i love reylo. like a lot. their dynamic is so good. enemies to lovers trope? soulmates? yin/yang? nailed it. i 100% believe that they’re the ones who are going to fucking bring balance to the force. in the movies, we’ve never seen two force users fall in love. it’s always just one force user and one non-force user. han/leia, anakin/padme? oh my god, if rey and ben end up together, they’re literally going to be the most powerful couple in the galaxy. isn’t that fucking cool? i mean, what’s a more satisfying end to the skywalker saga than that? anyway, we’ve all seen people talk about how toxic this relationship is—but is it really? sure, they were/are enemies. rey tried to kill kylo multiple times (for good reasons) and kylo is, you know, kylo. but holy fuck, the electricity between them is undeniable. the interrogation scene didn’t make me see kylo ren trying to torture rey for information—no, it made me see kylo ren being infatuated by a scavenger and then proceeds to get his ass kicked by her, who has no experience whatsover in using the force. i never saw any power imbalance between rey and kylo because there are none. i’ve only ever seen them as equals. and for sure, i think kylo has always seen rey as an equal, not as someone beneath him, especially when the skywalker lightsaber called to her. then, because of the force skype, they’ve grown to understand each other. shit, they became so soft after that. kylo “heir apparent to lord vader” ren having tears in his eyes while listening to rey’s story and reassuring her that she wasn’t alone anymore? rey replying that he wasn’t either? the hand touch????? rey fighting luke and shipping herself to try to bring him back to the light and ben killing his master to save her life?????? help me?????? also, when snoke said he was the one who bridged their minds together (i still don’t believe it), it was so obvious that their hearts broke???? and the last scene of them together. i just. it hurts. but it makes reylo different from other enemies-to-lovers ships because neither of them gave up their main beliefs just because they like someone and it erases the oh kylo’s just manipulating rey mentality because rey actually left him. rey did not tolerate his behavior and his decisions. also, kylo didn’t magically turn back to ben for her. if they were to change and/or decide to be together, it would not have rooted from manipulation or toxicity. they would have done it freely because they want to. basically, i love reylo because it has the chemistry and the angst and the capacity for fluff in the future and the tragedy and hopefully the happy ever after. i just. i love this pairing so much because there’s always more to it than it seems.
