Before she reached his office, Anya left, leaving Belladonna to face her father alone. The door to his room stood out from the other ones, with the diamond studded door knob contrasting the African blackwood door. She knocked twice, and almost immediately heard him say, “Get in Belladonna.” Shit. He was pissed.
She pulled herself together, smoothening the creases on her trousers, and opened the door.
Logan Hadley sat behind his desk, a computer half-covering his face, so Belladonna could only see the fury in his eyes when she entered.
As the door shut behind her, there was silence, only the sound of the ticking grandfather clock between them.
“So, should I begin, or will you?” Belladonna asked impatiently.
Logan’s eyebrow twitched. “I will. There are a series of questions I need you to answer, and from there, we will decide what action must be taken.”
Belladonna nodded. “Of course, dad.”
“Firstly, who is the mole? Secondly, why did you ever trust this person? Thirdly, do you have any idea what consequences we are bearing now?” Logan’s voice was deadly calm, which only meant his anger was through the roof, but even that wasn’t enough to scare Belladonna. No matter how much she messed up, her father would never punish her. He’d always say, the guilt and shame was punishment enough.
“The mole is Katherine Kent. I trusted her because she was supposed to be a friend, and well, clearly I made a mistake. And I am extremely aware of the consequences, which is why I am already handling it.”
Logan got up from his desk, making Belladonna strangely aware of how much taller he was than her. “You’re taking care of it? Do tell me, my dear, how are you taking care of it?”
Belladonna paused, trying to find a euphemism for her coming actions, but was at a loss. Giving in, she replied, “Katherine Kent won’t be returning next semester. Not to Redford, or any other university for that matter.”
Was that a smile on Logan’s face? “Good. Now make it happen. I’ll take care of things from my end.”
