Do you ever get book-blocked by life. Like yes you want to read this awesome book but you have to get the grocery shopping done and you had to stay late at work and there’s chores to do and you never get the chance to sit down and read that day.

i think more of you need to embrace the fact that a character can be a favorite BECAUSE they are a freakish loathsome hateful black-hearted despicable creature, NOT in spite of it
to be honest there has never been a fictional character i’ve actually wanted to date. like. i want them to date each other. i don’t want myself as a person to be involved in this scenario whatsoever. what would i add to this narratively? what’s my thematic purpose in the narrative? immersion breaking.

No no you don't understand! I want to watch this show/movie, read this book, listen to this podcast, etc.! But I must be in the right mindset and the exact head space to begin, or I just can't!
I have never understood the concept of "relatable" as a prerequisite for finding fiction appealing. I don't want the protagonist to be relatable to me. I want them to be a fucked-up incomprehensible little weirdo so I can study them like a bug.

You want me to invest in the stock market? The thing that killed Kaz Brekker’s brother?
I think part of the issue with how YA books are written and marketed these days is just a fundamental lack of respect for teenagers, both from the writers themselves and publishers. It is plain as day that these people see teens as vapid, brainless sponges who will consume anything without a thought or care in the world. They don’t want to give teens things that they can think about and analyze with their friends because they do not see teenagers as real life, intelligent human beings with their own thoughts and feelings on the world around them. And I think that is both sad and disgusting.

When You Manage To Finish A Book In One Sitting
My favorite thing about reading adult fantasy is just accepting that the first hundred pages or so isn’t going to make any fucking sense. You won’t be able to keep the characters or the places straight and you’ll have very few hints regarding the plot but by the time you hit page 200 you’re all in.
Anyway my stance on fiction and online harassment is shaped by the fact that I had unrestricted access to the local library from about the age of 8 and read quite a few books with fucked up content that I might have been a bit too young for and that caused absolutely no long-term damage to my mental health; meanwhile I was bullied mercilessly by my peers for several years and I’m still dealing with after-effects of that.
i’m okay with fictional men becoming unhinged over the loves of their lives actually
