Anger: Raven || Red X
“I’m not trying to be a friend. You could say I’m being forced beyond my own means.” The thief hissed out. How dare she even say he was becoming chummy with the likes of the Teen Titans. <i>Sure</i> he got along exceptionally well with Artemis. They had something, a connection, that no one but themselves could understand. But never once had he tried, unknowingly to Robin he had attempted a friendship outside of the mask, to pretend to be their friend. He wasn’t a person to lie, all that much. He liked to pride himself on honesty when it came to things he was willing to say.
Red X went to say something more but found the air knocked out of his lungs as his back (and head) mad contact with a very, very hard wall. Stars came to his eyes and he tried blinking them away while instinctively jumping to his feet. A little wobbly but he could fight back blinded if it came down to it.
“Let’s see what you really are.”
Red X merely snorted, slipping into a slightly pained stance. The X’s on his gloves began to glow as his suit powered the substance.
“Bring it, Scary. I still know how to take you down just like I did back then.” He moved to the side, summoning and Xarang to his hand before throwing it as Raven’s general direction. He hadn’t missed Raven’s lack of speaking to summon her shadows. Had her powers changed in a way where she didn’t have to speak to use them?
He was about to find out.
Taking a defensive stance, Raven's hands began to glow darker with energy. Trying to swallow her bubbling anger, she briefly realized her overreaction and felt a tinge of regret. He wasn't a super villain. He wasn't as big a threat as Slade or Trigon. He was an ambiguity, and it was enough to make her feel just uneasy enough to push her over the edge. She couldn't deal with the fact that maybe they were going to be playing on the same side now and maybe she needed to get over her suspicions. Maybe.
"You should be so lucky..."
Summoning her magic, she raised her hand and chanted her mantra,
'azarath, metrion, zinthos!'. A wall of black energy emerged from her palms and raced toward him like a speeding train.
Either way, it couldn't hurt to rough him up a bit.
Magician's Code: Raven || Zatanna
Zatanna had a moment to dive out of the way of the waterfall of volley balls heading her way. The witch wasn’t exactly sure how they were placed there but had less than a moment to try and retaliate from Raven’s power. Zatanna had the sinking feeling it was based off her voice, she wouldn’t run the risk of trying to bind her mind though. It seemed Raven could in fact do it without words.
How was she to win?
Suddenly she wished she had Robin on her side to help give her an advantage or to plan out an attack strategy. Zee took a breath, eyes locking on to her target. She knew one this, she’d need to be absolutely vigilant if she planned on being in this game for long.
Raven raised an eyebrow. She could sense the power inside Zatanna, but couldn't understand why she wasn't retaliating. If she didn't want to fight, she could just walk away. But she held her ground fast.
Lowering herself to the floor, her black energy dissipated and she took a few steps toward the magician girl. Magic versus magic can turn messy quickly, but Raven admit to herself that she was genuinely curious. She hadn't wanted to scare Zatanna or rub her the wrong way, she just saw this as a hard to come by opportunity-- it wasn't every day she fought someone magic on magic.
"Alright... you can lead." Raven stood there and lowered her defenses. She wanted to see what this girl could do. Maybe she'd learn a thing or two.
Tea Shopping [[RAVEN]]
Relaxing now that Raven didn’t seem too upset with him, Kaldur smiled at her statement to get to know the city better. “Yeah, Happy Harbour can be weird sometimes, it took me a while to get used to it too. Book stores are always a plus, I do enjoy the occasional surface book. Though most of my books comes from the Cave’s library rather than the stores. I have to finish everything there first before moving to newer books from the store shelves,” he laughed.
“What’s your cup of choice?”
Thinking for a bit, he reflected on all the teas he had purchased so far. Making sure to keep his voice low in case of any curious shopkeepers, he said, “Since I recently started spending a lot of time on the surface world, I haven’t tried all of the teas yet. So far, I seem to be enjoying the Rooibos blends moreso than any of the other blends. Atlantean tea is not the same as the tea on the surface, so it took me a while to adjust my tastes.”
He looked down at the tea she was holding in her hand and noticed the word herbal on it. “I take it you enjoy herbal teas then?”
'Atlantean tea...? hm.', she thought to herself. Raven had done an extensive amount of reading on the oceanic kingdom's history over the years but had never really thought about something as simple as their blends of tea. She empathized with Kaldur-- Being away from what was familiar just, for lack of a better word, sucked. Even if it was something as simple as a cup of tea.
Nodding, she thought over her wares. Back at Titans tower, she had blends of almost every combination. Each served its own purpose and were basically medicinal to her soul self... Whether she enjoyed them or not was not exactly the point, though for the most part she preferred tea to the protein shakes Robin was always pushing on her.
"You could say that..."
From the corner of her eye, she saw a young shopkeeper staring and whispering excitedly to her coworker behind the counter. Taking that as her queue, she glanced back to the Atlantean standing before her and whispered,
"Looks like you've got a fan... might want to pay and escape before she calls in the horde..."
I’ll zinthos your butt ‘til the end
Raven can’t drink her cup of tea in peace
Tea Shopping [[RAVEN]]
Kaldur took a moment to observe Raven’s choice of clothing. She was wearing shorts and a simple tank top - not anything over the top extraordinary. He himself was clad in a long-sleeved wind jacket - only to cover his tattoos and gills - cargo pants, and sandals. Heh, maybe even the Titans had to own civilian clothes so they could go into the city undetected.
Was her skin always so pale?
Realizing that he was asked a question, he rubbed the back of his neck sheepishly. “Yeah, had to restock. I’m usually the only tea drinker in the mountain, with the exception of the occasional cup Black Canary enjoy, so I usually don’t buy too much tea. But now that the mountain is populated by more, I find that I need to buy more tea.”
Realizing that Raven must have been here probably to buy some tea for herself, Kaldur widened his eyes. “Oh no, you didn’t have to go all the way here to buy it. You could have let one of us know. You didn’t have to go through all the trouble…”
Having finally collected herself fully, Raven took in his comment and found herself frowning slightly. She hated being a burden, and even as simple a thing as drinking some of his tea made her feel guilty. She shook her head in response to his remark.
"It was no problem... I wanted to get to know the city better anyway. I came across a few bookstores I mean to visit when I have the chance..."
Glancing down to the tea in her hands, she let out a small exasperated breath. "Besides, my meditation demands that I have.. particular taste in tea."
She chanced a glance back up into his eyes and vaguely wondered how the Atlantian fared on the battlefield. On the surface he seemed to be calm and collected-- but his eyes were fierce, almost.
'Nice contrast to the sweater...' she thought, allowing a tiny smirk to grace her features.
"What's your cup of choice?"
((My best friend and I from like 2008. Our dynamic is essentially exactly BB and Raven's. We're rlyrly cool.))
Magician's Code: Raven || Zatanna
Zatanna shifted herself, Raven knew something about her magic while she only knew whatever the other witch used was dark and evil. The user herself didn’t look or feel evil but the magic that electrified the air around her felt heavy with fear and emotions that leaned to a more horrible and disturbing side of the emotional spectrum.
Canary had started their match and Zee made sure to be prepared for the worst. Light and Dark magics didn’t tend to like each other very well. Light wanted to purify while the darkness wanted to corrupt. It took her a moment to realize there was something on her legs. The witch tried to jump away from it but found herself stuck. The other witch hadn’t used words? Zatanna couldn’t fight against that. Obviously this meant Raven was a much more powerful witch than herself. She couldn’t hope to win this fight but she could try to last as long as possible.
“Ssenkrad eht pu thgil!” Zee moved her hand in a circle as light began to glow around her legs, effectively rendering the tendrils of darkness keeping her in place useless. The pitch in her stomach seemed to grow but she wouldn’t forfeit the match, not yet. Even if her father would chastise her for it in the future (when she eventually saved him from Nabu!) She didn’t know how to back down even in horribly unbalanced situations.
For now she’d play defensive and let the dark witch own the field of play.
Before she knew what was happening, her magic had dissipated and Zatanna was free from her reach. Clenching her fists, she waited for an attack but none came. Narrowing her eyes, she tried to get a reading from the girl.
'She seems afraid... but determined. She's playing defensive, but the show must go on...'
"Azarath, metrion, zinthos!" Raven chanted in her monotone rasp as her eyes began to glow. She was lifted several yards into the air on a disc of her own black energy as she glared down to the magician below her. Focusing on a shelf of volleyballs off to the side of the room, Raven levitated them and sent them shooting towards her.
Tea Shopping [[RAVEN]]
After idly reading the tea they had on display for open-weight, Kaldur decided that perhaps checking the pre-packed one would be a wise choice before making a decision. Since when did Teavana ovver packed tea anyway? He never saw it advertised and never really noticed it, but now it was labeled with big signed on the wall.
Shrugging it off as new renovations, he made his way to the shelf. He noticed a crouched figure looking at the herbal teas on the bottom shelf, and they had purple hair. Not quite understanding the trends in the surface world’s teenagers, Kaldur turned his attention to the upper shelves where the white teas were held.
Wait. That figure looked familiar. Before he could look down, he felt them - her - bumping into his chest.
Now he recognized her. “Raven! What a pleasure seeing you here!” he said, honestly surprised.
Raven's cheeks flushed red and she wished more than anything that she had her hood so she could hide her embarrassment. Shaking her head and blinking twice, the blush faded from her cheeks as she looked up into the boy's eyes.
"Sorry about tha-- oh, Kaldur?" She said softly taking a few steps back, feeling somewhat taken off-guard. It was odd she hadn't sensed him and she made a mental note to meditate on it later.
She hadn't really noticed before, but Kaldur had lovely eyes.
Realizing she had been staring into them for a brief moment too long, she snapped out of it and added "Good to run into you. You here to restock too?"
