I cannot believe that in 2026 there are still people even within the trans community saying that nonbinary people are misogynistic for not being women/feminine and not wanting to be considered women/feminine. (There are plenty of nonbinary people who ARE women or femininely-gendered, whose identities are also never respected by the way because society wants everyone to be totally 100% always only one binary gender, and there are also plenty of us who are NOT, because being nonbinary is not one thing.) Someone saying “I’m nonbinary and was AMAB but that doesn’t mean I’m transfem, please stop assuming I am, I want my nonbinary identity to be recognized” is not transmisogynistically distancing themself from trans women and does not need you to correct them on their own identity. Someone saying “I was AFAB but that doesn’t mean I’m a woman; I’m nonbinary and I want that to be recognized” is not expressing internalized misogyny and does not need you to correct them on their own identity.

*Nonbinary people do not need binary people to correct us on our own identities.*

Argh, remembering all over again the way Rebels re-introduced the horrible dreadful horror back into the Deception/Rako Hardeen arc in Clone Wars, which itself was inspired by the classic Kafka-esque horror film The Cube (1997), and giving myself fannish emotions…

So… The Box - The Cube-inspired structure that Dooku forces all of the bounty hunters through, in the course of the Palpatine-manipulating-everyone-for-his-own-amusement horrorshow that is TCW? 

(But especially the Deception-arc, where Palpatine’s manipulations of the Jedi into that dreadful situation were so successful a large percentage of the fandom don’t seem to understand the fact that Palpatine literally wasn’t allowing the Jedi any good choices, or the realities of undercover work in wartime?)

The horror comes back full-circle in Rebels, when during the Empire-era, they’re shown re-using The Box technology to catch force-sensitives. Using a very familiar set of tests. Probably relying on the very data Palpatine obtained by forcing Obi-Wan into providing during his own run-through of The Box as Rako Hardeen, when he could not overtly use the force or risk breaking cover. Force-sensitives who likely don’t even realise they are force-sensitive… Kids who’re probably then carted off directly to the Inquisitor programme, or worse… 

Fantastic bit of truly horrific world-building in two nominally kids’ shows! (I kinda hope Obi-Wan remained unaware of just what he’d indirectly become responsible for, but equally, for the sake of the delicious horrible angst part of me hopes this gets brought up again in the Obi-Wan Kenobi show…)
