it really is kind of interesting how attached people are to the idea of the improvised line and the genuine reaction in film. nearly every single famous moment or line has some sort of claim floating around that it wasn't in the script and was either made up on the spot by an actor or was sprung as a surprise on the actors to get their 'real' reaction. you know, sometimes people do come up with good lines in advance and write them down, and sometimes people can pretend to be have a convincing emotional response on screen

The worst types of cookbook:

The Ottolenghi - it is vital that you use 1g of this very expensive ingredient. It comes from a 500g bag with a one-week shelf life.

The time machine - 15-minute recipe! First, leave to marinate overnight...

The dishwasher - one-pot recipe! Now decant your ingredients and wipe out your pot. And again. And again. And again.

Fun fact, nicotine is the most addictive chemical known to man. Yes, more addictive than heroin. Most people who try to quit - and most of us addicts will try to quit at least once - can't do it permanently.

And if you do quit? The physical dependency on nicotine will go away in a month or two, sure. But the psychological addiction will always be there for the rest of your life. There is no cure for addiction. Just like there's no cure for throat cancer, lung cancer, heart disease, or emphysema.

Take it from a long-time nicotine addict. The absolute best possible option is to NEVER START.

I've never read Homestuck but there's a type of media that I call "a Homestuck" and I think it's a useful categorization. The main criteria are:

long enough that the time investment is a serious barrier to entry

irrevocably changes your personality

brings something genuinely unique to the table. there is no real substitute for reading/playing/watching it in its entirety

Fate/Stay Night is a Homestuck. Worm is a Homestuck. When They Cry is a Homestuck.

Undertale has cultural impact similar to a Homestuck at first glance, but the fact that it's a pretty short and accessible game means that you don't get the particular mix of sunk cost fallacy and an intimate experience with a piece of media that results in you needing to connect with others who have already put in the time investment. You can buy your friends Undertale and expect them to play it if they're not too busy; telling a friend to read Homestuck is giving them a quest that, if accepted, will spark an odyssey. to read someone's Homestuck is an act of love without true equivalent.
