i cant even scroll through the major crimes tag anymore because its just full of people bitching about how much they hate Rusty! People complain of how much screen time he takes and then make all of their posts about him lol if you don't like him then fine but if you are devoting so much time to writing hate posts then i think you need to chill out a bit! Some of you could have the whole 40 odd minutes full of Shandy and it still wouldnt be enough, its an ensemble show and has been for 5 seasons so it shouldnt be a surprise at this point! lets just all be happy and celebrate that we have a 6th season to look forward to

My mind comes up with the best film concepts when I’m asleep. Here’s one: Jessica Lange as an aging lesbian with two kids seperated from her partner. A younger woman, played by a hip queer actress, moves in next door and they fall in love. Or something like that.

I’m as big a fan of Major Crimes as the next Shandy shipper, but I think it’s important to highlight why Rusty isn’t just simply pushed out of the picture.

As a victim of abuse throughout his childhood, seeing how Rusty grows and adapts through situations can be more than just an interesting story for people.

It’s important for other victims of abuse (emotional, physical and sexual) to see him grow and overcome his challenges. He is still facing problems despite being off of the streets for 5 years. That is completely typical for abuse survivors and it needs to be seen.

I know it’s only a tv show. Its a crime show. But one of the special things about the show is how it focus’ on the Major Crimes team. It’s just as important to be seeing Rusty as it is Sharon. I would say that it is her story, but to try to exclude or get rid of Rusty completely goes against Sharons character and does not do justice to the abuse survivors that Rusty represents.

Shandy shippers have to respect Rusty.

If you hate a main character of a show that’s been around for 5 series and clearly isn’t going anywhere then stop watching lol! Bored of people moaning every week about the same 2 things, not enough shandy and too much Rusty. No one is talking about the storylines or the performances of the cast it’s all about how much people hate Rusty. Feel like it’s disrespectful to the actors and writers who have worked hard on these storylines and putting out great performances and all people are taking away from them is "I hate Rusty beck" Seriously if you hate a character that much that it's all you can talk about after each episode how are you possibly enjoying the show? I'm pretty sure they make the show to bring enjoyment to people and if that's not happening for you then maybe it's time to stop watching.

Hate on Rusty all you like but without him you would have had very few scenes with Sharon outside of work! Everyone is saying that they are sick of seeing Rusty on screen and want more of Sharon, you would have had even less Sharon scenes had it not been for Rusty, think about that.

Also the way James Duff writes Rusty is very accurate. You don't have that much pain and abuse in your past and then all of a sudden get over it, that just doesn't happen. His childhood was pretty horrific, he didn't get to learn how to grow up like your average kid so he's having to learn all of that now. Sharon allows him to act like a bit if a bratty teenager sometimes because he needs to do that to learn how to grow, he's never been given the chance to do that before

Rusty!

OK first off this is my own opinion and you didn’t have to agree with it I just want to voice it.

I to was a little sick of rusty, he always in the shandy scenes, he’s always around when we don’t want him to be, the rusty and gus story line moves quicker then the sharon and Andy story line, BUT I think we all need to be a bit less hostile towards where the rusty story line is going.

(BTW this gets deep)

Rusty was sexually abused, he did things he didn’t want to do in order to do things as simple as feed himself, that gave rusty major trust issues and issues when it comes to letting somebody see every side of your self, but life pushes you to break your walls down and let people in when you aren’t really ready.

Rusty didn’t want to let sharon in at first as he thought she would abandon him like everyone else had, it took him a long long time to realise sharon wouldn’t do that to him so he opened up and began to trust her, that helped rusty to feel safe and begin to find out who he really was

Fast forward a few years and rusty finds gus, sombody that he feels he can love, sombody that makes him feel safe, but just as he begins to get happy his past catches up with him, sharon already knows everything that happend to rusty but gus doesn’t, this is something that rusty has/had to tell gus, opening up and telling someone about an abusive past is probably one of the hardest things to do.

Yes rusty may be annoying but James duff is touching into a very hard subject, yes rustys past is a story line that continues every season but is also continues year after year for people that have been in an abusive past, I personally think that it would be horrible if duff just stopped portraying the rusty story line because it “takes away from shandy” duff is trying to keep a story line going that’s very difficult to deal with and he’s showing the reality of what happens to people like rusty, and if that means we see more of rusty then sharon and Andy then so be it.

I personally feel terrible for past posts that I hated on rusty and I now have a more sensitive approach to rusty and a better understanding.

I’m not saying that people should just stop feeling the way they do about him I just think people need to realise that the rusty story line is there for a reason and people need to understand it a little bit better and think about why rusty is in the show.

I do however understand that rusty doesn’t necessarily need to be in every shandy scene.

(My own opinion and view so please don’t hate on me 😂)

did everyone forget that Rusty Beck was raised by a neglectful drug addict, abused by his mother’s boyfriend, and forced to sell himself on the street at the age of fifteen just to keep himself alive or is not seeing everyone’s old white favs makeout on screen a good enough reason to hate this kid anyway
