Jim Shooter, The Great Gatsby of Comics. RIP.
Do you think that Euron's primary function is to bring the White Walker threat down south, or have it intersect with it? I always did feel that one of the weaknesses of ASOIAF vs. LOTR was that the latter truly felt like the story of Middle-Earth rather than Gondor and Friends, whereas ASOIAF by privileging Winterfell and the North will feel like Stark and Friends (which is how the show feels in S7) rather than what Martin calls "the Matter of Westeros". Am I wrong in feeling that way?
Gods, I miss Phil HartmanâŠ
Anywho, I think you hit the nail on the head RE Euronâs structural role. Without him, the Second Battle for the Dawn would be entirely concentrated in the North, which I agree would feel deflating and undercut a lot of the thematic buildup RE the War of Five Kings distracting humanity from the fight against the Others, in which we must stand together. The Crowâs Eye is there to bring the âsea of bloodâ into the parts of Westeros farthest away from the Wall:Â
âPerhaps we can fly. All of us. How will we ever know unless we leap from some tall tower?â
âI saw towers by the sea, submerged beneath a black and bloody tide. That is where the heaviest blow will fall.â
As Iâve said before, I think that âheaviest blowâ is Euron blowing the Horn of Joramun from atop the Hightower (the âleap from some tall towerâ) and bringing down the Wall from afar. This, along with his ongoing invasion of the Reach, is what will engage the south in the war for humanityâs survival, even as the army of the dead itself moves through the North and puts Winterfell under siege before (if Danyâs dream in ASOS holds true) being turned back at the Trident.Â
End of 2025 Survey, Lists, and Update
Would you consider enabling an RSS feed for your WordPress? (Or is there one already that I just can't see?)
I guess. I just don't know how to do it. Also, I don't know what RSS is. I'm a real cretin when it comes to web development.
Okay, a friend of mine on Bluesky helped me understand how RSS works. https://bsky.app/profile/postmordor.bsky.social/post/3ln3rysex2c2m

Some games I have played and wanted to write about for some time, gathered in one place.
With #DardevilBornAgain out on #DisneyPlus, I thought it was worth running the tape, to examine what exactly did #FrankMiller do to remake Kingpin from Lee-Romita's version. What was it about Daredevil comics that made Kingpin so unique and different from his role in Spider-Man comics.

Re-Examining Spider-Man 11: Class Relations
"Will Success Spoil #SpiderMan?" Re-Ex-SM is Back on Thanksgiving 2024! Looking at the #JohnRomitaSr era and how it connects to the superhero class struggle for love and better housing. Is Peter Parker a gold digger? The answer might surprise you!
THIS POST IS DEDICATED TO STEVEN ATTEWELL, IN HOMAGE TO HIS SERIES: A PEOPLEâS HISTORY OF THE MARVEL UNIVERSE For as much as Spider-Man is described being a working-class superhero, class is rarely analyzed in these stories. On account of the demands of the genre, the mainstream superhero action-adventure, Peter Parker rarely expresses âclass consciousnessâ in any direct sense. The nature of theâŠ
(Last part!) This is why I was saying that most, albeit not all, of us live very similarly to our North American colleagues... And almost no one has got the clout to circumvent the issue by trademarking their own names like Don Rosa! 'xD Work for hire is still work for hire and (since, iirc, you've mentioned directors' rights to final reshoots and cuts) the editors and publishers can still change and/or censor anything they want without even notifying the original creators.
I guess.
Correction about European comic writers and artists having author rights: that's only true for the few ones who create their own wholly original series. The vast majority of comic authors work for hire using corporate-owned characters just like their North American colleagues, so they're only paid X euros per page without royalties, with the X value increasing along with their seniority.
Interesting. I've heard other stuff but I'll accept the caveat.

NOTES on Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes (2024)
I saw Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes (should really be âKingdom of the Apesâ but whatever) and I surprisingly liked it a lot. I also found a lot of reviews of the film missing the mark of the film. So Iâm going to explore it a bit here. SPOILERS. So about Planet of the Apes⊠Short answer, Iâve never been a fan of the franchise and the reason has everything to do with prejudice. I just donâtâŠ

So I heard this story second-hand, many years ago, but the gist was that a friend of a friend lived in what was generally considered a bad neighborhood, because he was a super poor college student and it was what he could afford. He didnât have any furniture, he just slept on a blanket on the floor and had a milk crate for a chair and like an old wire spool as a table. No TV, nothing in the fridge, no microwave, basically just bare walls and a roof to keep the weather off. So one day he comes home, and thereâs a man in his apartment, just standing there, with this look of utter amazement and horror on his face, and he turns to the guy whoâs just entered and says, âThis your place? âcause I broke in to rob you, but shit, man, you ainât got nothinâ. Wait here, Iâmâa be right back.â And the burglar left, leaving a puzzled college student alone in his empty apartment. But sure enough, the burglar came back a while later, and brought some friends, and they delivered a table, a couple of chairs, and a small TV. âI think I got you a bed, too, but that might take a couple days.â
So, the poor college student made some friends. And he didnât ask where they got the stuff.
Broglar.
@mylifeisamusicalreference
but um, where did the burglar acquire such items..?Â
DO NO QUESTION THE BROGLAR, LAURA
âAlthough not common on the Discworld there are, indeed, such things as anti-crimes, in accordance with the fundamental law that everything in the multiverse has an opposite. They are, obviously, rare. Merely, giving someone something is not the opposite of robbery; to be an anti-crime, it has to be done in such a way as to cause outrage and/or humiliation to the victim. So there is breaking-and-decorating, proffering-with-embarrassment (as in most retirement presentations) and whitemailing (as in threatening to reveal to his enemies a mobsterâs secret donations, for example, to charity). Anti-crimes have never really caught on.â (Terry Pratchett)

Is shrinkflation a new phenomenon, or and old phenomenon given a new name?
