If your lover lives in Hong Kong and cannot get to Chicago, it will be necessary for you to go to Hong Kong. Perhaps you will spend your life there, and never see Chicago again. And you will, I assure you, as long as space and time divide you from anyone you love, discover a great deal about shipping routes, airlines, earthquake, famine, disease, and war. And you will always know what time it is in Hong Kong, for you love someone who lives there. And love will simply have no choice but to go into battle with space and time and, furthermore, to win.
James Baldwin, Nothing Personal
I think what drives me crazy more than anything else is “maybe it’ll turn out this time” because unlike what Hadestown would have you believe we’ve actually been trying to “fix” the ending of Orpheus and Eurydice for as long as that myth has been told.. we have been trying to puzzle out a way in which they get their happy ending.. Gluck gave them a happy ending in 1762 because how could you listen to Orpheus’s lament and not let him take her home with him!!! The game Hades has them end happily together again!!! Even in the original myth they are reunited in death!!! Who could listen to their tragedy and not try and make a better world for them!!!!!!
just watched a star trek episode about a planet that relied so heavily on it's computer system that they all forgot the basics of their own knowledge. and that allowed them to miss the fact that they were being posioned with radiation and nearly ending their civilization. because they couldn't use their own knowledge to figure things out. i bring this up for no reason in particular
Actually no how the fuck is it august
Pack it up everyone you’ll never be this funny
Happy “how the fuck is it august” to those who celebrate!

[ID: A comic interpretation of a scene from Hadestown. In panel 1, Persephone pleads with Hades, saying, "He's just a boy in love, Hades, what are you afraid of??" In panel 2, Orpheus, his face bloodied, is waving a copy of a book by Marx and pointing at a white board labeled, "Seize the means of production!" Additional notes on the board say, "Trickle down = scam!", "Bread AND roses!", and "Unionising 101". The workers are watching attentively and taking notes. Eurydice is smiling directly into the camera, as if to say, "That's my man". End ID]

I think one of the gentlest things in the world is when a friend just gets your weird little brain. like you say half a sentence and they finish it. you reference something incredibly niche from seven years ago and they’re already nodding. they understand your strange vocabulary for emotions that don’t have real words yet. it’s being seen and known and still loved. maybe especially because you’re known. god. what a gift.
finally i have learned how to type laser sounds//
