Summary:

Shane had been alone when he set out to have this cottage built all those years ago. But he isn’t alone now, and he hasn’t been in a very long time. This house may not have been built on the foundation of love at the start; but he’s willing to bet anything that if you took it down to the studs, to the very bones of it, that you would find decades worth of their love and joy weathering the building through each year that passes. This place had been his, but now it is theirs.

The cottage will always be their first home, one that they built together.

I saw a post about Shane and Ilya being sad that they can't thank each other in their acceptance speeches like other can with their spouses and it got me thinking:

Ilya wins his first awards and hes got nobody he really wants to thank after his team and coach cause he he hates his family but he knows his speech is too short so on impulse he goes "And I want to thank Shane Hollander for being slightly worse than me this season". Everyone knows it was going to one of those two, so everyone thinks hes an asshole to say that but whats new so it works for him. But from then on it then becomes a bit for both of them to thank each other in their speeches in a snide way as a reason they won.

Shane winning the Art Ross Trophy (Awarded to the player who leads the league in total points at the end of the regular season). and going "special thanks to Rozanov for missing at least 5 shots this season, he was a huge help"

Ilya winning the Conn Smythe Trophy (Awarded to the most valuable player for his team in the playoffs.) "Just want to give a quick shout out to Hollander for getting knocked out in the second round this season. Must hate to see me up here."

They find a way to mention the other in their speeches every time all the time.

Once upon a time a group of idiots (The Boston Raiders) decided to steal their captains phone and prank call his girl.

Shane (Home sick with a horrible cold) (Bored) (Missing his boyfriend) replies in a deep gravelly voice: Hey, how’s my baby doing?

The Boston raiders then hang up the phone and never talk about Ilya Rozanov’s secret boyfriend who they all assume must be the gruffest biker/lumberjack/bouncer in the world.

my belief system: Cliff Marleau is a chill dude but he does not Know Things. When he finds out about hollanov, he's happy that Ilya is happy but also is sad for him because he thinks gay men can't do missionary and Hollander has a pretty face for a dude so the idea he can't look at him is upsetting

at the end of the day the thing about shane that makes me completely insane is the dichotomy between his bodily autonomy being stripped from him through hockey (to inhabit the myth of himself yes) and the willingness with which he gives it up for ilya.

In my mind, Shane's username is ShaneHollanderHockeyPlayer because there is another Shane Hollander who is a forensic anthropologist out of UC Berkeley who got the username ShaneHollander first. Shane's username was originally just ShaneHollander24 but that didn't differentiate between them enough and Shane was waking up once or twice a month to DMs like "Hey Shane my name is CSI Sanders with the Las Vegas crime lab we wanted to get your opinion on this scene in Henderson NV, hope you don't mind got your info from your office out in SF they said this was the best way to contact you" and several dozen images of what is clearly a violently murdered skeleton.

Shane Hollander the anthropologist has a standing invitation to any of the Metros games against the Mission and donates generously to the Irina Foundation every year. Also, he had to deactivate his professional accounts for a few days in 2021. Shane and Ilya sent him an edible arrangement. Ilya wrote "Sorry bone man :(" on the card when Shane wasn't looking.

Hollanov | 11.5k | pt1 of the I don’t know what’s got it’s teeth in me series, but can be read as a stand alone.

Summary:

Shane is steady and persistent in his love for Ilya, never letting up for even a moment. It’s not loud, and it doesn’t need to be. It’s all consuming, trusting and sure. Ilya hasn’t had to doubt his place in Shane’s life in a long time, never having to guess the degree to which Shane would go to make him happy. He hopes that Shane feels it reflected in the love Ilya has for him, too. Hopes he’s able to see through all the petty bullshit Ilya throws his way when he’s dealing with his own battles. Maybe he does, maybe that’s why he’s able to stand so strong and so resilient against the emotional hurricanes he keeps sticking Shane in the pathway of.

But, if Ilya is a hurricane, destructive and devastating, then Shane is the eye of it. The only clear thing in the center of his mass of destruction. The only thing that ever makes sense.

Or; Ilya is trying to get better, really, he is. But, healing isn’t linear, and sometimes it’s hard to believe you’re getting anywhere when it feels like you’re wading through quicksand.

Can't stop thinking about how much of a relief it must have been for Ilya to realise how insanely predictable Shane is. Like, he's lived his whole life with a mother who had horrible mental illness, a father who was unstable and always angry, a brother who couldn't even hold down a job. He's had to keep secrets and lie and read between the lines just to survive.

And here's Shane. Shane who folds his clothes before sex. Shane who will always be happy with a cold ginger beer. Shane who has a stylist and an interior decorator because he likes things to look objectively nice.

Shane who answers "How many times can you cum in an hour?" completely literally. Shane who has no filter and comments on the bed being dirty within 0.2 seconds of cumming all over it. Shane who comes out to Ilya the moment he figures it out himself, and who tells him point blank that it's not just sex, because he never ever expects Ilya to read his mind.

Their relationship is far from simple, but it's probably one of the most predictable things in Ilya's world. Shane is a safe harbour throughout the years, even while the hurricane around Ilya only gets more and more destructive.
