SIX OF CROWS APPRECIATION WEEK | DAY SEVEN âł ALL OF THE CROWS: This week on Buzzfeed Unsolved we investigate the Ice Court Heist, one of the most secured military stronghold in all of Fjerda.
the crows as buzzfeed unsolved out of context:
kaz:
inej:
jesper:
wylan:
nina:
matthias:
basically the plot of six of crows & crooked kingdom:
Colm about Pekka Rollins and Van Eck:
Kuwei to Jesper:
I get that people are more into villains these days and I feel that theyâre so eager to push that onto Kaz but the point is that his merciless killing without any reasons reputation is exaggerated by his own self lol. I know no one wants to admit to that cause they feel itâll take away from Kaz (when it really doesnât..?) he only lets people believe heâll do anything for a price but heâs always had lines he doesnât cross and more morals then anyone else in the barrel can say they do.
Itâs like the issue with his gloves, people think he has blood stained hands or monster claws and Kaz KNOWS this, even though we know itâs not true he lets people perpetuate the lie. Thatâs exactly what his âdidnât need a reasonâ facade is like too, Iâve said before Kaz only lets people think this to hide his soft morally righteous parts. In the duology youâll even see Kaz spit out a lot of crap on things âhe WOULD doâ but he doesnât anyway? Why? He didnât need a reason right? So why not do it? Cause again HEđđŸHASđđŸMORALS đđŸ AND đđŸ LINES đđŸHE đđŸDOESNâTđđŸCROSSđđŸ
I even saw an argument that Kaz would be considered a villain (as for us readers.) if we didnât have his perspective but even then thatâs not true, Kaz may very well be seen as a monster and a âvillainâ by many people in the books aside from his crew but again this was done on purpose by Kaz himself. Itâs cause of the fact that a lot of shit Kaz says heâll apparently âdoâ he doesnât end up doing it, so realistically speaking does that sound like a âvillainâ at all? Kaz rarely kills, only kills when necessary and only has ever been written to kill bad people⊠who honestly deserved it.
Itâs justified and not because we have Kazâs or any of the other crows perspectives on it. This is why heâs described as âmorally greyâ a villain is purely bad despite their ârighteous intentions.â Theyâre still wrong. Kaz was never one to say heâs âgoodâ, he always called himself the âmonsterâ even though we as the readers can see that he isnât and even Inej whom is one of the main leads acknowledges this multiple times in the books. A villain would never admit to himself as âwrongâ cause to themselves âtheyâre a hero.â but as readers weâre supposed know thatâs not true.
Sure Kaz may con people and he steals, threatens and blackmails, leads heists and all that criminal stuff, which isnât right ofc, but then again Kaz isnât supposed to be a ârighteous holier than thou type of characterâ itâs why heâs âmorally greyâ he does bad things but also has that side of âheroism and goodnessâ in him too that lies deep within at his core, where it really matters. If Kaz is considered a villain for doing all that? Then everyone in the dregs and each of the crows are also villains too lol.
Even without his POV Kaz would be seen as a morally grey character and not really a villain⊠and itâs OKAY not every cool, intelligent, and ruthless character needs to be a villain to be loved and appreciated⊠hell even Jesper and Inej have more of a kill count in SOC than Kaz does lol but that doesnât âmakeâ them evil or villains. Theyâre justified for their actions not cause we have their âPOVâ but because they have valid reasons always. Kaz Brekker always has his reasons.

Guys I did it, I finished another Kazpernej fic!
âWeâre not getting a goat Jesper.â
Kazâs voice held no room for defiance, his words harsh and direct. The boy it was directed at didnât seemed deterred however. Jesper pouted, jutting out his bottom lip the way he normally would to get Kaz to cave.
âBut we need a mascot!â Jesper was whining now, and Kaz could feel his resolve breaking. He looked to the only other person in the room for help, finding Inej watching the two with a fond smile. She stayed quiet, busying herself with the stand for her keyboard and pretending she couldnât tell Kaz needed her back up.
Kaz huffed in annoyance, glaring at her before side stepping as he caught his boyfriend reaching for his arm. Jesper flashed him an apologetic smile, it was so quick that Kaz almost missed it, but it was enough to know Jesper understood he needed physical space today.
âWeâre a band, Jesper.â Kaz gestured around himself to the scattered instruments the two of them were currently setting up. âNot a sports team.â
Before Jesper could reply, a voice from across the room spoke up. âWe should get hot groupies instead.â
âYouâre not helping Nina.â The girl in question only smirked at him, walking up to the stage where the three of them stood.
âIgnore her.â Jesper waved his hand dismissively in Ninaâs direction. âIâm just saying, I think it would be cute if we had a little mascot to take to all our gigs.â
âI donât think itâs a good idea either,â Inej finally spoke up, having decided to finally take pity on Kaz. âIâm sorry Jes.â
âNot you too Inej!â Jesper spun so fast Kaz was afraid he would loose his balance and fall off the stage.
âItâs so loud, and crowded.â Inej continued despite Jesperâs whines of protest. âIt doesnât seem fair to bring a goat into that kind of environment.â
Inej laid her hand on their boyfriendâs shoulder, giving it a small squeeze. Jesperâs determined look faltered for a moment as he met her kind eyes. But he pushed her hand away gently, shaking his head as if to stop a spell she had cast on him.
âWe could get tiny little ear muffs and Matthias could be itâs body guard!â Jesper looked between Inej and Kaz hopefully, his excitement growing at the thought of a goat in ear muffs.
âOoh, I might be on board now.â
âNina.â Kaz warned, frustrated their drummer was engaging in Jesperâs idea.
She shrugged, finally making her way up on the stage. âWhat? Heâs cute.â
Jesper beamed at her, moving to help her start setting her drums in place. Her next words had him freezing mid-step.
âThe only problem is he doesnât like goats.â
Jesper gasped in shock, holding his hand to his chest. âWhat kind of monster doesnât like goats?â
Kaz rolled his eyes at his boyfriendâs theatrics, turning away to grab his base guitar from itâs case. âMe. Which means weâre not getting one.â
âI bet if you met Milo then-â
âMilo?â Kaz cut him off, turning slowly back to Jesper.
Jesperâs eyes widened as he realized his mistake. He shook his head, waving his hands infront of him. But the damage was already done.
âJesper.â Kaz took a deep breath, preparing to question something he really didnât want the answer too. âPlease me you didnât already buy a goat.â
Jesper chuckled nervously, fiddling with the edge of his sweater sleeve. âI didnât buy a goat.â
His voice sounded a lot more confident then he looked and Kaz took that to mean he was telling a half truth. He raised an eyebrow at Jesper, waiting for his boyfriend to explain himself. Jesper fidgeted under his gaze but made no move to speak again.
Inej gently placed a hand on Jesperâs forearm, tilting her head to the side to meet his gaze. That was all it took to get Jesper to crack. He let out a loud sigh, glancing briefly at Kaz before looking back down at Inej.
âYou know how I went to visit Mal when his sister Mariam was sick?â They both nodded, not sure where this was going. âTurns out Mariam is actually the name of his goat. And she recently gave birth to a little baby goat, but she canât raise him because she really is sick and Malâs busy looking after Mariam so I may have offered to look after the baby goat for him.â
Kaz blinked a few times, trying to wrap his head around Jesperâs story. He ignored Nina stifling her laughter in the background and focused on the key point of what Jesper had said.
âSo this baby goat, is Milo?â At Jesperâs nod he continued. âAnd how long do you expect youâll be looking after it?â
Jesper perked up at his words. âDoes that mean youâre okay with Milo staying with us?â
Kaz didnât answer, instead going back to his own question that Jesper had dodged. âHow long Jesper.â
âOnly a few weeks!â Jesper was practically bouncing with excitement, his hand going to hold Inejâs on his arm.
Kaz caught Inejâs eye, silently asking her if she was alright with this. She gave a nod so small he was sure even Jesper had missed it. But it was all the answer he needed.
âFine.â
Jesper let out a delighted squeal, wrapping his arms around Inej and lifting her off the ground to spin her around in victory. She instinctively put her arms around his neck, a chuckle escaping her. Jesper set her down, giving her a peck on the forehead. He turned to Kaz, glee written all over his face.
He almost regretted his next words, not wanting to put a damper on their mood. But Kaz knew he had to be their voice of reason this time.
âIt canât come to work with us. Inej is right, our gigs are too loud.â Jesper nodded, his happiness unfazed. âAnd it goes back to Mal the minute he can look after it again.â
Jesper beamed at him, taking a few steps to close the gap between them. He held out his hand, hovering it next to Kazâs and waited. Kaz let out a loud sigh, giving Jesperâs hand a tight squeeze before letting go.
âYouâll love him, heâs so tiny and cute and sweet andââ
âJesper.â He waited for Jesperâs attention to focus before he continued. âWe should finish getting set up.â
Jesper nodded, quickly getting to work with a new bounce in his step. Kaz couldnât stop the fond smile that made its way to his lips.
If living with a goat for a few weeks meant Jesper was this happy, it was a price Kaz was willing to pay.

S u m m a r y : what happens after Inejâs reunion with her parents in Ketterdam? A three chapter story about my take on Inej and Kaz facing her parents and telling them about her past.
â Â Â â Â Â â
âYou really thought of everything.â Inej said quietly as she closed the door to what would be her parentsâ room for the next few weeks.
She hadnât expected Kaz to bring them to her, least of all had she expected him to have already asked Wylan to host them in his mansion. She was still surprised Jesper had managed to keep that secret from her for all those weeks.
âWell, I couldnât leave them in the streets, could I?â he simply said, flexing his fingers in the tight leather gloves.
Now that sheâd seen and touched his bare hands Inej couldnât stop staring. She wanted to reach out and entwine her fingers with his again, feel the unexpected warmth of his touch.
Kaz noticed her staring and he bit his lip. Hard to say if he was thinking the same thing or if he was just regretting having let her in just a couple hours before.
âI donât know how to thank you.â she repeated, looking up at him and hoping she could convey her feelings with one simple glance.
Kazâs eyes were wide as he returned her look. He opened his mouth, seemingly about to say something, then he closed it again and looked away.

skillet bread and mangoes
For @kanejweek Day 5: Love (atypical affection, domesticity)
Pairing: Kaz x Inej
Warnings:Â only sickly sweet domesticity here
Someday youâll meet a boy who will learn your favorite flower, your favorite song, your favorite sweet. Padjen recalled the morning she had overheard her beloved husband telling their young daughter those words.
Her eyes wandered the countertops of the Van Eck mansionâs kitchen. Golden mangoes overflowed from a wicker basket, ripe enough that the kitchen smelled sweetly of the rare tropical fruit that had been a favorite of Inejâs in childhood.
âŠeven if he is too poor to give you any of them, her husband had continued. There was no shortage of expensive scarce goods here; Kaz Brekker had made sure of that, though Inej would not tell Padjen exactly how. But Padjen was no fool - she knew it meant no less that Inejâs favorites were easily in Brekkerâs reach thanks to his great wealth. She knew he would have acquired the mangoes no matter the amount of gold in his pocket.
Padjen turned her attention back to the dough at her fingertips. She folded the bread under and over itself, under and over, as she had a million times before, eyeing the dill just to the side of her pan. It would go in on the last fold.Â
A familiar tap and step sounded from the hallway. Sure enough the door creaked open to reveal Kaz Brekker, the boy who had mysteriously paid their passage all that time ago.
He has brought her knives and death, not flowers and songs, Padjen recalled fretting at her husband only days after meeting Kaz Brekker.
Only one woman loves knives with the names of Saints, her beloved husband had responded sagely. Padjen had put her fingers to her lips, then her chest, in the holy gesture of her Saints.

ketterdam unsolved
For @kanejweek Day 3: Adventure (robbery & piracy, outer space)
Pairing: Kaz x Inej
Warnings: for some explicit language
Summary: (modern au) ketterdamâs version of buzzfeed unsolved (not what i expected when i started out) but you donât have to watch bfu to get it, itâs just a modern ghost hunting au with a twist
âIf this is going to work, then Kaz needs to be the skeptic and Inej the believer.â Wylan kept saying in various reiterations without ever explaining why.
âThis isnât going to work.â Jasper repeated.
âShouldnât that be Kazâs line?â Inej smiled dazzlingly his way.
âWylan is right.â Kaz finally spoke, his voice unwavering rough stone.
Silence fell over the room. Theyâd been bickering over the roles for several minutes and Kaz had kept his peace until now.
âEven if he doesnât know why.â Kaz continued, effectively erasing the satisfied smile from Wylanâs face.
Jesper stuck his tongue out at Wylan in retaliation, but Wylan actively ignored him.
âJesper, youâll be manning the camera.â Kaz said, then, a moment later: âWhat was that?â
âNothing, boss,â Jesper shot back enthusiastically, though theyâd all clearly heard him mutter a second ago: âYouâll regret that when you see the footage.â
Kaz nodded in satisfaction. It wasnât that they didnât all rile him up intentionally once in awhile; it was that you didnât do it during a job.
After all, if they were going to steal the Lantsov Emerald from a high tech security vault inside of an allegedly haunted castle while playing at being amateur television personality ghost hunters, they were going to need full concentration throttles ahead.
âWhat about me?â Nina pouted.
âYou, my dear,â replied Kaz liltingly, holding up a skimpy yet utterly expensive looking gown, âare tonightâs distraction.â
Nina grinned devilishly, but Matthias only groaned.
âLetâs get to work.â Kaz murmured.
nothing, really, dies. nothing dies. nothing dies.
For @kanejweek Day 2: Ambiguity (life & death, cold-blooded)
Pairing: Kaz x Inej
Warnings: Nothing much, discussion about death and some slight physical intimacy
somewhat inspired by this quote
Inej wrapped her arms tightly around her child as the wind whistled over the rooftop of the Slat, only slightly pulling at their thick coats. They watched the barges pass in the distance, for a moment in silence. Then a tug on her sleeve.
âMama?â
Inej hummed. A question. Her fingers rubbed warmth into the back of her daughterâs tiny hands as they huddled in the chill.
âWhy do everybody die?â
Inej suppressed a sigh, her eyes running the length of the distant gondol that carried the dead out of the city to the Reaperâs Barge, the sight of which no doubt had prompted her childâs inquiry.
âWell, Chaaru.â The Suli word for my dear. âThere truly is no death, only transformation.â
âMore Suli proverbs?â The voice was rough stone.
sankta inej
For @kanejweek Day 1: Mythology (gods & saints, soulmates)
Pairing: Kaz/Inej
Warnings: none really, just some slight physical intimacy, but barely
Inej stretched her limbs absently as she took the stairs one at a time, a sense of peace settling within her at finally being back in the Van Eck mansion, making her movements deliberately slow. But her steps were still soundless as she trekked across the plush carpeted hallway towards the muffled voices coming from the bedroom at the end of the hall.
âTell me the one about Sankta Inej again, Papa,â came the high pitched voice that never failed to set her heart to stuttering, accompanied as always by the kind of smile that made her cheeks hurt.
Happy Pride from the entire Watcher Team!
