I just got a video on my feed about the harms it causes, and there was a woman in the comments going, "but it's healthy if you both consent" you think you can just tell your own brain not to get hypoxic injuries?

the damage potential of strangulation goes beyond hypoxic injury. the hyoid bone is just under your chin, and it's about as fragile as a wishbone. even pressure that isn't enough to cut off someone's airway can break the hyoid bone, which is a life threatening injury.

strangulation can also cause carotid artery dissection, where the inner lining of the artery tears lengthways, allowing blood to pool in a kind of pseudoaneurysm, which is the most common cause of massive stroke in people under 50, as the dissection throws clots in a direct path to the brain.

a blood choke can throw a clot even without dissecting the carotid, if bloodflow is partially obstructed long enough for a clot to form and enter the brain once pressure is released.

these injuries are not dramatic in the moment. most people who lose consciousness due to hypoxia do not even recall doing so- they are not even aware they were ever unconscious at all. it occurs in under ten seconds if blood flow is obstructed. the person will often experience something called an anoxic seizure, which can make it appear as if they are still conscious, as they will still be moving, rather than limp and unresponsive, and anoxic seizures during sexual activity have been mistaken for orgasm by the strangling party. even in brief unconsciousness of less than a minute, undetectable to either party, the hypoxic insult to the brain is serious, and causes permanent damage. this damage is cumulative too, and worsens with repeated insults.

symptoms of a dissection, stroke, hypoxic injury or hyoid bone fracture may not present themselves immediately, either. it can be hours, days, even months later if it's a dissection. the thyroid can also be injured, and lead to permanent thyroid difficulties. the trachea and larynx can be damaged- some people have lost the ability to speak.

the structures in the neck are some of the most delicate in the human body. any amount of strangulation is regarded as a likely medical emergency in medicine. i was kept under observation for two days after a case of accidental ligature strangulation when i got my neck caught in a curtain cord as a child. and i didn't even have bruises or lose the ability to breathe. there is no safe amount of strangulation. even if you can still breathe, it can still kill you, or cause permanent damage.

it's a lot harder to separate from men in your life when you have sex with them due to the hormonally bonding nature of it. in order to encourage the pain of pregnancy and childbirth, your brain throws you massive amounts of happiness and bonding hormones like dopamine and serotonin so you want to keep being around that person and others like him.

so if you refrain, you may be more likely to better see the flaws in the men around you. think about how so many women have rose tinted glasses and ignore red flags, but once they're out of the relationship they see some, and the longer out of the relationship they are, the more they see and the redder they see them.

people have the same with close friends and family; because of those bonds, turn a blind eye to harm to themselves and even harm to others (think of how communities and families will cover for predators and abusers and how strong and global that behaviour is). human beings are social animals where every part of us is biologically wired to form lifelong tight connections that are ride or die. this gets exploited under patriarchy to control and influence women, relying on human nature and our kindness and desire for social structure, assimilation and acceptance.

so, to create a life where you're less likely to cause harm to yourself and other women around you, it's a great idea to form connections with women in social circles, hobbies, sports, schooling, work, etc. by building that female community, it means that there is less of that loneliness that pushes women towards men. society prioritises romantic relationships so much that much of the 'loneliness epidemic' is a loss of friend making while ending up in incompatible and unhappy romantic relationships, or a big fear of being single at any point in time. by decentering men, it migrates the primary bond currently provided by romantic and sexual relationships over to women, meaning you're less likely to remain in harmful relationships, and avoid relationships all together with the understanding that 99% of the time, it'll do more bad than good.

and clearly, it's already working, where even the women who have never heard of radical feminism and want to date men are heightening their standards and threatening the current social structure to the point where we have a surge in the alt right because men are angry at losing control and not having women serve them. their behaviour in reaction to that in turn further radicalises the women.

ta-da: described an issue without misogyny or black pill cynicism, provided likely mechanics based on science, provided a solution that is easily achievable for most women as a first step, and provided a reality check of the positive change happening, even if it isn't the purest actions possible for the highest goal trying to be achieved via direct action.

Hi! I’m writing a paper on prostitution (I’m in favour of the Nordic model) but my professor told me I should focus more on the POV of the sex workers themselves. This undermines their willingness “to adhere to the rules and complicates the combat against trafficking in human beings.”

New Zealand’s Prostitution Law Review Committee found that a majority of prostituted persons felt that the decriminalization act “could do little about violence that occurred.”

The Committee further reported that abusive brothels did not improve conditions for prostituted individuals; the brothels that “had unfair management practices continued with them” even after the decriminalization.

Evaluations have found that regulation of prostitution creates a façade of legitimacy that hides sexual exploitation, and that brothels can “function as legalized outlets for victims of sex trafficking.”
