Okay so I’m rewatching Buffy for the nth time and I just noticed something about episode 4.

Like, I remembered the plot well enough- you don’t forget “it’s scary to fall in love with my substitute teacher because what if they’re secretly a praying mantis who wants to eat my face.”

But what I didn’t quite put together is that the teacher who gets killed in the beginning of the episode was probably the only person on the show who believed in Buffy as Buffy Summers and not Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Like, everyone who knows Buffy Summers thinks she’s a screw up- bad grades, no commitment to homework, skipped classes, got in fights, burned down a gym, was expelled from her past school. Only those who know about the Slayer know to overlook these blights as necessary to her fight against evil. Normal people, those who don’t know, always think she’s a screw up- even her mom.

This teacher on episode four who dies before the intro saw Buffy Summers. Saw the sharp girl in the back of the class, quick-witted, good on her feet, with all her flaws and blights and said, ‘don’t listen to anyone’s negative opinion about you. I see your potential. I see your ability. Put in the effort and show them how well you can succeed because I know you can.’

Giles is good enough- he becomes a father figure even- but it’s hinged in his belief of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, not for Buffy Summers. The way his guidance and care for Willow, for example, isn’t clouded by his belief that she must be something in the fight against the end times. Buffy the Vampire Slayer to Giles must shape up- and while played for comical relief, this is demonstrated in his inability to understand her desire to be Normal Teen Girl who tries out for cheerleading and skips fights to go to prom.

Buffy only mattered to people, only felt like she succeeded, as Buffy the Vampire Slayer- except for this random guy who dies 5 minutes into the episode and is never mentioned again.

And I think Buffy being robbed of that genuine belief in her is what comes back to get her after college since nobody ever says that to her again.

She deserved someone who saw her value as a person. He changed so much for her from that short conversation. It sucks that she lost the first adult to really see her especially so quickly 💔

I NEED everybody who watches desperate housewives, ally mcbeal, devious maids and shows like that to watch mistresses. ik it would be more popular if it had a different, non-generic name but it’s better than you think it would be. it’s about these women in their 30s so it’s good for ppl who are in their mid 20s-30s. watch the pilot and tell me what you think!

it’s started in 2013 so it’s pretty modern.

if it’s bad and you hate it, don’t blame me! I’m only on episode 5 and I’m watching it right after desperate housewives.

Here are the things I love most about Psych:

There is a general lack of sexism and misogyny amongst the characters. The women are portrayed as competent as the men and as accomplished as the men. They show platonic male/female friendships and relationships without trying to force something romantic between characters.

There is a general lack of homophobia. Shawn doesn't get offended when people think he and Gus are together. Shawn and Gus are portrayed perfectly in the sense that there is no toxic masculinity. They are open with their love and friendship and don't "no homo" it.

They don't push the marriage or baby rhetoric. Shawn and Juliet having an open conversation about deciding not to want children and just have dogs, and not feeling pressure to be married until the 1st movie is so refreshing, and even then, they didn't make it a big deal. The women in Psych are written for more than being love interests.

They don't downplay Shawn's trauma around his childhood, especially as it contrasts with Gus's more stable home life. Shawn and Henry's relationship feels (to me) like the epitome of "I can understand how and why you did what you did, but that doesn't mean I have to forgive you for it." Likewise, they don't minimize the trauma Juliet had over Ying. They never tell her to "get over it" or try and tell her it wasn't that bad.

They show that what makes a villain isn't black and white. The villains are complicated, like Yang and Desperaux. They're not all bad, but they're also not all good.

All of the storylines with animals are just *chefs kiss.*

The writing is so good. It's comedic but has feelings. It is a safe space. All of the characters grow throughout the course of the show. They don't just stay stagnant.

Anyway. I love it.

i love that for as weird and fucked up as Woody can be, he is canonically a genius in forensics.

Like this pan, poly, cuckholded, pathetic, lives in a trailer, flirts with his boss (whose long term marriage and pregnancy he was supposedly fully unaware of for like 2 years), absolute mess of a man really is the best corner one could ever possibly get in California.

This man is so good someone committed murder and framed someone else just to try to prove they could be as good as him, not even better than him.

TLDR; i love you Woody, even with your 356700 metric tons of kinks and baggage

apologies psych, I was not familiar with your game. I stopped watching you for awhile bc I thought the show was getting annoying but I’m glad I started watching again.

I’ve been binging it for the past few days bc it’s leaving netflix and I’m having a good time. I’m on s6e11 and it’s so funny and fun. Carlton’s getting haunted and his character gets to act outside of his usual stoicism. Carlton’s been having some character growth. good for him

Suits LA is so fucking disappointing. My expectations were low but ohmygod. I’ve watched episode 1 and now I’m watching episode 2. Erica’s junior Leah is the best character so far. She has a personality and ambition, can’t wait to see where her character goes. The second best is Erica (currently for looks and strategic thinking). The guy who’s supposed to be this universe’s Harvey Specter doesn’t measure up at all. Whatever you liked about Harvey just forget it bc this guy’s a copy of a copy.

Yk I was very confused when I heard that there was gonna be a new Suits bc the whole concept of the first one is that Mike wasn’t educated as a lawyer but still became a kickass lawyer bc of his eidetic memory. Surely the show runners weren’t going to copy that storyline right?? They didn’t but they did copy the theme song. 🤦🏾‍♀️

Suits was a solid tv show, a moment of exceptional characters who fit together really well. They had chemistry and personality! The suits la show runners are unsuccessfully trying to make this new iteration a basic law drama and it pales so badly compared to the original show.

I need to stop hate watching it bc then it’s gonna be renewed. Besides there are much better shows on…like severance.
