That second comment made me choke on my coffee.
Anti gunners are so predictable. I've given up on citing crime statistics to support my views because it's so easy to lie with statistics. Instead I argue on the moral principle that the right to bear arms is a necessary safeguard against tyranny. Every time say this, the person I'm arguing with says the same thing: "Oh yeah your rifle is going to defend you against an attack helicopter/tank/drone/whatever" I find this argument profoundly terrible on many levels. First: Tyranny and war are not the same thing. Second: It portrays such a weak faith in humanity. That they think our servicemen would be so mindlessly devoted to orders that they would GO TO WAR with their civilian neighbors is insulting to the men and women of the armed forces. Third: An Apache helicopter cannot enforce a checkpoint. A tank cannot hand out propaganda. A drone cannot search your home for contraband (yet lol). A hummer cannot assign work duties to you and the men in your family. All of these things require people. An armed populace requires full scale ground war and martial law to enforce tyranny. If it came to that, there is exactly a 0% chance of the rest of the world letting it happen. A disarmed populace, however, needs only a contingent of power hungry policemen to do all of the things war machines cannot. With a disarmed populace, tyranny needs only to offer meager special privileges for those who enforce it for the people to be subjugated. Fuck that argument.
Why I believe a lot of gun enthusiasts are psychopaths.
First off, I believe in the right to own a gun. It’s in the constitution, we use them for hunting, and they’re a part of our society. What I don’t believe in however, is solving all your problems with a gun.
The most common scenario that’s brought up with guns are home defense. While that’s a reasonable argument, there are some huge flaws with it. In most states, there’s a law that states that you have a duty to retreat. You can’t just open fire on anyone that comes into your home unless you have absolutely no other options AND your life is on the line. There isn’t a single possession that you could possibly have that’s worth taking someone’s life over.
There are so many stories of people who have gone into the wrong house by accident or were going to a friend’s house and got lost on the way or stuff similar to that and ended up being killed because of trigger-happy “gun enthusiasts” with no regards to human life.
Just because someone enters your home DOES NOT give you the right to put a bullet in their head. I wish they’d teach this in gun safety lessons.
Simply racking a gun or shouting out that you’ve called the police will make most intruders flee out of fear.
If they come at you with a weapon of some sort, your first instinct should be to run. jump out a window, go out a back-door, hide in your bathroom. stuff like that. Your next action if they’re still coming at you is to fire a warning shot if the situation allows you the time to do that. After that, if for some reason they’re still coming at you, and ONLY if you have absolutely no other options or any other way out, should you shoot to incapacitate, not kill. I wish they’d teach this stuff in gun training classes.
Remember, you’re bargaining with someone else’s life. If you kill someone then you have to live with that burden for the rest of your life. Think before you act.
I am going to put this in the most diplomatic fashion I possibly can:
Fuck you.
I, as a living being, have the right to defend my life and my family in whatever way I damn well please. When you say that I’m somehow supposed to retreat, you’re telling me that that criminal’s life is more important than my own. I absolutely reject that. My family’s safety comes first, my own second, and anyone attempting to do us harm fucking never.
“In most states, there’s a law that states that you have a duty to retreat.“
Better tried by twelve than carried by six.
“There isn’t a single possession that you could possibly have that’s worth taking someone’s life over.“
There isn’t a single possession I could have that’s worth someone risking their life to take. Don’t want to get shot? Don’t try to take my shit, asshole.
Furthermore, how am I supposed to know what they’re after? Just ask them? “Gee, Mr. Bad Guy, do you promise not to hurt me?” Sure, MAYBE they’re only here for the TV, or maybe they’re here to kill me and rape my wife. I’m not going to take that fucking chance.
“Your next action if they’re still coming at you is to fire a warning shot if the situation allows you the time to do that.“
Warning shots are a terrible idea because, guess what, over-penetration happens. I refuse to put my neighbors at risk just to save the life of some piece of shit criminal.
“After that, if for some reason they’re still coming at you, and ONLY if you have absolutely no other options or any other way out, should you shoot to incapacitate, not kill.“
So, what, you want me to shoot their fucking kneecap or something? Yeah, great, maybe if you’re a fucking Navy SEAL. For the rest of us, being amp’d up on adrenaline is going to make anything other than “center mass” a tough thing to hit. If I ever have to defend myself I’m going to give myself the best chance possible to survive, and that means putting multiple rounds on the biggest, easiest target.
I don’t want to kill anyone. I really don’t - the idea fucking terrifies me. But you know what terrifies me even more? Not doing everything I can to protect my family. If that means putting someone who made a conscious, voluntary decision to threaten us in the ground, so be it. Nobody forced our hypothetical criminal into breaking into a house - they made that choice of their own free will. If they break into a house with a gun owner, then they chose poorly and will suffer the consequences.

Just In Case
You see a guy with a gun. You call the police. You’re told there’s nothing they can do because open carry is lawful. You decide to go buy a gun.
You have a gun. You see a guy with a gun. You don’t know if he’s an open carry advocate, or on his way to kill people. You show him your gun. He was on his way to kill people, so instead of killing you, he goes and kills someone else.
You have a gun. You see a guy with a gun. You don’t know if he’s an open carry advocate, or on his way to kill people. He doesn’t know if you are an open carry advocate, or on your wat to kill people. You both stare at each other, waiting to see who draws first. Neither of you get your shopping done.
You have a gun. You see a guy with a gun. You don’t know if he’s an open carry advocate, or on his way to kill people. He knows he’s on his way to kill people, so he kills you first, so you can’t stop him.
You have a gun. You see a guy with a gun. You don’t know if he’s an open carry advocate, or on his way to kill people. You keep your gun hidden so he doesn’t decide to kill you first. He kills someone else. When you pull out your gun to kill him, the cops kill you instead.
You have a gun. You keep it hidden. You see a guy who doesn’t appear to have a gun. You don’t know if he has one, but just keeps it hidden. You kill him, just in case.
Most criminals don’t display their firearm in a holster on their hip. They keep it hidden until they muster up the courage to commit their crime. I don’t know what point you were driving at but open carry is legal in most states and your fantasies are not reality.
This is right there alongside the “traffic disputes will cause gunfights if people can carry” and “teachers will get annoyed at students and shoot them if they’re allowed to have guns!”
Baseless, shameless fear mongering that has nothing to do with reality.
This post gave me cancer and rusted the rivets on my carry holster.
I know OP was trying to shy away from carry as a whole and limit the size of their sample to just open carry. But, OP opened up the discussion of concealed carry in their last little story.
So, @bukkhead, can you explain to the class the basis of your claim? Can show to us the evidence?
Can you explain why multiple studies find concealed carry holders 5 to 14x less likely to commit a crime?

Or are you going to suffer the gun control narcolepsy when confronted?
Yo OP sweet poem, your sample size of zero is very convincing. I used to work in a pharmacy in an OC state, and there were two or three older guys who would come in with a pistol on their belt. I never assumed they were on their way to kill anyone because I'm not a paranoid asshole. They bought their medicine, I chatted them up about their handguns, and they left.
How about this OP: You buy a gun because you were raised in a household that doesn't condone conspicuous victimhood. You carry it because you've read stories about the horrible things criminals have done to people. You see someone else carrying and idly chat. You never have to use your gun because the odds of a crime happening to you are tiny, but if something did happen, you'd be ready to end it before it before it ends you
Firearms in the United States are a fact of life. Even by the most conservative estimates, throw a rock in a crowded room and you’ve got a 50/50 chance of hitting someone who owns a firearm. Given the fact thatRead More

MOMS DEMAND INACTION REGARDING ACTUAL SAFETY
This is one of the finest bits of trolling I’ve ever seen. From u/hunterjay on reddit:
“As you know CT has some tough legislation for “assault” weapons. A local shop created the FM-14 (F*ck Malloy ‘14) which passed the sniff test to date. From their FB post:We put it to the ATF and asked them to render a judgement. 1. It is not a rifle, as it doesn’t have a buttstock. 2. It isn’t a pistol, as it has a forward grip. 2.a. It isn’t a pistol under CT law either, as the barrel is over 12in in length. 3. It isn’t an AOW, as it is over 26in in length. 4. It isn’t ANYTHING in their classification, so they decided it was an 'other’.A firearm that is NOT a rifle, NOT a pistol, NOT an AOW. No tax stamp needed. And since the CT AWB SPECIFICALLY bans 'AW’ under the rifle, pistol and shotgun categories, and since this isn’t any of those, by both CT law and by the ATF decision - ergo - it is NOT an AW. And is CT legal.”
People are finding mad examples of Jar Jar doing the Jedi Mind Trick and I’m so mad
i cant believe of all the theories in the world this was the one that was fucking canon
“As someone mentioned on reddit already, Jar Jar is a CG-rendered character, so every single motion he makes is deliberate. The animators intentionally directed his every gesture, his ever turn of head, his movement of lips. This is very different from an actor who just happens to look at an odd direction or make a strange posture - those can be accidents. This is intentional.“
The Jar-Jar theory is so ridiculous I can’t even start
Removing access to guns from domestic violence perpetrators is an important step to #ProtectAllWomen
THIS IS ALREADY ILLEGAL!
Question 11h on the federal 4473 (form needed to be completed to legally buy a gun) specifically asks:
‘Are you subject to a court order restraining you from harassing, stalking, or threatening your child or an intimate partner or child ofsuch partner?’
Answering yes automatically bars you from legally purchasing or owning a gun and lying on this form is a federal offense.
You fucking idiots. Stop spreading bullshit about topics that you clearly know nothing about.
