Gilgamesh and Enkidus reaction upon learning that Enkidu is set to die is them mourning and cursing the gods and their situation, but not a single time does the thought of fighting back or barganing with the gods come to them. For several tablets do they mourn and grieve without thinking of it even a single time. In later tablets Gilgamesh does attempt to revive/save him, but only after quite a while of them accepting that this was an immovable occurrence and could not be changed.

It's so interesting compared to the Greek/Roman trope of mortals constantly rebelling against the gods as their first reaction or on a whim (regardless of them winning or losing or not). To the people of the time of when it was written, the words of gods are so absolute it doesnt even register to them as something that could be rebelled against.

The thing about character design theory is I really think we shouldn’t just keep reinforcing our “this is what a sneaky and untrustworthy character looks like, this is what a threatening and intimidating character looks like, this is what an innocent character worth protecting looks like, this is what a smart and competent character looks like, this is what a man looks like vs what a woman looks like” conventions like they’re innate human wiring that we tap into scientifically and not like, heavily societal
