watched the lost boys 1987? want more media with the same characters? here’s what you can do:
⚰︎ watch the 2 sequel movies (fan reception is not great unfortunately but it gives a little more information on what happened to the rest of the characters after the movie)
⚰︎ read the 1987 novelization of the movie (which i highly recommend. it’s a very easy read and it re-contextualizes some scenes in the movie)
⚰︎ you can find and read the 1st draft of the movie script on the internet archive (this is the version of the movie where the lost boys are aged significantly younger, david is a character named peter, and star is just another lost boy)
⚰︎ also find and read the final script of the 1987 movie (just another way to consume the movie without rewatching it for the millionth time. it includes deleted scenes that didn’t make it to the final cut)
⚰︎ read the 6 spin off comics set in the same universe of the movie (i have not read them so i can’t speak to how well they are but i believe they’re focused on the side characters)
⚰︎ the new re-imagined musical (it’s technically in a different universe and the full musical is not available unless you see it live but a couple songs are out as singles and the rest will be on streaming later in july)
⚰︎ listen to the official soundtrack of the 1987 film (in the same vein as the musical. it’s not very long but some pretty good bangers on there that you could add to your daily rotation)
⚰︎ find character playlists (you can listen to playlists created on places like spotify/youtube that attempt to capturing the general vibe of a particular character to help you listen to new music in association to the movie)
⚰︎ buy official merch (there’s not a lot aside from some shirts, other clothes, posters, stickers, autographed items but it’s better than nothing)
⚰︎ buy unofficial merch (you can buy art from fan artists to 1) support your local artists and 2) get some really cool merch ranging anywhere from shirts, art prints, posters, plushies, acrylic stands, and keychains)
⚰︎ make your own fan content! (this step is a little more difficult but it includes anything from drawing your own art, making playlists, creating tiktok edits and moodboards, making kandi bracelets or keychains, even making your own character zine etc. it’s never too late to pick up a new skill or hobby)
⚰︎ lastly, to fill the empty lost boys void in your heart: fanfics, fanfics, fanfics! (there are so many excellent fanfics out there that you should look into or if you can’t find one, write it yourself! fanfics are all about exploring characters, themes, relationships, scenarios, and capturing the fun you first experienced when interacting with your favorite media. keep the fun going by reading fanfics or engaging with other fanworks)
