Thousands of Chileans have rallied against a bill dubbed the “Monsanto law” that would let multinationals patent GMO seeds. Activists say it will not only compromise food sovereignty in Chile, but will also harm consumer health.
Mass protests were held in at least nine cities across the Latin American country to protest the bill that would allow for the development of genetically modified seeds. Activists carried banners emblazoned with slogans such as “Monsanto kills” and “Monsanto will patent your life.”
Other protesters dressed up as bees and zombies to illustrate their fear that the new legislation could lead to the degradation of Chile’s biodiversity.
The legislation, which was proposed by ex-President Michelle Bachelet, is currently being discussed by the Chilean Senate and has already been approved by the House of Representatives. The law’s official name is the Plant Breeders Act, but it was branded the “Monsanto law” for the multinational agricultural biotechnology corporation.

Science and Nationalism....
I think it is hysterically sad when people dismiss scientific evidence because it was done in another country. The excuse, "well that wasn't in America so they are probably wrong," that people pull out blows my mind.
1.) Just because science on the SAME topic is different from America to say Canada or China, does not mean that the other country is automatically wrong. That is so biased and is in no way a logical argument.
2.) Even if you are iffy on another nations scientific findings because they do not match American findings... what you SHOULD BE IFFY ABOUT IS THE LACK OF CONSENSUS BETWEEN THE TWO. If anything this shows that more extensive testing needs to be done to eliminate discrepancies... that is what the scientific method is for.
But to simply ignore crucial evidence because it is done outside our borders is nationalistic-elitist-biased b.s.! And we are in NO position as a country to believe we are superior in ANY way compared to other nations... and anyway we should not be thinking we are superior PERIOD.

- Missing a dear love of mine, who has been gone nearly five years due to being shot for his belongings (a big screen tv) sometimes... life just doesn't make sense no matter how much you wish it did.
I still miss him every single day. He was the only man I have ever loved and he was taken just far too soon.

Is America Really that Individualistic?
I truly believe that a lot of people in this country believe that they are unique and making individualistic choices. But in a country full of chain stores and mass produced everything are any of us truly our own person anymore?
We are all effected by the bubble of group think, which runs this country. Another psychological paradox; we believe we are the most individualistic society, when in fact we are just as collectivist as any other country – we just don’t seem to know it. We all walk around acting like we are special and inventive in the same name brand clothing and shoes... that is not being special, that’s following the mainstream.
We are mainstream, group think America.
