actually kicking my feet rn at the gym imagining a fic where Dick is a detective with Blüdhaven PD and he’s doing mandatory firearms training late at night in the shooting range and guess who comes to critique his stance and tease him about his accuracy? Mr. Red Hood himself, AKA Jason, AKA the one guy on the eastern seaboard who’s probably better than Dick (or Bruce) with a gun and actually, frustratingly, knows what the hell he’s talking about when it comes to firearms. Dick isn’t a pushover when it comes to shooting, far from it, but all Jason has to do is post up behind him and raise his eyebrows just a little, and it says enough. why are you pretending to be mediocre at this, Dickie. don’t you wanna show off a little?

So perusing @frownyalfred and a scene from one of the posts just got stuck in my head.

Batman, goes down on a group mission. Alien technology adhered to his head. The league tries to no avail to wake him up. He’s the only one who can has the codes/tools to get them out of whatever room they are trapped in. Other captives shake their heads and sigh. After hours one of them finally tells them it’s useless. The device locks them in their best memory. You can’t yank them out. No one is strong enough to overcome that.

Nightwing, Red Robin, Robin, Red Hood, Orphan, Spoiler and Signal all share glances. The only ones of them know to be associates of Batman are Red Robin and Robin. There is a clearly silent fight going on. Pointing and waiving at each other. Eventually Red Hood throws up his hands. Nightwing smugly folder his arms. Robin clearly rolls his eyes even through the mask.

Next thing the league knows a group of hero’s that are mostly auxiliary members converge on the corner with Batman, Wonder Woman and Superman. Green Lantern moves to block them. But upon confrontation with Robin… just decides - nah whatever. They won’t kill him, I do not get paid enough to handle this shit.

Before anyone can ask or say anything, Red Hood shrieks at the top of his lungs - “Dad!” Absolutely none of the league have any clue why this giant, anti hero, dude screamed for his dad. He wasn’t even injured! But he sounds terrified.

Batman bolts upright and the device glows gold before cracking and falling off.

Nightwing, suddenly right next to Batman is the first to speak “B- he’s fine. He’s not injured!” And shoves Batman back down. Batman lets himself be pushed and does not fight.

Queue the league staring in shock trying to compute WTF just happened.

Fiction is not reality.

You can enjoy things in fiction that would be awful in the real world. Like playing a murderhobo in a game! In the real world, being or supporting a murderer-thief would be pretty damn awful, while in the game it's just good fun. Same with anything else you choose to do with the pixels on the screen, like kinks that don't affect anyone real, so they're okay in fiction, but would be pretty damn bad in real life.

No one else is responsible for your online experience. They are required not to harass you, but they are not and never will be obligated to not post about ships, kinks, or tropes you dislike just to avoid you seeing them. It's up to you to blacklist words or phrases, block tags, or even block users as needed to avoid seeing content that upsets you.

No one can force you to read anything against your consent. Any content you don't like seeing can be instantly avoided by closing out of the offending post/fic.

You are not owed an online experience free of discomfort.

Nothing that happens in your imagination can ever make you a bad person. Words you write or read about fictional characters will never make you a bad person.

Fiction is a safe way to explore horrifying or confusing concepts. Therapists agree that fiction, even (or especially) about taboo topics is a good coping mechanism, especially, but not exclusively, for trauma survivors. Fiction is to adults what play therapy is to children. This doesn't stop being true if the work in question is of a sexual nature.

Sex isn't an inherently worse or better motivation than anything else. A work written to create feelings of arousal isn't dirty, shameful, or in any way less pure than works written to entertain, provoke moral questions, or for other reasons. And worth noting is that multiple purposes can exist in the same story, especially fanfiction.

You aren't entitled to an explanation for why someone reads, writes, or otherwise enjoys certain works, kinks, tropes, ships, etc.

My tepid Jason Todd take is that he should be the tactician in his team ups more often than not. One of the things that really stuck out to me in his Robin run/early post resurrection era is that he knows when he needs stack the deck in his favor and does a very good job at it. Less "Jason Todd runs into danger and needs to be saved bc he's Reckless™" and more "everyone assumes he runs in without thinking but in reality he already figured out what schemed he needs to get out of this relatively unscathed"

So my favourite version of the Nightwing name origin is from Action Comics #886, where Nightwing is a dragon-like deity from a Kryptonian myth. He was created by Rao "to seek out evil and corruption that hides in the shadows; to pursue it and destroy it."

Very cool.

Anyway, it gave me an idea for an AU: what if, through some comic book shenanigans, Dick became the vessel for Nightwing of Krypton? ...You know, kind of Naruto-style? (Because apparently those old hyperfixations never really leave you xD)

Maybe it would have happened when he took on the name? Idk I just think it'd be neat

You know how the Robins were trained to be able to fight enemies way bigger than them, since they started really young and also were taught by Batman (a Very Big Guy)?

It just occured to me that the reverse is also true: Batman is very good at fighting very short enemies.

I wonder if it ever came up.

Like if someone was trying to use their smaller size to their advantage and surprise Batman but it's just. Impossible. There is no move his little hypercompetent gremlins didn't already try against him.
