cowboys be like "nah that feller is just a companion to keep the trail a bit less lonely & a lot less dangerous" & then ride funny in the saddle the next 2 days
I have this headcanon that sometimes steven accidentally uses gem phrases in casual conversation which is INCREDIBLY awkward considering he’s literally just some guy now. Like he never even says those things around the gems they’re just subconsciously drilled into his vocabulary. he uses “oh my stars” sometimes which is a little embarrassing but overall not that weird. But i think he’s slipped up and called someone a gem insult at LEAST twice
Fun fact: the guys at our college’s geology department prop out the doors with their samples. I totally understand why but as someone whose work with samples is necessarily super delicate and sterile it fucks me up so bad
lol idk if you watch nautilus live at all but watching them process bio & geo samples side by side evokes exactly this Thing (the descriptions are gold too… “here are the 30 steps we use to preserve bio samples, and as for rocks, well, we let them dry, bag them, & put them in the Rock Box)
Good to know there’s enough Biologist Salt™ to go around
Paleontologists occupy a weird and highly uncomfortable slice of this Venn Diagram
in my own experience with geology most precautions with samples are to preserve the life and safety of the geologist, most of the rocks are fine.
i am continually reminded of one of my colleagues, who wanted to collect a sample of gypsum on a field excursion but was too lazy to take off his backpack and get his rock hammer. so he said “eh, it’s soft enough” just fucking punched the rock until a piece fell off like it was fucking minecraft
Guillermo Del Toro is the only director who would shoot Gepetto making Pinocchio as if it were Dr. Frankenstein creating the monster.
And then shoot Dr. Frankenstein creating the monster as if it were Gepetto making Pinocchio.
Even more devastating, the scene where pinocchio was made was very violent in looks and almost angry but gepetto grew to love his creation like a son but the scene of making the creature was loving and attentive but victor grew to hate his creation .
@unfried-mouth-wheat
It.... actually makes a sort of sense if you think about it?
Gepetto is kind of forceful and disorderly, but he is PASSIONATE. He is using his whole body to carve up the wood, he isn't going for precision or perfection, he wants a son and he is going to get a son, he doesn't care if the end result doesn't look like what he had in mind. He probably doesn't have any specific appearence in mind other than a son. So when Pinocchio comes out, he has a son! What more to do than accept the son his love created?
But with Victor Frankenstein? There is precision and intent in every move, and with it, expectation. He has a clear plan in his mind for what he wants, and that is the Perfect Human. Much like a helicopter parent raising a child, they are filled with lofty ideas about the future, only to be filled in the end with bitterness and resentment once the child doesn't turn out to be who they wanted. The lighting and music seem to carry forward that feeling of great hope and expectation.
Victor is passionate and determined, but not in the same way that Gepetto was, because while Gepetto simply wanted a son, Victor wanted perfection.

This specific "please don't hurt me" arm-up pose when she blocks the first knife, implying it's instinctual for her to flinch like this around her mom. How she's more scared of her mother looming over her than the literal knives stuck in her body. I am ILL.
OKOKOK COMMAND PROMPT ANALYSIS SPOILERS BEWARE
OK I AM A BIT CRUNCHY ON MY COMMAND PROMPT KNOWLEDGE SO TAKE WHAT I SAY WITH A GRAIN OF SALT, PLEASE CORRECT ME WHERE I AM WRONG
CAINE MIGHT NOT BE ACTUALLY DEAD. THERE IS A RECYCLE BIN AND GIVEN CAINE DID BREAK ISOLATION IT CAN HAPPEN THAT HE ESCAPES THE BIN. BUT AS THE WAY THINGS ARE MIGHT BE UNLIKELY
ROOT 1340 /USR/AI/MODULE/BRAINSCANS
THE HEADSEAT REALLY COULD BE SCANNING THE MINDS OF THE USERS AND MAKING REPLICAS AKA THE SOMA THEORY BEING TRUE. THERE IS AN ENTIRE FILE OF EACH SCAN IN A HIDDEN SECURED FILE
From what I remember the details of a file are arranged as
[permissions][file path][size][date of creation] nameofthefile
The permissions of a file explains how you can access that file (read, write, ex). So from here, brains scanned characters can be read, written(modified) and CAN'T be scrubbed. These attributes can be changed but at this moment...
Caine was created in 1996. He's a LISP(List Processing) program. It's the second oldest programing language(made in the 1950s) to exist and it was made exactly for AI research
He runs on a custom programmed engine called Paraphernalia. This word comes many times. While it could mean a collection of all the things needed for the AI to run, paraphernalia can also mean
Scatch's file was created in 1999. We can assume this is also when the other characters joined, them all being C&A programmers. They all eventually abstracted, with Queenie being the last to do so in 2000, the same year Ragatha joined. This would explain Kinger's talk about almost giving up in the Guns episode and why Caine was suprised people can still join the circus
That opens the question-- Where are the rest of the brainscan files?
The Wacky Watch is its own program(Coded in C)
Specifically Chef Bubble is its own Lisp program. So there are multiple bubbles then?
Where there playtest of brainscans before the 1999 scans???
WTF IS THE ??? PROGRAM
KINGER'S ATTEMPTS TO STOP HIM
"$ stop caine approach
Attempt to stop the program but not delete it. Invalid approach
"$ /usr/bin/gdb /usr/local/bin/clisp 1337
Not completely sure but I think he's trying to directly move the file to the bin? This operation is stopped by Caine's defense system
"$ chmod 000 /secured/caine-core.lisp
Kinger tries to completely remove any accessibility/permissions to Caine, rendering the program completely unusable. Permission denied
$ rm /secured/paraphenalia-engine.dat
Attempt at deleting the engine needed for Caine to run. Permission denied with the ERROR above. Remember the torment injection, it will be important later
At some point Caine's code detected that Kinger tried to isolate his files after all the attempt listed above. Caine's defensive system is now literally fighting Kinger.
Kinger tries to access the before mentioned "torment injection" in a daemon (program that runs as a background process, independent of an interactive user, typically initiated at system boot to handle continuous tasks like network requests, printing, or system logging).
Usually, a code injection is a security vulnerability where attackers introduce malicious code into a program, forcing it to execute unauthorized commands. C&A already knew how dangerous Caine was, and they hid this kill switch in his own code without him even knowing
If you can read through the chaos, Caine's defense system knows he's being tampered with and you can even read him swearing at Kinger
Kinger does accidentally delete Caine and you can see him try and abort the process but its too late
Bubble Killed Caine
And Bubble was originally the second AI meant to replace Caine
Throughout Kinger's hacking attempt, we see Caine's subconscious responding to his efforts, however there's a second voice mixed in there as well. One screaming things like "DELETE THIS MOTHER****** WHAAAAAAAAA!"
There's only one AI that talks like that.
Kinger tries NOT to delete Caine. It prompts him multiple times and he says no. Then something messes with the prompt and tricks him into answering "yes."
Considering how antagonistic Bubble was becoming to Caine, how the whole start of the episode where we see Caine subsume a more stable AI, and it's been made clear Caine and Bubble are linked (they share a tongue), it seems likely that Bubble was a manifestation of that second AI Caine killed.
I love this text post so I drew it

Bro check it out. It's a drawing of an anime girl. But look closer. She is gaunt and has bags around her eyes. Further yet, she has an overall sullen, disheveled manner. Is that a cigarette? Perhaps a can of beer? That's fucking crazy bro. Holy fuck. Is that allowed? Normally girls are cute. Jesus Christ. That's so crazy man. Wow.
removing the second half of a Chuck Norris joke makes it funny
