Lucas Sinclair appreciation post because Pookie is CRIMINALLY. Underrated. I hate the way black characters are ignored and disregarded is some fandoms and he is genuinely such a cool character.
It actually makes me so angry how much Lucas/Caleb is ignored in the fandom. He is so much more than just Max’s goofy boyfriend he is his own character and we need to talk about him more often. I love him sm.
Lucas is one of my favorite characters in the entire show. He is so genuinely sweet and cares so much about his friends and is so so loyal. He doubts at first, but once he’s in, he’s 110% apart of the plan.
Also, the way he just looks at Max?? That’s his person. His soulmate. His everything. He will do anything for her. If she dies, he better die too because I can’t imagine a world with only one of them in it.
MY GAY WEIRD RETIRED LOSERS ARE TOGETHER AGAIN I MIGHT CRY
Hot take which I might get eaten alive for.
Some of you people like Twisting Tiger only because you love to fetishise Asian people. *Oh but he’s so petite and small.* You sound exactly like a fetishizer. Next!
I can not stress this enough but the show didn’t do Rasta much justice in giving him the needed spotlight or any type of character development and I’m so tired of it. The same man, mind you, who would absolutely sacrifice himself for the wellbeing of his teammates, who still played despite being in grave pain all for the sake of not wanting to let his team down. And yet how many episodes did he get where it solely focused on him and him alone as a character? 3 - and two of those didn’t really emphasis much on him until the later half of them.
And to say that he doesn’t need a specific reason to grow further because he’s already the perfect captain is absurd. Nobody is perfect, it's literally impossible to be so.
If constantly needing to watch out for his own teammates wasn't one of his biggest issues, then I think self-doubt sure is. Like in "Pitch Imperfect" where he was so worried that he was the one causing the team to fail so miserably, so much so that he even wanted to willingly sub himself out due to it.
The fear of not wanting to let his team down, this not being good enough to lead them attitude, it's a real shame that they didn't do more with that in mind because I find that that was what drove his character so well. It showed issues of his that he doesn't seem to want to come to light.
"Dancing Rasta on Ice" was possibly the only one that I remember where this played a huge role in, it was the only episode that specifically focused more on an in-depth level with him, what with his injury and his fear of getting replaced with Big Bo. His entire mind was solely just on proving that he could do it. So much that he ended up forgetting the lesson he was taught by the monk. Only then did he realise in the process that he was neglecting himself, only thinking of pulling through despite the injury and not on his team. Sure he was frustrated at not playing as well as he wanted to but it's the fact that he later on admitted himself that he couldn't do anything more. It was less of "I have to do everything to prove that I'm the perfect fit for the captain position" and turned more of into a, "if this is it now, I won't fight it or argue against it, if it's what's right for the team then I will have to accept it, even if it means losing my position." he wasn't even bitter, he put his complete trust in Big bo and his teammates and just left the pitch like that. That ending literally makes me cry so much. It was the perfect start to the show and I hate the writers for not wanting to take more time to maybe expand or even build off of his character.
Rasta is also the distorted mirror of Skarra. For those to see.
