Ive been so busy lately, I've been remiss in posting my capstone sweater "FO pics." I use quotes because i did a LITTLE more work on the back before i handed it in, so there more like "almost FO pics." I'm not sure I've ever been more proud of myself! It's been a long six- months with this thing and now i don't know what to do with myself at night, but now i know what I'm capable of. I'm capable of everything i thought i was, and that's a damn good feeling!!!! 🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗 Thank you to EVERYONE who supported me in this, even in the smallest way. The amount of support and encouragement i received throughout the whole process was overwhelming. It made me appreciate how lucky i am to have so many wonderful people in my life. Some zoos only take old animals to where they are given an easy life. Their maintenance is funded by people coming into the zoo.

They weren’t captured for this purpose, they probably weren’t captured at all, it’s called rescuing. 

This is cool.

This is not abuse, it’s actually exercise if you think about it.

Zoos are not prisons. Zoos allow us to rescue animals, research them, and protect them from hunters and the dangers that we, as humans, impose on them.

I’m so done with all the shit about zoos on my fucking dash. 

Zoos literally save animals every day so why don’t you do your freaking research.

Animals come to zoos as a result of 

being born captive

getting injured in the wild and rescued to live a healthy life in captivity

being rescued from black market dealers, private collectors, or the like who decide that they can no longer care for the animals or who had been illegally keeping the animals

being in a breeding program to increase their numbers because the animal is endangered in the wild

If you knew anything about tigers at all, you’d know that they are endangered in the wild due to poaching and hunting. It is of utmost importance that their numbers increase, or they will go extinct within the next fifty years. I don’t know what zoo this is so I don’t know their reputation, but the tigers look healthy, and this tug-of-war is good for them because some animals get stressed in zoos when they are bored. This isn’t solely to entertain zoo guests, it is to give the tigers something fun to do.

Zoos do not snatch animals from the wild without a good reason. If you want to protest animal captivity, go to SeaWorld and protest the orcas being kept there, they are far too large to belong in such cramped spaces and they are solely kept for entertainment.

Tigers play just like domestic cats play with each other, this is for the educational benefit of the visitors and the enrichment benefit of the tigers. Also word to the comment above. Tigers are endangered to the point that they cannot repopulate themselves in the wild, they need the help of captive institutions like zoos, where they live carefree lives free of stress and can breed and birth without fear that other predators and mating competitors will come along and eat their cubs. Furthermore, these tigers are NOT thin. In fact, one of the ones in the large group looks borderline obese. People who know nothing about animals need to stop talking about animals.

1. My sister told me that her vet told her, because people are accustomed to seeing pets slightly (or more than slightly) overweight, people who see an animal that is at a healthy weight for its species and age tend to assume the animal is underweight, and unless the person is a vet they don’t really have grounds to tell. 

2. Only if they’re a crappy zoo that does not adhere to ethical animal-keeping practices, in which case report them to the SPCA or something. 

3. Yes, poaching wild animals is unethical and should not be done, but that is not what a responsible zoo does. Also, look at the second picture where the tigers are crowding around the rope. They want to play with it. 

4. Playing tug-of-war with a tiger sounds awesome and gives automatic bragging rights even if you lose. In a similar story, the Kamine Zoo, in Japan, gave jeans to the lions, tigers, and bears, so they can shred them, and then the zoo auctioned them to people who like the distressed denim look and wanted to have a cool story to go with it and to support animal care. Again, it gives the animal a toy to play with, granting mental stimulation and physical activity, which in turn increases emotional health.

THIS is why national healthcare is so important. My insurance has lapsed between jobs and I've had to cash in my 401k to cover myself and my spouse in the mean time.
