreciated.
The Bergman Brothers series - contemporary romance with a little bit of comedy, and characters with different disabilities. Again, something I appreciate seeing as we are often not in romance novels as the romantic interest.
Shea Malloy
Men of Omaron - women from present-day Earth mixed with scifi via aliens and space travel.
Lyonne Riley, small note: I have 22 of her books and craving more. Monsterfucking is her specialty.
One Night with the Werewolf: A Risky Romance - contemporary fantasy setting featuring a werewolf and big age difference.
The Orc's Rage - fantasy and magic, featuring size differences
Trollkin Lovers series - orcs, ogres, trolls, fantasy and magic, and size differences
Stories from New Eden series - fantasy in a sort-of present-day setting, by which I mean orcs being software engineers, minotaurs working in construction, etc. Imagine a world where humans are the minority and live in a small walled off town for their own protection and go through a dating agency to find a potential spouse who isn't human.
DreamTogether Breeding Program series - contemporary fantasy, a wolfman (not werewolf), a dragon, and minotaur what babies by human women. Each is its own story with different women.
Five Gifts for the Blacksmith's Wife - fantasy with a little magic, an orc, and a human.
Seduced by the Werewolves - contemporary fantasy, reverse harem, five werewolves and one human woman
Prince of Beasts - fantasy, a bit of a slow burn
Karen Marie Moning
Highlander series - fantasy, historical romance, magic, and contemporary all rolled into one. I love this series except for book seven. That one has a major squick/trigger, coercion, and it was years of therapy that prevented my PTSD from rearing it's ugly head. I read the book because it ties in with the others.
Kathryn Moon, small note: first monsterfucking books I have ever read and have been hooked on it ever since.
Monster Smash Agency - imagine an agency you apply to for a sexual experience with creatures of mythology, fantasy, and lore. Go through an interview with a succubus to go iver what it is you want, be it dom/sub, humiliation, praise, size differences, whatever fetish you may have. Set it up with proper BDSM with safe words, aftercare, the works. This woman did her damn research and it fucking shows. I could kiss her for it. Yes, I have sent a fan letter.
Good Deeds - scifi with sex pollen, cyborgs, reverse harem, and a sex agency.
Marian Pattechat
Amid the Clouds - book one of a series. I don't recommend this book unless insta-love is something you enjoy. This takes place over the course of three days. Complete strangers and suddenly lovers. It's a gargoyle and human, post-apocalyptic with aliens, zombies, vampires, pixies, and elves showing up in modern-day Earth. The story feel flat IMHO.
Eric and Natalie Severine
Lily Quinn series - 15 books of contemporary fantasy monsterfucking, a mercenary who is half succubus, and packed with creatures from mythology, lore, and fantasy. Sooooo much very explicit smut. Do not make the mistake I did of reading this in public if you also have hyperphantasia. OMG...
Nalini Singh
Psy-Changling series - I have books 1-5 and there are soooo many more. Shape-shifting meets a scifi setting. These are so good and have none of the insta-love nonsense I loathe.
Pearl Tate
The Quasar Lineage series - barely contemporary, very scifi. Normally, fated mates stuff and instant-lust to love is a squick for me. This is written in such a way that it doesn't make me nope outta there. I didn't read the entire series though, because it became sex every other chapter because apparently their groins are too powerful to ignore, and it felt rushed. It reads like this is their first time writing smut and have to get in as many terrible details as they can.
Cara Wylde
Chicken Soup Gone to Hell - imagine accidentally summoning a demon using a recipe from a cooking book, completely unaware the recipes are spells. Contemporary fantasy with accidental magic and rom-com.

HONYE I LOVE THIS SO MUCH???? GOD THIS HAS SUCH POWERFUL VIBES LIKE THE POWER COUPLE JUST JUMPS OUT AT U!!!!! I LOVE IT!!!
still not sure how his hair works lmao. should they be individual snakes per braid, or do multiple snake heads taper out from the braid? should multiple snakes be bound in each braid (that’s sorta restrictive tho)? can he just will his hair to become snakes? idk
