Blathering About Bolaire (Again)
With a name like The Totality, could it possibly be where a certain Divine Theatre exploded after a certain Panto show was performed?
Cut for length and Bolaire blather.
Also Iād be terrified and enraged if I was Bolaire. One of those ploughshares is going to be either him or one of his family - at this point it looks like it could be set up as Termina as sheās broken, but sheās not the one being actively reforged into something positive, itās Bolaire.
Unless things change in chapter 2 onwards, Iād be very wary if I was Bolaire. Either itās me or one of the family Iām programmed to love regardless of what they do (and isnāt that a metaphor for the scapegoat dichotomy in families?) that will be used as a ploughshare, and thatās got to be a frightening idea. Everyone turning on you or the ones you love just because they see you as things, ugh. The ultimate removal of autonomy.
Bolaire is a terrifying character if you look at what he does, but thereās something almost noble about restricting his horror to those he deems unworthy, or bad guys. I donāt agree with Punisher kinds of characters, but I can understand why Bolaire in his misguided quest to be a better story, with his newly learned hatred and having to cope with all of this without reference to family, learned morals other than weapon programming, or outside support, did the best he could by focusing on bad guys.
Maybe he will start to change if he can find those willing to volunteer. Maybe he will look after later hosts when theyāre not total things walking in meat clothing. We need to see where the character goes and evolves.
I love Bolaire. I love the journey heās on and where he might end up. Even Pinocchio ended up as a donkey because he was a selfish little shit before he got to be a real boy.
The only real innocent amongst the cast was Wicander, and even he was forced to kill a stranger in order to save himself. Theyāre all on journeys through blood, itās just that Bolaireās is the most obviously parasitic.
I just donāt want him to end up as the mask cemented at the top of a proscenium arch as a ploughshare. Unless he volunteers. At least that would be his choice. But forced into it, like he was forced to fight for over 50 years? (No wonder his twisted psyche went looking to force criminals to be his meat suits.) No.
Heās not as insane as Termina, but thereās no denying the fellow has problems. With kindness and guidance, just maybe he could learn something new; heās certainly clever enough to. I doubt heāll get it now that people know what he is and because he tends towards the obnoxious and arrogant, but hopefully others will start seeing the entity that was enthralled by a silly play about Rauwyn falling in love with the knight she was trying to trick rather than the monster heās been forced to be.
