One of my fav BBC Merlin headcanons is that Arthur knows all the castle gossip cuz Merlin just blabs all the info he hears around the castle to him when they’re alone.

Merlin: *entering Arthur’s room to pick up laundry* “You’ll never guess what Mary said about Cassie.”

Arthur: *wants to know cuz he’s invested at this point* “What do I pay you to do Merlin? Listen to gossip in the Tavern all day?”

Merlin: *ignores him and continues the story*

And yes, Merlin does tell Arthur important stuff too like which guards are slacking off or who could be (is definitely) a traitor. But mainly Arthur is invested in the years long saga of a kitchen maid and a laundry maid that seem like they hate each other but Merlin caught them kissing recently and he *needs* to know what’s happening with them.

(Leon has overheard many… MANY… things he’d like to gossip about. He cannot for it would go against his beloved Knights Code. But he’s seen some shit. He would like to stop knowing things. Leon is tired. #LetLeonSleep2026)

a servant of two masters really said what if merlin was a feral little assassin and everyone around him just nodded and carried on like that was normal. arthur’s out here obliviously dodging murder attempts every five minutes. leon actively enables an attempt just for funsies by literally handing merlin the weapon. the knights are so desensitised to merlin that this is just a normal wednesday to them

Trying to forbid Merlin from casting certain spells turned out to be absolutely useless. The man would be perfectly happy to throw hands, be it with bandits or arrogant nobles (his self restraint was proven nonexistent the moment he tried to punch the actual prince of Camelot upon meeting him)

I have to think that not everyone in the magic community is fully aware of the prophecy of Albion, Arthur as the Once and Future King, etc., bc if they were, why tf they always trying to kill him??? I think the prophecy is so old and has been passed around so much it's like a game of telephone, so there's versions that are.......pretty far from the OG edition.

But Emrys, they know Emrys. They apparently have an ability to sense him, although that's hit or miss sometimes too. But not everyone knows about the other half of his coin, nor do they expect to ever see Arthur fucking Pendragon kicking it with a minor god of magic.

Imagine. You are a Druid. You live in Camelot. You have been caught by the knights. You are approached by none other than Arthur Pendragon. You fully expect to cross the veil.

And then.

He appears.

The man, the myth, the motherfucker himself.

Emrys.

Who walks right up to Arthur Fucking Pendragon. Calm as anything. Puts a hand on his arm. And tells him to let you go, you've done no harm.

And he does.

You have to leave Camelot, but you are allowed to live. And Emrys leaves with Arthur Pendragon.

You gotta imagine that these poor bastards are just left Shooketh™ like
