Sunlight spills into the room through the filtered and yellow-tinted window. You tap your fingers on the side of your laptop keyboard impatiently.
Frustration gnawing at you from all sides.
First, the stifling feeling of not being able to write in the way you want to. That feeling that something is off or something is wrong. Your inner perfectionist refuses to move on until you get it just right.
Writing and deleting. Writing again. Repeat.
Visiting the backspace key is more frequent than anything else.
Second, the feeling of impending doom as the minutes’ tick by, drawing you closer and closer to your deadline. And you are nowhere near finished writing the first draft, let alone the finished piece.
Third, the sunlight that filters inside the room that usually made you feel at ease is now irritating you.
You glare at the sun, cursing it and telling it to go away in your head.

Standing in front of the mirror for the 20th time, (Y/N) debated whether to change her outfit. Her phone’s alarm rang and she freaked out.
‘Agh! How is it already 11:30?! I have to meet Shoto-kun at 12!’
One last look at the mirror before (Y/N) fled to gather her things.
She was out the door in 10 minutes, her parents chuckled at her rushing out.
Shoto was standing by the fountain at the park, scrolling through his phone. (Y/N) walked up to him.
“I hope I’m not late!” She said with a breathy smile.
The weather was getting colder since it was transitioning to winter soon.
“No, I’m just early,” Shoto replied.
“How long? Gosh, your hands are so cold!” (Y/N) said, taking his hands in hers.
The warmth of her hands seeped into his. His already red from the cold face, burned even redder.
(Y/N) realized what she was doing, let his hands go, and blushed. “How do I look?” She asked, desperate to change the subject.
She was wearing a warm grey sweater with intricate patterns, paired with a pair of black skinny jeans and combat boots. On top of the sweater was a light brown coat and a woolen scarf.
“You look...cute,” Shoto said quietly.
‘I know I asked him but hearing it makes me so happy…’
(Y/N) blurted out, “You too!”
Well, he did look amazing. He donned a beige sweater cardigan with a white undershirt and black pants and sneakers.
“Let’s go,” Shoto said, extending a hand out to (Y/N).
Blushing, she slowly took his hand. Walking hand in hand really made them seem like a real couple. It was still surreal to (Y/N) but it made her giddy.
Smile hidden under her scarf, she said, “Where are we going?”
“A secret,” Shoto said.
“Aww. Tell me, please!” (Y/N) pleaded.
“It’ll ruin the element of surprise,” Shoto said with a chuckle.
“Aw, fine.”
Shoto smiled leading the way. (Y/N) didn’t recognize the area they were in so she was excited. It was already like a dream to be going on a date with Shoto.
They stopped in front of a little restaurant called ‘Ambrosia’. Shoto pushed the door open and held it for (Y/N) as she walked inside admiring the interior. The place was absolutely ravishing. Hanging plants covered the ceiling along with beautiful warm-toned light bulbs. It looked stunning. The setting was cozy and romantic yet elegant. The walls were decorated with frames with quotes displayed and more plants hanging though they were gorgeous flowers along with fairy lights.
“Wow! This place is gorgeous,” (Y/N) said as they took a seat by the window.
“My mom recommended this place. She said the food was great and the atmosphere too,” Shoto said.
“Rei-san definitely knows the most aesthetic places. It’s so lovely,” (Y/N) replied, still admiring the place.
“Yeah,” Shoto said while he looked at (Y/N). To him, she was lovelier.
The waitress came over to give them the menu. (Y/N) thanked her with a smile. How he loved that smile. It made his heart full. He wanted her to smile for him.
After browsing the menu, they called the waitress back.
“I’ll have the carbonara, please,” (Y/N) said as she looked at the menu.
“Schnitzel and späetzle for me,” Shoto said.
“Will that be all?” The waitress asked after repeating their order.
“Yes, thank you,” Shoto replied.
The waitress whisked away and the couple talked as they waited for the food. The restaurant wasn’t very crowded so it was easy to talk without the loud bustle of a busy restaurant. It was quite peaceful along with the soothing classical music playing in the background. Romantic would also be a good way to describe the atmosphere between the two.
The food came rather fast and soon they were enjoying their own dishes.
“Mhm...This carbonara is fantastic!” (Y/N) said after taking the first bite.
“I’m glad you like it. My dish is quite enjoyable too,” Shoto said.
“I want to try some!” (Y/N) said, grinning.
Shoto smiled and took a good portion of schnitzel and späetzle on his fork and extended his fork to (Y/N). She blushed but took the bite since it was too appetizing to decline.
Truly, it was delicious. “Ah! This is so good!”
Smiling at the sight of her in food heaven, Shoto just looked at her. He found her stunning. Especially when she was happy.
Doing the same, (Y/N) let Shoto try her carbonara. Shoto leaned towards her fork and took the bite. Heart beating faster, she never thought even a person eating could make her feel so flustered.
Heart fluttering, she thought, ‘What have you done to me, Todoroki Shoto?’
After having a lovely lunch, they walked for a bit. (Y/N) didn’t think they had a destination in mind but Shoto did.
“I hope you like cats,” Shoto said as they approached a cat cafe.
“Oh my God! Are you for real? I adore cats! Hurry, let’s go in!” (Y/N) squealed, storming right in.
Shoto followed her with a smile on his face. How rare of him to be smiling so much. (Y/N)’s charm it seems.
“Aww! These kitties are so cute! I think I’m going to die,” (Y/N) said as she petted four cats at once.
Shoto ordered drinks and dessert for them and watched (Y/N) play with the cats while a lazy cat made himself comfortable in Shoto’s lap.
“Aww! He’s sleeping on your lap! Don’t move, okay? I need a picture of this!” (Y/N) said, fishing her phone from her pocket.
Shoto did as he was told, he couldn’t bear waking the cat anyway. He, too, loved cats. Hence why he chose to bring her here.
(Y/N) squealed at the picture she took. “This is going to be my lock screen wallpaper!”
Shoto smiled and carefully took out his phone, making sure the cat wasn’t disturbed.
(Y/N) was laughing as she petted the number of cats around her and fed them treats. Shoto took a couple of pictures of her with the cats. “Looks like you and the cats are going to be my wallpaper.”
(Y/N) blushed and gave Shoto a toothy grin. She was enjoying herself immensely. A kitty wonderland with her boyfriend. The two spent quite a bit at the cat cafe. (Y/N) was so sad to leave.
“Let’s come back next time. I like these cats already,” Shoto said as (Y/N)’s face lighted up happily.
“Yes! I’d love to see the kitties again!” (Y/N) replied.
While (Y/N) was grinning, Shoto entwined his hand with hers and said, “Let’s go to the place where we first met, yeah?”
“Yeah. Let’s go.”
Following the usual path to the place only they knew about. To the place where it all began.
The trees were mostly all orange, yellow and brown. Autumn leaves scattered on the ground and all over the bridge. Some falling on the surface of the river. The wind blew causing the leaves to fly in the sky and fall down.
(Y/N) let go of Shoto’s hand and tried to grab a leaf. After a few failed attempts, she managed to grab one.
Smiling, she stretched it towards Shoto who smiled back at her. He shuffled in his pocket, producing a small gift box.
Shoto walked towards her and said, “For you.”
“But I didn’t get you anything.”
“It’s a little something to thank you with. That day in spring when we met, I had no idea that we’d end up like this. My entire life has changed, thanks to you. You supported me throughout my family problems and it’s finally starting to get better. I’ve never been happier. I love you, (Y/N).”
Shoto said that with the heartiest smile (Y/N) had ever seen. Her hands flew to her mouth, trying to stop herself from crying. But a few stray tears escaped as she said, “No, thank you. You’ve given me unimaginable strength. After Miku, I really didn’t want to get personal with anyone again, afraid I’d lose them. That day, when we talked for the first time, changed everything. I didn’t expect us to get this close or that I’d fall in love with you but here we are. I’m happy beyond belief and with you, I think I can slowly heal if it’s with you. I love you too, Shoto.”
A couple more happy tears fell down her cheeks. Shoto wiped them away for her as she did. Then he handed her the present which she opened carefully. It was a beautiful necklace with a heart entwined with a ring as a pendant. Looking closely, (Y/N) saw that the ring was engraved with the letters ‘Always and Forever’.
Symbolizing their love and his unwavering support.
“It’s beautiful. Will you help me put it on?”
Shoto nodded, taking the necklace and (Y/N) turned around and moved her hair. The necklace fell lightly on her neck as Shoto fastened it. She turned back, fiddling with the pendant. “Thank you so much. I love it!”
Shoto smiled as he stared into her eyes. She smiled back and closed her eyes as Shoto inched forward. Sharing a short soft kiss, the two pulled back blushing furiously and heart fluttering.
It was another new beginning at the place where they first met. Maybe fate had a role to play in this meeting of two lost souls. Two souls that were meant to thaw the frozen hearts of one another.

Wandering back and forth on the path leading to the winged bridge, (Y/N) debated whether to go with what she planned or not. Pacing back and forth, thoughts rushing through her mind, she was going crazy thinking about it.
‘Deep breaths! I'm going to do it! I made up my mind yesterday. I will do it!’
‘I’m hoping he’s not there, ugh.’
(Y/N) fixed her hair and smoothed out her clothes. Taking the leap of faith, she walked to the bridge.
Of course, Shoto was there. Immersing himself in his photography. (Y/N) took a deep breath and said with her most stable voice that she could muster:
"You're here again..."
"Just as I expected."
"I have something to tell you."
"Will you listen?"
Shoto shifted his attention to her and replied, “Yeah, of course. Come sit.”
(Y/N) nodded and sat beside Shoto, holding her knees.
“I-”
“I-I like you!”
(Y/N) blurted it out as Shoto looked at her surprised.
What led to this confession was a short breakdown the night before this very day.
Ironically what led to this was just an anime that (Y/N) was watching. The situation in the series was quite similar between her and Shoto. Being the angst-loving girl, this series ends with regret because the main character didn’t confess their feelings. The heart wrenching pain from the angst end.
She spiraled into a black hole of thoughts. Thinking about the show and relating to her own situation got her all anxious. She wanted more but still afraid to lose what they had. Besides, she had no idea what Shoto thought of her. For once, she cursed that expressionless face of his though it was so weirdly attractive and more on the cute side. Regardless, she couldn’t get enough of that face even with the lack of emotions most of the time. Hence why when Shoto did smile, (Y/N)’s heart melted. She loved the boy with heterochromia and half white and half crimson red hair.
Tossing and turning on her bed, thoughts going haywire. She didn’t know what to do but the anime made her anxious. After all, they only met on the bridge and occasionally he visited their bakery. They went to different schools and didn’t have any common places to hang out beside the bridge.
Sighing, (Y/N) flopped off her bed and went downstairs. She needed clarity and a stop to her racing thoughts.
(Y/N)’s parents were in the living room watching a drama and she decided to join them. Ironically, the drama was monologuing about the character’s regret for not confessing his feelings.
‘Is the world trying to tell me something?!’
‘What’s with this?!’
(Y/N) sighed and ran back to her room. Her parents looked at each other wondering what was up with her. She didn’t have anyone to discuss it with except the person in question and that wasn’t an option.
‘Okay if it wasn’t about me and someone else. What would I say to them?’
‘Uh...I think I’d cheer them on? Maybe tell them to confess?’
‘Should I do that? But what if it goes all wrong! I don’t want to ruin what we have…’
Squishing the life out her pillow, (Y/N) remembered something her uncle told her before.
He always encouraged her to do everything head on without overthinking about the consequences. He was an advocate for chasing for what you truly wanted. After all, his passion for photography was never supported by (Y/N)’s grandparents from the get-go but he managed to make it into a career despite the opposition and obstacles.
The advice was more for career and passion wise but (Y/N) had adopted it into many parts of her life. Maybe even for this aspect of her life.
‘Maybe I should just confess? What is the worst that can happen?’
‘Am I crazy? Everything can go wrong!’
‘But I don’t want to regret anything. Mom and dad always tell me their stories about how dad came back, again and again, to ask my grandparents for her hand in marriage till they finally agreed.’
‘It’s not going to hurt to try, right? I think even if we don’t feel the same way, we can still be friends. Well, I hope so.’
‘Guess that’s settled Leave the actual confession to tomorrow’s me. I’ll get some sleep.’
That evening led to what happened on this lovely autumn afternoon.
‘Oh my God! I actually said it!’
‘Ugh! I can’t bear to stay another minute. I want to bury myself!’
(Y/N) stood up quickly, ready to run out. Before she could actually bolt, she was grabbed by the wrist.
“Wait…”
(Y/N) turned to look at Shoto. His face was bright red even with one hand covering half of it. He looked absolutely adorable.
“I-I like you too.”
Shoto stuttered out those words and (Y/N) just stared at him. Her own face was crimson. She couldn’t believe what he said and just stared at him, his hand still grabbing her wrist.
The next moment she registered what happened and lost the strength in her legs and collapsed, tears falling down.
Shoto was surprised by her crying and said nervously, “I-I’m sorry. Don’t cry.”
More tears rolled down (Y/N)’s face as she stuttered out, “N-no. I’m c-can’t believe y-you feel the s-same way...I-I’m so h-happy and I d-don’t know w-why I’m c-crying.”
Shoto sighed in relief. He was scared that he had made her cry, well he did but not like he hurt her.
Shoto held (Y/N)’s head and placed it on his chest, gently patting her back in an attempt to calm her. The two were in an odd position, both their faces flushed red.
Shock stopped (Y/N)’s tears. She could hear Shoto’s heartbeat racing or was it her own? She couldn’t tell. They stayed like that for a good moment until (Y/N) broke into a laugh.
Shoto let her go and (Y/N) chuckled as she wiped her tears. “How silly of me. Crying when my crush likes me back.”
Shoto let out a small laugh, “It’s adorable, (Y/N).”
Hearing Shoto call her by her first name was like music to her ears. His comment made her all embarrassed all over again, she could feel her cheeks burning up. Though, she was so very happy.
“I’m so happy that I don’t quite believe it,” (Y/N) said.
“Well, I’m the one who couldn’t believe my ears. I’ve liked you for a while now,” Shoto replied.
“Me too. I don’t even know when it started,” (Y/N) said, chuckling a little.
“I was so worried about your reaction. I’m so glad it turned out so well.”
“Thank you for finding the courage. I hesitated for too long that you had to do it,” Shoto said.
“But I’m glad you did. I’ve never been happier.”
A genuine smile plastered on his face. Bigger than any of the ones she’d seen before. She was blown away by his cuteness.
The two - now a couple - spent the rest of the afternoon making each other blush but also talking like usual. It was like nothing changed but also everything changed. They adored each other’s company even more after everything that happened.
Truly, the two were in bliss.
Healing was still an on-going process for (Y/N) but with Shoto’s support, she could handle it better than by herself. Reconciling with his family and getting things to be alright again required patience and forgiveness which Shoto was working on but with (Y/N), he felt he could make it a reality.
The pair were perfect for one another. After all, they managed to thaw out each other’s frozen hearts.
Frozen hearts that met in spring and hearts that thawed out in autumn. Time began moving again ever since the two lost souls found one another.

As spring turned to summer and summer into autumn, things settled down but feelings grew.
Enji continued his efforts to make things right and by autumn, Rei found the courage to see Enji again. Shoto still didn’t find the heart to forgive Enji for all he’s done but he’s learned to understand that Enji truly wanted to make things right and do the correct thing when he realized. Eventually, Shoto returned to his house. Enji decided to encourage Shoto’s passion and enrolled him in a proper photography school.
With all that mostly settled, (Y/N) and Shoto still met up at the winged bridge. Spending time together and conversing, slowly becoming fond of each other. The pair found serenity in each other’s presence yet the racing heartbeats. It was comforting to know they had one another.
The bridge became their little secret hideout where they met and enjoyed the company of one another, talking about their passions and learning about one another under the cover of trees and the blue sky.
“So your mother is finally returning home?” (Y/N) asked.
Shoto nodded, a little smile in his expression. “It’s still going to be hard for her but she’s trying her best.”
“Yeah! You’ll be there to support her, I’m sure she’ll only get even better,” (Y/N) said.
“Do you want to visit her at the hospital? I think she’d like the company, after all, she’s going to be discharged soon. I want to give her a nice memory,” Shoto asked, fiddling with his hands.
Nervous for (Y/N)’s answer, he added, “It’s fine if you don’t want to.”
“No, I’d love to! I’m excited to meet your mother for the first time!” (Y/N) replied cheerfully.
Genuinely glad to, (Y/N)’s mind wandered to giving Shoto’s mother a good impression of her. She decided to look for decent clothes the moment she reached home.
“I’m glad,” Shoto said with a smile.
A smile that melted (Y/N)’s heart. It was pretty rare to see Shoto smile but it was the most precious thing. A pity that it was uncommon.
“Tomorrow?” Shoto asked.
“Tomorrow!” (Y/N) agreed.
“Meet up here then.”
“Sounds good!” (Y/N) replied.
"Okay, let's learn the E Major today," (Y/N) said.
Shoto nodded and took the guitar from (Y/N).
(Y/N) explained the placement of fingers onto which string and even did a demonstration.
(Y/N) teaching Shoto a little about the guitar had become a part of the routine. Whereas Shoto let her use his camera and give her pointers to take better pictures.
The two shared their passions and joy with teaching each other about them. It was always enjoyable. Though, Shoto adored taking pictures of her the most.
He'd say it was practice for his photography classes that he needed to take pictures of people but aside from that, he just liked taking pictures of her. She didn't mind it all since he always made her look so nice and he'd always show her all the pictures he took.
Such was their relationship. Quite perfect but neither had made a move though they were aware of their own feelings. They really didn't want to ruin what they already had as they were unsure of each other's relationships.
Neither of them had people to get advice from beside their parents and there was no way they would tell their parents.
They were left to ponder on their own. Wanting something more than what they had but afraid to lose what they already had.
The following day, Shoto and (Y/N) met at the bridge. Shoto led the way to Rei's hospital.
(Y/N) spent the entire evening looking for the best outfit. Enough to impress but not too overdressed. She even prepared a small basket of bread with flowers.
Walking into the hospital, (Y/N) started sweating a bit and bunched her cardigan in one hand. It was a little nerve-wracking. She took a few deep breaths as they walked.
Shoto knocked on the door and (Y/N) standing behind her, clenching the handle of the breadbasket, trying to collect her thoughts, and calm down.
A feminine voice called out, “Come in!”
Shoto pushed the door open and walked inside, (Y/N) following after him.
“Ara, you’ve brought someone today. How unusual,” Rei said with a kind smile.
‘Ah...She’s so pretty.’
“This is my friend, (L/N) (Y/N),” Shoto said.
“Nice to meet you! I’m (L/N) (Y/N).”
‘I’m a friend? Don’t know if I like to be called that.’
“Pleasure is mine, I’m Shoto’s mother, Rei.”
“Shoto talks quite a bit about you,” Rei said with a chuckle.
“Mom…,” Shoto murmured, little red hue dusting his cheeks.
“I-Is that so?” (Y/N) stuttered out, her cheeks tinted pink.
“Here!” (Y/N) said, lifting the basket to Rei.
“Oh, how lovely. Thank you!” Rei replied, taking the basket.
“Shoto, please get some plates from the kitchen. I rather not ring the nurse for this,” Rei said.
Shoto nodded and left the room.
‘Ahh, he left me alone with his mother!’
“Please sit down.”
(Y/N) nodded and sat down, smoothing her skirt nervously.
“Shoto is quite an aloof boy, isn’t he? But he’s very kind. I’m glad you’re friends with him. Thank you and please continue to be nice to him,” Rei said, looking at (Y/N).
“Of course! I enjoy spending time with him. His photography skills are amazing! He might not show many emotions but I understand that he truly is sweet. We haven’t known each other for the longest but I know he’s a good person,” (Y/N) said fondly, forgetting all about her nervousness.
Talking about Shoto was something she always did, even at home. Her mother would tease her about it so much saying things like she would be happy to have Shoto as her son. It would make (Y/N) so embarrassed.
Rei chuckled and said, “I’m happy that Shoto has someone like you around.”
Shoto returned to (Y/N) and Rei conversing naturally and quite fondly. He set the plates down on the table next to the sofas. “I hope you’ll like our bread, Todoroki-san!”
“Please call me ‘Rei’.”
“Alright, Rei-san,” (Y/N) said with a smile.
Shoto handed Rei a plate and Rei said, “Thank you. Wow! There’s so much variety! I don’t know what I should have first!”
“I recommend the curry bun!” (Y/N) said proudly.
“I’ll have that first then!” Rei replied, taking a bite of the curry bun.
“Wow! This is delicious! Both of you should join me.”
The teenagers joined Rei and they all conversed while sharing bread. A short afternoon at the hospital turned out to be quite wonderful. (Y/N) found Rei to be a very amiable person and enjoyed talking to her. Whereas Rei was already ready to have her as a daughter.
Rei was sorry that she had to leave and made her promise that she would visit her when she got discharged. Shoto’s expression softened at the sight of the interactions between the girl he liked and his mother.

Pushing the bakery door open, (Y/N) said, “We’re home!”
“Welcome back!” (Y/N)’s father said.
“Lunch’s almost ready. Get going inside!”
(Y/N) nodded and went inside, Shoto following her.
“Welcome home, dears!”
“We’re back, mom,” (Y/N) said.
“Set up the table, please,” (Y/N)’s mother said.
“Okay!” (Y/N) replied as the two fixed up the table for lunch.
(Y/N)’s father joined them when everything was ready. Enjoying the meal, the family talked about mundane things. Mostly trying to not go into any sensitive topics especially topics which included Shoto.
After finishing up, Shoto said with a bow, “I want to thank you all for your kindness and hospitality you’ve given me.”
“I’ll be leaving tomorrow. I’m grateful for what you’ve done for me. I’ll definitely repay it.”
“Are you going to the apartment?” (Y/N) asked.
Shoto nodded as (Y/N)’s father said, “No problem at all! You’re welcome to stay longer! We don’t mind and we just hope we were able to help you.”
“You’ve helped me more than enough, (L/N)-san.”
“We’re glad to have you around, dear,” (Y/N)’s mother said.
“Thank you so much,” Shoto said with another bow.
“Do visit us, okay?” (Y/N)’s mother said.
Shoto nodded. The (L/N) couple returned to their work at the bakery. (Y/N) and Shoto helped out a bit as well. (Y/N) taught him some basics of playing the guitar in their free time.
The day passed by peacefully despite that fiasco in the early afternoon. Shoto needed the normal day after everything that had happened. Still unsure of what he would be doing but at least he wouldn’t be overstaying his welcome at (Y/N)’s place.
Following day, Shoto gathered up his things which were nothing useful since he stormed out of his house with his school bag and camera. He changed back into his uniform. Shoto swung his bag on his shoulder and made his way to the bakery. (Y/N) was there with her parents at the bustling bakery. The bustle soon died down and the family saw Shoto out.
“Again, thank you very much for everything,” Shoto said, bowing.
“Reach out to us whenever you need help, alright?” (Y/N)’s father said.
“Take some fresh bread with you!” (Y/N)’s mother said, handing Shoto a bag full of bread.
“Thank you,” Shoto said again.
How generous and amiable (Y/N)’s family was. It made him wonder if his family was ever like that once.
“Take care!” (Y/N) said fondly as she waved the boy goodbye.
She’d miss him having around. It wasn’t for long but the company was great. Her family was usually busy and she hardly made any friends in school so her weekends were usually spent by herself. (Y/N)’s hobbies took a portion of her time but having someone to talk to, who was the same age as her, was a comfort. The little meets they had at their little bridge, tucked away by the vast trees, were a source of happiness; for both of them. It was what led Shoto to seek her help when he had no one to turn to.
Shoto made his way to the apartment. Sighing, he inserted the key and pushed the door open. Looking down at his feet was a box. Confused, he crouched down and opened it. Inside it contained his clothes and other necessities. Even his laptop was there and the USB that Enji had taken from his room. Shoto ruffled his hair in annoyance. More of Enji’s ‘charity’.
He strolled to the kitchen, noticing a basket of fruits there. Staring at the fridge, he opened it. As he thought, it was filled with all the basic ingredients. Shoto scowled, thinking if this is how Enji is trying to make things right then he’s never going to get there with just little favors.
Shoto brought in his things into one of the bedrooms. Turning his laptop on, he stuck the USB into the port. Scanning through the pictures, he realized it was the one with the picture of (Y/N). Enji had definitely seen the pictures, it’d be a problem if Enji was lying about everything to get him back home and he would definitely use (Y/N) against him. He wished Enji really meant what he said though it was really hard to believe.
Settling down at the apartment took a bit so after that he went out for a breath of fresh air. A feeling to see (Y/N) again even though they parted not so long ago. His feet took him there, hoping she’d be there. It was the weekend so she could be there unlike on weekdays when she’d only be there at a specific time. Following the path he always took, he avoided the trees and slipped past them till the bridge came into view. To his amusement, (Y/N) was there. Sitting there, nose stuck into a book. Fully immersed, she hadn’t even noticed his arrival. “What are you reading?” Shoto asked.
Startled, (Y/N) shut her book close. “Oh, it’s you. You scared me.”
“It’s called ‘The Book Thief’. It’s about Nazi Germany during World War II which follows the life of a girl. It’s narrated by death. Isn’t it simply amazing?” (Y/N) replied with an amused expression.
She was definitely enjoying the book. “Sounds pretty interesting.”
“I’ll lend it to you when I finish,” (Y/N) said with a grin.
Shoto gave her a small smile. “What genres of books do you read?”
“Oh. I tend to gravitate towards mystery novels,” Shoto replied.
“Mhmm, I like mystery novels too. But I read all sorts of genres. It’s lovely to read all sorts of writing by different individuals,” (Y/N) said, gleaming at the thought of novels.
She was certainly a person who had many hobbies. It’s one of which made her interesting and easy to get along with. Though she never tried making new friends ever since Miku. Shoto was different and she didn’t think they would end up like this in the beginning. He was just a boy who found the spot she always frequented and she didn’t chase him away. Getting to know him, she realized he was a person with such depth and profound emotions.
Slowly, she started to fall for him. The boy who had a cold expression turned out to be able to make such a soft expression albeit the fact that it was a small smile. And he started to fall for her, the girl with a complex past yet so vibrant and strong. She gave him strength and much-needed support.
The two who’s lives were entwined on the winged bridge that day in spring.

“What are you going to do now? It’s fine if you don’t know though. My family and I will help you however we can,” (Y/N) asked.
“I don’t know but thank you. I think I need to sort out my thoughts,” Shoto replied with a deep sigh.
Everything was a mess in Shoto’s mind. He needed to clear his head. “I think I’ll go on a walk.”
“Sounds like a good idea. Let’s get your camera, shall we?” (Y/N) said.
The two went inside the bakery. (Y/N)’s father came up to Shoto, “Here, your father left this key and address. He said it was an empty apartment. He said it was in case if you were overstaying your welcome. Though, we don’t mind you staying at all. Good luck, son. We’re here for you if you need us.”
Shoto was really grateful for (Y/N) and her family. They were so kind and supportive to him. He only frequented the bridge and had conversations with (Y/N) and visited their bakery but they were so nice and hospitable to him. The (L/N) family really was a blessing to Shoto, especially (Y/N).
“Thank you,” Shoto said, taking the key and paper with the address on it and stuffing it into his pockets.
He didn’t want to take his father’s charity but he couldn’t stay at (Y/N)’s place for too long and he sure as hell wasn’t going back home.
(Y/N) brought Shoto his camera and waved to him as he left for his walk. Shoto walked aimlessly, taking pictures of nature along the way and the occasional resting stray dogs and cats. Then, he decided to go and visit his mother. He thought he might find peace after talking to her. He decided to buy her some flowers as well.
“Miss Rei, your son is here,” The nurse said, knocking the door.
Shoto slid open the door, revealing his mother sitting on a chair looking out the window like usual.
"Hey, mom. How are you?"
"Shoto? It's nice to see you," Rei said, smiling.
"Here, I got you some snowdrops," Shoto said, giving Rei the bouquet.
"Thank you. They're beautiful," Rei said, smelling the flowers.
He looked around to find a vase to put the flowers in. He did find a vase but there were already flowers in it. He didn't know anyone who would visit his mother beside him.
"Mom, who brought those flowers?" Shoto asked.
Rei flinched and looked tense. "T-the nurse brought it in…She said it was from E-Enji…"
Shock covered Shoto's face. Enji had never visited Rei, let alone bring her flowers. Though, he was glad that Enji didn't meet Rei. Rei was still in no shape to meet him even though she had been getting better.
To put his mother at ease, Shoto didn’t say anything more about the case. “I’ll go ask the nurses for another vase.”
Rei nodded, admiring the beautiful snowdrops as Shoto exited the room. Shoto looked for a nurse and the one he found was particularly supportive of giving the flowers a place to rest. She said she would bring it to Rei’s room. Shoto thanked her nonchalantly and proceeded back to Rei’s room.
“The nurse is bringing a vase,” Shoto said.
“Come here, son. Let me see your face,” Rei said, motioning the boy forward.
Shoto obliged and sat on the sofa which Rei was facing. Rei held his face in her hands, gliding her fingers across his scar and whispered, “I’m so sorry, dear. I’m so sorry.”
Shoto softly said, taking Rei’s hand into his own, “It’s okay, mom. I’m okay.”
Shoto put his mother’s hands down and held them. The nurse burst inside, “Here, I’ve brought the vase!”
Shoto stood up and took the bouquet of snowdrops and placed it into the vase. “Oh my, these are lovely! Really beautiful flowers indeed!” The nurse said.
She scuttled out as fast as she came in. Shoto rested the vase on Rei’s bedside table. Snapped a picture of it like he always did.
“I’ll be back tomorrow, mom. I have to go somewhere,” Shoto said.
“Go on then, dear. Thank you for always visiting,” Rei said with a smile.
“See you tomorrow,” Shoto said as he exited the room.
Leaving the hospital grounds, Shoto took out the piece of paper from his pocket. Reading the address, Shoto made his way there.
Shoto stood there, looking at the huge building in front of him. It was fairly close to the hospital and (Y/N)’s house. He looked at the apartment number and made his way into the building.
5th floor. Apartment number 3132. Shoto unlocked the door and stepped inside. It was a spacious suite. The living room and kitchen weren’t separated like usual and all the furniture and appliances were there. It seemed brand new. There were two bedrooms, also fully furnished with single beds, a closet, and a desk.
Shoto sighed. He really didn’t want his father’s charity but he didn’t want to overstay his welcome at (Y/N)’s. Especially since he still has no idea what he is going to do. He couldn’t take their kindness for granted for an extended period of time. Sighing again, Shoto decided he’d stay here and figure things out. Better than returning home where Enji was.
Shoto left the apartment and made his way back to (Y/N)’s bakery but before that, he took a detour to the bridge. The place was like a calming place for Shoto.
Walking into the clearing, Shoto saw (Y/N) sitting there, playing her guitar. She noticed him and said with a smile, “How was your walk?”
“It was alright.”
“Come, sit with me. I want you to hear my new piece,” (Y/N) said, patting the space next to her.
Shoto did as he was told and sat beside her. (Y/N) focused on her fingers and began strumming. A lovely little melody was produced from the instrument. Rather calming since she was playing it slowly.
“What do you think?” (Y/N) asked.
“It’s calming, I guess. The slowness breathes serenity,” Shoto answered.
“Thanks, that’s exactly what I had in mind,” (Y/N) said, standing up.
“Let’s head home, shall we?”
Shoto nodded and stood up. The two walked back home together while enjoying the clear day as if the storm from the day prior never happened.

(Y/N)’s father returned the next morning. The storm was long gone and was replaced by the clear blue sky. They had opened up their store, as usual, made bread and followed the routine. Shoto insisted on helping out however he could but he knew he had to figure something out. He couldn’t stay at their place forever.
The afternoon slump rolled over so the (L/N) family decided it was time to address the issue. Except (Y/N), none of them knew why Shoto came to their house, all drenched. (Y/N)’s mother offered to look after the store while (Y/N) and her father sat Shoto down for a conversation.
“I owe you an explanation. I’m grateful to your wife and daughter didn’t ask me much and accepted me into the house. I’ll tell you everything,” Shoto said to (Y/N)’s father.
(Y/N), sitting beside Shoto, looked at him, and said, “You don’t have to force yourself.”
“Thank you but it’s fine. Your parents should know about it,” Shoto said.
“Take your time. I just want to know a little so I can understand the situation. We just want to help you,” (Y/N)’s father said, calmly.
“Thank you, (L/N)-san,” Shoto replied.
Shoto explained everything to (Y/N)’s father excluding the thing with his mother and his scar. He just told him that his mother wasn’t living in the same house as him.
(Y/N)’s father listened intently, processing the situation at hand and trying to think of a solution. “I understand where you’re coming from. I won’t force you to return but you need to figure this out. I’ll see what I can do, you can stay at our place for the time being. It’s Saturday today so we still have time before school so we can take things one at a time.”
“Thank you so much. How can I repay your kindness?” Shoto asked, genuinely feeling supported by an adult for the first time in his life.
“It’s completely normal to help someone out. Like I always encourage (Y/N) to help people out if she can. So it’s our pleasure. In return, please take care of (Y/N),” (Y/N)’s father said with a kind smile.
“Papa!” (Y/N) said.
“I’ll do my best. I’ll help however I can while I figure things out,” Shoto replied.
(Y/N) didn’t say much and let the two converse. She wanted the best for Shoto. She was really grateful that her parents were so understanding and supportive otherwise she couldn’t have done anything for Shoto. She wanted to be there for him in any way possible.
The conversation continued till (Y/N)’s mother came to the living room and said, “Todoroki-kun, someone is here to see you.”
Shoto expected it to be Hirugami since his father wouldn’t just leave him be. He sighed and stood up, getting ready to sternly tell Hirugami to leave. Shoto walked out of the living room, following (Y/N)’s mother. (Y/N) quickly joined Shoto.
Shoto and (Y/N) walked out of the bakery as that is where (Y/N)’s mother said the person was. Shoto stood dead in his tracks when he saw who it was. (Y/N) bumped against him since she was walking close behind him.
(Y/N) looked at who it was. It was a tall man with crimson hair and turquoise eyes. Exactly like the left side of Shoto’s face. ‘He’s his father, isn’t he?’
The man, Enji, walked up to Shoto and said, “Shoto, can we talk?”
Enji looked like he didn’t get any sleep and seemed rather remorseful. Shoto said harshly, “I’ve got nothing to say to you anymore. How’d you find this place?!”
“I got Hirugami to check around and he saw you here,” Enji replied.
“Please, can we talk?”
Shoto turned to leave but (Y/N) put her hand on his shoulder and said, “At least hear him out, okay? You can decide what to do later.”
Shoto hesitated and then said with a sigh, “Alright since you’re telling me to.”
(Y/N) gave him a worried smile and Shoto turned around, “I’ll listen for a bit.”
“Thank you, Shoto. You too, miss. Thank you for asking him to listen,” Enji said, truly grateful to have Shoto hear him out.
Shoto begrudgingly sat down at the chairs outside the bakery. Fortunately, there weren’t any customers so they wouldn’t bother anyone. (Y/N) went inside to give them privacy. Shoto wished for her to be there but he didn’t want to involve her directly with his father.
The father and son sat in silence for a good bit. Shoto rolled his eyes, not expecting anything from Enji except him trying to drag him back home.
“Shoto...I-”
Enji looked directly at Shoto, bowed his head down, and said, “I’m so sorry, Shoto.”
“I’m sorry?” Shoto said.
“Is that what you’re here for?! A measly apology?!”
“Shoto, I thought about what you said yesterday. I-I didn’t realize that I wasn’t thinking of you...I was only thinking about myself…,” Enji said, quietly.
A sorry state to see him like that because Enji was always loud and confident but the man that sat before Shoto was truly pathetic. Maybe he was truly sorry. Not that apology would erase the trauma he had inflicted upon his family.
“Now you realize? All my life, you controlled every single thing I did. You drove mom crazy and sent her to the hospital. And now you’re sorry?!”
“I know what I did was unforgivable. I won’t ask for your forgiveness or Rei’s but I want the chance to make things right…,” Enji said, strain in his voice.
Shoto spat back, “You think I’ll believe your words? Saying things is easy but actually doing something isn’t that simple. I don’t believe you can change.”
“I don’t expect you to believe me right away but know that I want to change. I spent last night reflecting everything I’ve done and I know I’ve wronged many people. I took the day off today to come to you and apologize.”
“Rei doesn’t want to see me at all so I left her a letter instead. I can’t take back what I’ve done but I want to at least do things right from now on,” Enji said, head still hanging down.
He truly was apologetic for his past actions but only time will tell if it was all bark and no bite or not.
Shoto looked away from Enji, not saying anything else. He felt it was futile and letting out his anger at him didn’t make him feel any better.
“I won’t force you to come home with me but I hope you will understand that you can’t stay at this place forever. I’ll thank this bakery’s owner. Truly, I’m really sorry. I regret how I treated you and your mother.”
Enji stood up to go into the bakery and Shoto didn’t say a word. He couldn’t believe that Enji would feel sorry. Or ever reflect on his own actions. His head was in a mess, he couldn’t really believe anything Enji said. He grew up knowing his father to be a self-centered man who only saw his own ambitions and never cared about anyone. This ‘apology’ from Enji really threw him off. Shoto could never forgive him but a sliver of hope unexpectedly grew in him that Enji would change.
Shoto sighed as (Y/N) walked to him. “You okay?”
“No, not really,” Shoto said with a deep sigh.
“I don’t know what you guys talked about but I know you can get through it. You can talk to me, I’m here for you,” (Y/N) said, softly.
Before Shoto could reply, Enji came out of the bakery. “Goodbye, Shoto, miss (L/N). Your bakery is lovely.”
Enji left and Shoto felt he could breathe again. Shoto turned to (Y/N) and sighed.

“My father...is not like yours...He is controlling and he only cares about his company...And he wants me to take over it in the future...So he forced me to study everything that was needed to inherit his company...I didn’t want anything to do with it but I had no choice...I didn’t have the courage to go against him because he was the only parental figure in my life and what he taught me was utter obedience to him…”
“My first act of defiance to him was faking that I went to the cram school when in reality, I visited my mother and met you, at the bridge. It was the only freedom I had...I had to get that little time away to take pictures without him knowing. Otherwise, he would take it all away.”
Touching his scar, he said, “My mother gave me this scar…”
(Y/N) was horrified to hear of this. She had no idea what kind of family situation Shoto had. ‘His mother gave him that burn scar?...’
“It’s not her fault. My father drove her crazy from trying to control every part of life and terrorized her. She is mentally unstable because of him. So when I was younger, she looked at me horrified, and threw boiling water on my face. I don’t resent her for it, she must have been terrified of me since I looked like my father.”
Shoto looked into his hands and (Y/N)’s hand that was on top of his as he spoke. His voice was laced with hurt and frustration and sadness.
“But he found one of the USBs where I keep my pictures and found out that I had been faking that I was going to cram school. He insulted my mother and threatened to take away my camera. But I flipped out because I couldn’t handle it anymore...It was more than I could bear. All my life was that never-ending feeling of being suffocated and I hated being unable to freely do what I loved. So I snapped at him and left. And I ended up here…”
“I’m sorry to bother you. I didn’t know where else to go…”
Sadness washed over (Y/N), she didn't know that he had such a life. She had been blessed with supportive and loving parents. It broke her heart, seeing him talk about this with such pain.
“I’m sorry that you have to listen to me even though you’ve been through worse…”
(Y/N) said gently, “No...You’re not bothering me. My family welcomes you as well. Your pain is still valid. We don’t have the same circumstances but your problems and pain are still valid. Don’t hesitate if you want to talk about it. I’m here to listen. I’m so sorry to hear about this. I’m not sure what to say but I care about you so let’s think about it together, okay?”
Shoto looked at her, those kind words he had never heard before. It washed all over him, making him like he could express himself properly for the first time in his life. What (Y/N) said gave him the reassurance he desperately needed. He had stormed out of the house without thinking ahead. He started to get anxious about how his father took his outburst. He didn’t regret it one bit though.
After all, he finally said what he wanted to after so many years. He didn't know what he would do now but he knew he would never forgive his father ever. He made his life miserable and his mother's too before he was born. He was glad to have (Y/N) and grateful for her and her family. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have anywhere to go.
“Come, let’s go to my room. I left your things there. I hope your camera is okay. You got drenched after all,” (Y/N) said, leading him to her room.
(Y/N) handed him his bag and he took out his camera. Inspecting it and turning it on, both sighed in relief since it turned on. (Y/N) knew how precious his camera was to him.
“(Y/N)! Come down!”
“Mom’s calling. Let’s go back down,” (Y/N) said.
Shoto nodded and the two filed downstairs.
“It looks like your dad can’t come home tonight. The thunderstorm isn’t stopping at all. He’ll stay with your uncle for the night,” (Y/N)’s mother explained.
“Todoroki-kun can stay, right? It’s pouring outside,” (Y/N) said looking out through the window.
“Of course, dear. He can’t leave in this storm!” (Y/N)’s mother replied.
“I’m sorry to bother you at this time,” Shoto said with a bow.
“And thank you for letting me stay.”
“It’s completely fine! I would feel terrible to turn you away! Besides, you’re always welcome here!” (Y/N)’s mother said with a smile.
“Thank you very much, (L/N)-san.”
“Well, I’ll make dinner. Get Todoroki-kun comfortable, dear,” (Y/N)’s mother said.
“Let’s go back to my room,” (Y/N) said.
“Show me some of the pictures you took,” (Y/N) said, smiling.
Shoto sighed with a smile and gave her his camera. They both sat on her bed. (Y/N) turned on the camera and looked at the new photographs he took. “Wow! Is it just me or your pictures even better than before?”
“Really? Looks like observing and helping out your uncle really helped. I’m glad,” Shoto said, proud of his improvement but not showing it.
“Yeah!” (Y/N) said, eyes glued on the pictures.
She stopped at a picture. Another picture of a vase of flowers, this time they were daisies. It was the same setting which she assumed was of a hospital room. She hadn’t asked about it before but she was still curious as to who he was visiting.
“Is this taken in a hospital?” (Y/N) asked, turning to Shoto.
“...”
Shoto hesitated and then replied, “Yeah. It’s taken at my mother’s hospital room.”
“I’m so sorry,” (Y/N) said, regretting asking.
It was too personal and she had no idea he had such circumstances. She really didn’t know him at all. After all, he barely talked about himself whenever they met.
“No, it’s fine. If it’s you…,” Shoto replied, saying the last part really softly.
“My mother is hospitalized because she is mentally unstable after she snapped back then and gave me this scar. She’s been there ever since. Only recently, I’ve been able to visit her and she seems to be doing better. We’ve been communicating much more and I’m glad to reconcile with my mother,” Shoto explained, softly speaking about his mother who he never hated or blamed.
“I’m truly glad that she’s getting better and you both have restored your relationship,” (Y/N) replied, gently looking at the picture of daisies.
Shoto looked fondly at the picture and said, “She always protected me from my father and I adored her. She was kind and caring. Seeing her slowly return to how she was before, it gives me immense happiness…”
(Y/N) expression melted into a sweet smile, seeing Shoto so soft. The expressionless boy she once knew had turned into this boy with such a tender look.
The two conversed while looking through the pictures he had taken until (Y/N)’s mother called them down for dinner. Shoto helped with the dishes. They spent the rest of the evening talking till it was time to sleep.
“Are you comfortable on the couch? I can go find you a futon,” (Y/N) asked.
“Yeah, I’m good. Thanks,” Shoto replied.
“If you say so. Good night,” (Y/N) said, turning off the lights and heading to her room.
“Good night,” Shoto replied softly, closing his eyes.
He fell into a dreamless sleep after the exhausting day.

You’re window shopping with your friend, Yura; your heterochromatic eyes reflecting the clothes inside the shops. Left eye (e/c) and right eye crimson red. You sigh, “I really want that. I’m so broke though.”
“I know right! Let’s get ice cream instead,” Yura says, dragging you.
Moving through many people in the plaza while your words drowned in the noise of the crowd. Yura is chattering on top of her lungs though. You walk past a pair of tall guys, immediately feeling faint. You wonder if you forgot to take your iron pills. You stop in your tracks and Yura turns back, “Are you okay?”
“Oh my God! (Name)! Y-your eye!” Yura yells.
“What?” You groan, feeling like you might pass out.
“Your eye color! Your red iris is gone! You’ve met your soul mate!” She yells, freaking out.
She rummages through her bag and produces a small mirror, bringing it up to your face. You definitely see that both your eyes are (e/c) now but it quickly flickers away and your red iris is back.
Everyone is born with heterochromia; left eye, your original eye color, and right eye, your soulmates’ eye color. When you meet your soulmate, you’ll feel faint as the hue of your right iris changes to match your left iris. But this change is only for a moment and not permanent. Only when you and your soul mate have some kind of physical contact then you will regain your original eye color in both eyes as will they.
You don’t have the biggest interest in this soulmate business but Yura loves the concept. She looks around to figure out who it is but it’s a busy plaza and people are moving quickly.
“Aww, how will you find them now?” Yura whines.
“I don’t particularly care about it. You know people can lead perfectly normal lives even without their soulmates,” You roll your eyes.
“But meeting your soulmate is so romantic!” She retorts.
You sigh deeply, “Let’s get that ice cream.”
The two of you continue to the ice cream parlor.
~
Somehow, you got roped into hosting a party at this charity organization. You didn’t even want to be asked why you even agreed in the first place. Well, you were lowkey threatened to stay and do the job; but you don’t talk about that. Because it turned out way better than you expected when you first joined; terrified out of your wits, not knowing what exactly you signed up for.
Luckily, they were all genuinely good people, and the time leading up to the party, you learned more about every member. From Zen to Yoosung to Jaehee to Jumin to Seven. Jumin and Seven were more on the mysterious side, especially Seven but you got along with him, Yoosung and Jaehee. And most of all, Zen.
Those beautiful eyes; one bright crimson and one beautiful (e/c). Of course, the possibility of Zen being your soulmate did cross your mind but it was quickly ruled out. You didn't believe much in the soulmate thing and you didn't think coincidences like this happen. Like what were the chances? Besides, many people had similar-colored eyes.
You and Zen got along swimmingly. You found him extremely attractive but as the days passed and you chatted with him you started to love his personality. Definitely a bit of a narcissist...okay no lies...a huge narcissist. He was kind at heart and very caring. Also madly affectionate and you loved it when he used endearing words to call you. At first, you just thought he was a pretty boy but as time passed and the both of you shared conversations; you quickly noticed that you were falling fast. Really fast and no one could stop it.
You were hit by the sudden realization of your feelings and flustered about it. The realization that the party was right around the corner was the trigger to you realizing your feelings. You were so excited and nervous to meet Zen for the first time in person. You were comforted by his words in a text and his voice in calls but seeing in real life and flesh and blood was a whole different story.
The party day drew closer in a blink of an eye. Hours before the party, you found yourself in a mess. Cursing yourself for not deciding on an outfit suitable for the party. You rummaged through your closet, throwing clothes out, filling up the entire apartment with clothes.
You groaned in frustration as you stared at the 3 outfits laying on your bed. Messing up your hair, you decided to send photos of each outfit to Seven. You and Seven got along pretty well since you both had a similar sense of humor. By the day of the party, you both were pretty tight. You sent him the pictures and asked for his opinion as you flopped onto your bed, sighing.
Normally, you wouldn’t care about your outfit but this time, you did. All because you were going to meet Zen for the first time. You never thought you’d be like this; like Yura. Zen just made you feel things you never felt before. You couldn’t even explain it. All you decided to do was to cherish it. Though, you never thought that he’d feel the same way ever.
Seven texted back really quickly saying he liked the second outfit you sent. Taking his opinion, you changed. Finally, you were done with your outfit, on making yourself look presentable as the party host, well, mostly for Zen.
Your heartbeat sped up slightly as you got excited about the party. You’d finally meet everyone in real life and not through a screen. You felt jittery as your stomach did a couple of flips.
Finishing up some final touches, you took one look at yourself in the mirror and headed out. Taking a bus and walking a few meters, you stood before the party hall. Bracing yourself, you pushed the doors open. Some finishing touches were being made to the hall, supervised by the brown-haired assistant. You smiled, walking up to her, “Jaehee!”
“Is that you (Name)?” She said.
“It’s so nice to finally meet you!” You said, excitement filling your belly.
Meeting her in person was way different than texting online.
“It’s lovely to meet you in person,” Jaehee smiled.
You excitedly asked, “Who else is here?”
“Mr. Han is arriving shortly. Yoosung and Luciel are coming together. Zen said he’ll be here in a while,” Jaehee answered.
As soon as she said that, Jumin joined you guys.
“Mr. Han,” Jaehee said.
“Assistant Kang and I presume you are (Name),” Jumin said, matter-of-factly.
“Yes! Pleased to meet you, Jumin!”
“Likewise,” Jumin replied.
“(Name)!”
You heard a familiar voice call out. You turned to the source of the voice. You saw Yoosung run up to you at full speed, Seven trailing right behind.
Yoosung ran up and gave you a bone-crushing hug.
“You’re going to suffocate her,” Seven commented, laughing.
Yoosung let go real quick, “Sorry! I got too excited! It’s so nice to see you at last, (Name)!”
“Happy to see too, Yoosung,” You flashed a smile.
“You too, Seven,” You added, giving him a fist bump.
“Just Zen left now,” Jaehee said.
Hearing his name sends butterflies to his stomach. You couldn’t wait to see him, wondering if he looked even better in real life. The anticipation made your stomach twist and convulse in a way it never did before. The effect he had on you was unreal.
You continued talking to the rest of the party as most of the preparations were done and the party was officially starting soon.
You were laughing at a joke Seven made but suddenly, you felt faint; a wave of nausea swept into you. You grimaced a little and you heard a voice, “(Name).”
You turned to the owner of the voice, clutching your chest. Your heterochromatic eyes flickered to the person who called you; eyes locking each other’s as it immediately changed colors.
“Zen…,” You murmured.
“You’re my soulmate,” He smiled, his now both crimson eyes staring into yours as he took your hand and pressed it to his lips.
Nausea disappeared immediately after your eyes changed colors. But now you felt your heart in your throat as you looked at the breathtaking man in front of you; unable to utter a single word.
He was way more handsome than you could ever imagine. His selfies didn’t do him justice. Those bright crimson irises, silky smooth silver hair that fell beautifully on his face, the stance he took, the aura he emitted; all made him seem more ethereal than you could have imagined.
“Z-Zen,” You finally found words to utter his name.
You couldn’t believe it that he was your soul mate.
“You were the one who I crossed paths with at that plaza a while ago where my eyes temporarily changed…,” You muttered.
“Yeah,” He smiled.
~
On the other hand, Zen is out shopping with Yoosung at the very same plaza. He crosses paths with you and feels lightheaded. Being the sucker for romance he is, he whips his head back, looking around. He is absolutely certain he has met his soulmate. Yoosung looks at him confused until he realizes that both his eyes are crimson red.
“Your soulmate!” Yoosung yells.
“Yes yes, I know!” Zen says, looking around frantically but to no avail.
The crowd moves quickly and they are getting swept away by it.
“Damnit, missed them,” Zen curses.
~
Surprise on your face, you stuttered out, “I can’t believe it.”
“I can. The moment we started talking on the messenger, I felt a connection,” Zen said.
Heart beating out of your chest as Zen moved closer to you, entwining your hands with his; pressing his forehead to yours, “I’m so happy you’re my soulmate.”
You stared at his eyes as it reflected your own; feeling like there was no one in the hall other than you two. The other members’ comments turned into a muffle as everything turned blurry except for the man who is your soulmate in front of you.

»»—————————————♡ —————————————««
Days passed with that day of (Y/N) being vulnerable behind them. Their routine returned but they conversed more frequently and more freely than before. The subject was never brought up again but (Y/N) seemed a bit better. But Shoto knew better than anyone that it was easy to hide how they truly felt. Nevertheless, they had become closer than just acquaintances. Were they friends? Or more? It was never truly established.
Shoto stepped into his unnecessarily big house. Enji really liked to flaunt his wealth with earthly possessions. He was about to head to his room when his father’s secretary, Hirugami, stopped him, “Shoto-sama, your father wishes for your presence at his office.”
Shoto sighed, dealing with his father was always a bother. He nodded and made his way to the office with Hirugami walking in front of him. He knocked on the office door and called out, “Sir, Shoto-sama is here.”
“Come in,” A deep voice called out inside the office, the familiar voice Shoto wished he never had to hear ever again.
Hirugami opened the door and Shoto walked inside. Enji was sitting in his chair with the same stoic and intimidating look. “You may leave.”
Hirugami bowed and left the two of them alone. “Do you have anything you want to tell me?” Enji asked.
Shoto was confused, not knowing what he meant. He stood there silently. “I know what you did, Shoto!” Enji said, raising his voice.
“Hirugami found this in your room,” Enji said sharply, holding up a USB and a pamphlet.
Shoto was shocked to see his USB. He had forgotten to hide it and the pamphlet he got from (Y/N)’s uncle about a photography contest. Shoto stuttered, “T-that’s…”
“Spare me your excuses. I wondered where you got time to take these many pictures when your schedule was so full so I called your cram school. They told me you never enrolled in their school.”
“I-“
Without stopping to listen to Shoto, Enji snarled, “How dare you lie to me! What else have you been doing in those three hours instead of studying?!”
Knowing he was completely screwed, Shoto was panicking. It was all over. Enji would have someone around him at all times. He wouldn’t be able to visit his mother anymore or see (Y/N) again let alone go to the photography studio. He clenched his fists and gritted his teeth in anger and helplessness.
“Is this how you repay me for everything?!” Enji thundered.
“I know you’ve been visiting Rei and I let you because I thought you were working hard! Did she teach you this?! That crazy woman! I’m taking away your camera and the USB!”
That was the last straw. Enji insulted his mother and threatened to take away his most treasured item. All the pent up anger and frustration from over the years came flooding out.
“No! I’ve had enough of you!” Shoto yelled.
“How dare-”
“I’ve had enough of this! All you ever did was control me to do whatever you wanted. I never wanted to take over your stupid company! I want to be a photographer! All you did was force things on me! I never wanted any of this! I’m so sick of you and your stupid ideals! You’re so self-centered and only care about yourself. You don’t care about me or mom or anything besides your stupid company! You drove mom crazy and now you want to drive me crazy too! No, I won’t listen to you any longer! I hated every second I had to spend in this house and now you want to take away the little freedom I had to carve for myself?! No! I’m not staying a minute in this house anymore! I hate you and I hope you die in a ditch!”
Shoto huffed in anger as he swung away and stomped out the office. Enji was stunned. It was the first he had ever heard Shoto express himself. He didn’t even know his son was able to exhibit such anger.
Shoto stormed out of the house, getting drenched immediately since it was pouring outside. The rain was still better than being in that house for any second longer. He ran out into the rain, not knowing where to go. His anger never seemed to fade until it sizzled down into frustration and pure agony. Without realizing, he stood outside (Y/N)’s bakery. The lights were off. They were closed since it was pouring so no customers. He turned to leave, he didn’t even know why he was there.
“Todoroki-kun?”
He turned to the familiar voice. (Y/N) looked at him with a worried expression while holding an umbrella. She had come out of the bakery.
“Oh my God, you’re drenched! What happened?”
“...”
“Nevermind, come inside!”
(Y/N) took him by the hand and led him inside the bakery, through the back, and into their house. (Y/N)’s mother saw him and she was surprised. “Oh, dear! Let me get some towels!”
(Y/N) sat him down on the sofa and her mother brought towels. They helped him dry himself but he didn’t speak a word. “Take Todoroki-kun to the bathroom. He needs to take a shower or he’ll catch a cold. I’ll go find some of your father’s clothes for him.”
(Y/N) nodded and led him to the bathroom. Shoto was down casted and unexpressive. His hair hiding his eyes. (Y/N) said softly, “I don’t know what happened but take a shower first, okay?”
Her gentle voice made him almost burst into tears but he controlled it and nodded. Shoto took a shower and (Y/N)’s mothers left him some clothes. (Y/N) was making hot cocoa for him. “I wonder what happened to the poor boy,” (Y/N)’s mother said, worried.
“I don’t know, mom,” (Y/N) said with a sigh.
(Y/N) was worried that he seemed so down. ‘What in the world happened?’
Shoto came into the living room wearing (Y/N)’s fathers clothes which were a bit loose on him. (Y/N) motioned him to sit down and handed him the cup of hot cocoa. She sat beside him and (Y/N)’s mother joined them. “What happened?”
Shoto didn’t really want to tell her about it but they had the right to know after helping him and taking him into their home during a thunderstorm.
“I…”
“If it helps, I’ll go to my room. I need to call my husband anyway,” (Y/N)’s mother said, leaving the two in the living room.
(Y/N) looked at him, took his hand, and squeezed it. “I’m here for you.”
It meant the world to Shoto to hear that from her. Hesitantly, he said, “I...had a fight...with my father…”
(Y/N) wondered how bad of a fight it had to be for him to leave during a thunderstorm. She didn’t question him and let him speak.

You breathe in deeply; the cold air seeps inside as you breathe out with a puff of air, blowing into your hands to warm them as you wait. As you wait for Suga. Sugawara Koushi, the love of your life.
It is winter in Miyagi as you shiver in your multiple layers and a huge red woolen scarf.
“(Name)!”
You turn to the owner of the voice, smiling. You run up and hug him. Warmth seeping into you, forgetting all about the initial cold. He holds you tightly, caressing your hair. You sink into his chest, burying your face into his red scarf that matches yours. You whisper, “I missed you so much, Koushi.”
“I missed you too, (Name). I’m sorry for making you wait in the cold.”
You shake your head and look up at his beautiful face, soft light grey hair slightly disheveled. “No, I didn’t wait long.”
“Let’s go to my place,” Suga says, entwining his hands with yours.
“Your hands are freezing, love,” Suga says, worried.
“I’ll be fine,” You smile.
Suga squeezes your hand and leads you to his apartment. You can’t stop smiling because you haven’t seen him in a couple of months. The first semester of university had been really busy and tough on both of you who were fresh out of high school and not used to everything. You went to university in Tokyo whereas he went to one in Miyagi. So you both are in a long-distance relationship. Sort of. Well, unlike in high school where you saw each other every day. It definitely was hard but you both wanted to make it work.
Unlocking his apartment, Suga yells, “I’m home.”
Daichi sticks his head out of the kitchen and says, “Welcome home.”
He notices you and smiles, “(Name)! It’s so nice to see you!”
“Missed you too, Daichi!” You say as you take off your coat, walking over to him and giving him a quick hug.
“How are Asahi and Kiyoko-chan doing?” You ask.
“They’re doing well. Have you kept in touch?” Daichi says.
“Occasionally,” You reply.
“Well, I’ve gotta go. Part-time job. Make yourself comfortable,” Daichi says grinning as he grabs his coat.
“Thanks, Daichi. I’m glad I got to see you. Good luck with work!” You say.
“See you later, man,” Suga says.
Daichi leaves and Suga smiles, “Come, I have something for you.”
You look at him, wondering what he means. He leads you to his room. Neat and tidy, it sure is Suga’s room. The scent of his laundry detergent enveloping the entire room; the familiar scent you miss so much. The few months apart had been hard but you both had started to adjust. Nevertheless missing each other’s company and missing the old times. But you both put your own futures before anything while keeping your relationship afloat. Knowing it would be hard, you and Suga believed in each other and in the love between you both.
Suga sits you down on his bed as he shuffles over to his drawer. He produces a small box and walks over to you. He sits next to you and opens the box. Showing you, he says, “Happy anniversary, love.”
Your hands go up, covering your mouth as a feeling of happiness fills you. “Koushi...Thank you...It’s beautiful.”
“Anything for my precious,” He says, taking out the beautiful silver necklace with a tiny silver heart as a pendant.
You smile, moving your hair away and turning away from Suga. He places the necklace on your neck, pendant lightly falling on your collar bone as he fastens it. He let go and you let your hair fall back, turning back to face him. “I-This is stunning.”
“Not as stunning as you,” He murmurs, holding your hair and kissing it.
You feel your heart race as those words left his lips, the huge urge to kiss him. You hug him, grinning like anything. “This makes me so happy. I didn’t get you anything, I was just so excited to see you…”
“Seeing you is the best gift in the world.”
“You’re so cheesy, Koushi,” You giggle, snuggling against his chest.
He pats your hair, “Only when I’m with you.”
You love it when he touches your hair and he knows that too. You feel completely at home and safe in his arms.
He kisses the top of your head and you move a little to face him. His beautiful hazel-brown eyes staring deep into yours. He moves forward, nuzzling his nose on yours. He grins and you say, “That tickles.”
You think of something and immediately decide to execute it. You give Suga a quick peck on the lips, grinning foolishly. “A gift for you.”
Suga is caught off-guard, blushing. “You’re so adorable, Koushi.”
“No fair,” He says teasingly.
He pinches your cheeks lightly as you continue to grin. How you miss fooling around with no care in the world like this with Suga. You make sure to treasure the moment.
He rests his forehead on yours, arms still wrapped around you. He closes his eyes and hums a little melody that you both created back in high school. You close your eyes too, listening to him. To you both, little moments like these meant the world. Just spending time together especially now when it is not a very frequent occurrence. He stops and your eyes flicker open; he’s already staring at you. “How I missed you, (Name). I love you so much.”
“I love you too, Koushi. I’m so happy to be here with you,” You say, a smile never leaving your face; eyes crinkled into half crescents.
The two of you just hold each other in peace; time ticking by, the world moving around you.
Their love and the presence of one another is all they know at the moment. Unwavering and timeless.

Miku, the girl that hardly showed any expressions. Miku who responded with unfeeling smiles when she didn’t want to answer a question. ‘Goodbye (Y/N)’ The last words Miku said to her. And the last words she wrote in her note. The two words left her mouth like always but at that time, it was with that unnerving, fake smile. It sent chills down (Y/N)’s spine and she had a bad feeling. That day she walked home with the worst feeling in her stomach. Of course, she did because the very next day she left (Y/N) the note at the winged bridge and left the world.
(Y/N) woke up, sweating, and tears rolling down her face with Miku’s last words ringing in her head. Breathing deeply, she turned on her bedside lamp and poured herself a glass of water. Gulping it down, she looked at the clock which read 3:45 am. She felt a longing to hear Shoto’s low but smooth voice. She didn’t even know why.
She hesitated to send him a text because it was literally almost 4 am. She didn’t and fell back into bed, trying to fall back asleep. Though, she felt uneasy to fall asleep. All the thoughts surrounding Miku were swirling in her mind. They were so loud and couldn’t be quietened.
She was inconsolable after finding out what had happened. After her tears dried up, she was unresponsive. She felt numb, unable to make herself do anything. The scenario of Miku saying goodbye played in her mind, again and again, in a loop.
Worried, her parents took her to see a therapist. It took her weeks to begin to respond to the therapist. When she did, her emotions were overflowing. Guilt, sadness, anger, frustration, loss, and most of all the feeling of helplessness.
Over time, she managed to get herself together but the experience never left her. Every day, she wished she could have done something different and it wouldn’t have ended like that. She started visiting the bridge as a coping mechanism as well. Every day, after the appointment with her therapist, without fail.
Then she met Shoto there. By the time, she met him, she was already doing much better. But the trauma never disappeared. She learned to be cheerful again but it didn’t mean she was completely okay. She knew she would never be the same again. She had to live with it for she still had people who cared so much about her. She couldn’t worry her parents any longer so she tried her best. Meeting Shoto at the bridge after her sessions was a peaceful routine she appreciated. He was the peace she needed. And he chose to stay by her side after seeing her so vulnerable and defeated.
(Y/N) didn’t tell much to Shoto. She doesn’t intend to. It was still too much to talk about. It felt like reliving it all over again.
(Y/N) tossed and turned but couldn’t fall back asleep. She did what she didn’t do earlier. She sent Shoto a text, fully expecting no reply. After all, it was 4:14 am when she sent it.
Her phone started buzzing. She looked at the caller ID, it was Shoto. She picked and his voice came through.
“Sorry, did I wake you?” (Y/N) asked.
“No. I couldn’t sleep. You too?” Shoto replied.
“Yeah…”
His voice comforted her. She felt less alone and trapped by her own thoughts. Just hearing his voice turned the storm inside her into a lull. She wasn’t ready to let him know about her completely. Yet, she longed to know more about him, He was still a mystery despite her asking many questions. Then and again, she never asked too personal questions.
(Y/N) talked to Shoto till she fell asleep while on the call. Shoto smiled and ended the call when she no longer responded. The girl he met on the bridge had many sides to her and he wanted to know more about each and every one of them. He had never felt this way before. He felt like he could express himself better with her even though he always found it difficult to. She had changed him and he wished to help her.
That day, Shoto had seen a new side to her and their relationship had changed once. But it would change once more and many times over. After all, they met for a reason.

»»—————————————♡ —————————————««
By now (Y/N) and Shoto meeting at the winged bridge was a norm. They enjoyed each other’s company and they often headed to (Y/N)’s bakery. Her parents were always so welcoming and amiable. Slowly easing into it, their conversation grew longer. (Y/N) liked that Shoto started to be more comfortable with her.
Observing photography work at (Y/N)’s uncle’s studio also became a normal part of Shoto’s routine. He would visit his mother for a much shorter time now but he never failed to. Spent most time at the studio but he also frequented the bridge like usual. He wanted to see (Y/N) after all.
Following the usual routine, Shoto made his way to the bridge. Revealing (Y/N)’s form, sitting on the bridge. Shoto could hear soft sniffles and sobs coming from the small figure. He hesitated if he should walk to her or not. Maybe she wanted to be alone. But he decided against not doing anything. He didn’t want her to cry anymore. Concerned, he walked toward (Y/N). He asked softly, “Are you okay?”
The moment (Y/N) heard the footsteps, she quickly wiped her tears and looked at Shoto with a smile. He stood above her with a faintly worried expression as she said, “I’m okay. Totally fine.”
She clearly wasn’t. Shoto sighed and sat beside her. “I know you’re not fine. You don’t need to hide it.”
“No, really. I’m good. See!” (Y/N) said, showing him a weak smile.
But Shoto already saw her crying before. He normally wouldn’t pry but last time he saw her shed a tear and this time she was crying. He wanted to see if he could be any help to her. Or at least support her.
“You don’t need to explain anything...Just let it out. I won’t look…,” Shoto said, turning away from her.
Her smile melted away. The gentleness of his words made her tears flow out like a flood. She always hated crying in front of others for fear that they would worry. But this time, she couldn’t hold back. She grabbed the hem of his shirt and let her tears fall uncontrollably.
He promised to look away so he did though he had a huge urge to hug her. Her crying made his chest hurt in pain. He didn’t want her to cry anymore longer. Her cries grew softer and eventually died down to small sniffles. Shoto turned to look at her slowly. Seeing her like that broke his heart. He really didn’t know what to do, for he had never comforted anyone before.
(Y/N) clung to the hem of Shoto’s shirt. Her tears had stopped but it seemed like she was going to burst into tears again. With a heavy heart and wanting to know what made the cheerful girl so sad, he asked, “Do you want to talk about it?”
She sniffled and shook her head. She really didn’t want to talk about it, for it hurt too much. They stayed in silence till (Y/N)’s breath steadied. She wiped her tears and twiddled her fingers. She had shown her vulnerable side and was unable to say anything.
‘I really don’t want to tell him anything...But I worry that I’ve worried him…’
‘Maybe if it’s him, it’s okay. We didn’t know each other before this anyways…’
‘This is my regret as it is already far too late. I’ll tell him about it.’
(Y/N) flipped her hair back and wiped her face with her hands. She opened her mouth to say something but nothing came out. She tried again and still nothing.
The third time she managed to say, “Listen.”
Her voice cracked and Shoto perked up, full attention on her.
“I...had a friend.”
“And she…”
“Killed herself…”
Those words reverberated in (Y/N)’s head as she said it. It was the first time she spoke of this to anyone besides her therapist. She never even told her parents. Shoto was stunned to hear this. He couldn’t have even imagined it. How strong he thought she was, to be able to be so joyful after something this traumatic happened to her. His heart heavy, hearing the burden the girl had to carry. How painful it must have been.
“And I couldn’t do... anything...about it…..”
“I...was too late...already...when she left me...the...note....”
Tears resurfaced as she spoke. One tear at a time till it overflowed.
“Even though...I knew..., even though...I could...see...her injuries...but…”
“No matter...how much I asked...she never...told me how...she got them…”
“Did I...not try...hard...enough?”
“Where...did I...go wrong?”
Her voice laced with pure pain as she spoke. Shoto knew she blamed herself and he wished he could take away her pain. But, heavens, he couldn’t imagine losing someone like that. The ones left behind hurt the most after the one who was hurting leaves the world.
(Y/N) opened her mouth to say more but nothing came out. Her tears stopped and her eyes dull. Like the light was sucked out of her. Even though, she was the brightest person Shoto knew. Her words, her tears, her light, they all were swallowed by the dark, murky waves and could not be heard or seen.
Shoto was in a state of inner turmoil. He had no idea what to say or how to comfort her. He cursed his incompetence. All he managed to do was to hold her hand. She faced him, tear-stained cheeks and worn-out expression. He said softly, “I’m so sorry to hear this. I don’t know what to say but I’m here for you if you need me.”
“I’ll stay by you or leave if that’s what you want.”
(Y/N) turned to the side, facing away from Shoto but her hand unmoving under Shoto’s. She replied quietly, “...Stay...please…”
‘Please!...’
Shoto nodded and the two stayed in silence. (Y/N)’s breath steadied eventually and Shoto asked, “Do you want to talk about it?”
(Y/N) shook her head and looked down at her hands. It was far too painful to talk about without breaking down. Shoto nodded to her response while she tried to collect herself. She had an outburst in front of him. ‘How embarrassing! But I feel so much better...Just letting it out…’
“I’m sorry, I gotta go…,” (Y/N) said standing and running off.
Before she was out of sight, she turned and said with a sad smile, “Thank you…”
His chest felt uneasy. The sight of the girl drenched in tears brought him pain. Though, the last bit made him glad he stood by her and he hoped that his presence helped her. He wouldn’t want anything more than that. He ruffled his hair and started taking pictures with the girl in mind and wondered what he could do to make her feel better.

Turning the key, the door clicks open. Haru trudges in tiredly, sighing. The air slightly lighter than outside; he exhales through his mouth, pensively. He makes his way to the bathroom, stripping off his clothes. Taking a quick shower, he relaxes in the bathtub.
Sighing, he sinks into the water. His tense muscles relax at the touch of water. Work had been hectic and stressful. It wasn’t easy to deal with Hoshino’s remarks; most times, they were bearable but today, in particular, hit somewhat hard. He doesn’t understand how they end up having to face each other every time.
Another sigh escapes his lips, but the warm water makes him feel more at ease. He pushes away the intrusive thoughts leading him to think about his precious (Name). She is the bright ball of sunshine in his dull, normal life. Even now, he can’t believe or comprehend how she came to like him back in the second year of high school. Back then, he wasn’t particularly the life of the class. He was a regular student, mostly blending in the background. Whereas, she was the light of the class. Everyone liked her and gravitated towards her. After all, she was kind to everyone and very genuine. That’s what Haru loves about her. Even now, so many years later, he’s still in awe at her. Her entire personality is so beautiful and precious to him.
A clear day, bright blue sky and the sun shining. Haru makes his way back to class after P.E. He turns the corner and collides with someone. “Ouch.”
He looks at who it is after hearing something drop. It’s (Name), his class president—the nice girl, the girl everyone likes. That’s the general opinion he had of her. He knew about her but they never talked besides studies related things.
“Sorry, are you okay?”
“I’m sorry!” (Name) says, picking up her books that were scattered on the floor.
Her eyes meet his golden ones, and she immediately averts her gaze, looking at the books as she collects them, a slight red hue on her face.
“Let me help,” Haru says.
“N-no! It’s fine,” (Name) insists.
“Let me do it,” Haru replies, picking up the books.
They are of the homework that is due today. Class president duties. “I’ll help bring them to the staffroom.”
Haru is just helping out a fellow peer. “Ah, thank you,” (Name) replies softly, giving up on denying his offer.
Besides, it is her first time interacting with him, aside from class-related things. Her heart beating fast as they head over to the staffroom and drop off the books.
“Thank you!” (Name) says with a bow.
Haru touches his neck, “It’s no problem (Last Name)-san.”
That was the first encounter that triggered many other meetings. (Name) found the courage to come up to him, and they slowly had long conversations until it led to this moment.
“I like you! Go out with me?” Haru asks his entire face beet red.
(Name)’s face flushed crimson, matching Haru’s as she feels her words are being swallowed. She tries to speak but no words come out, so she resorts to nodding. Haru’s face lights up, smile engulfing his face. He takes her hands and says, “I’m so happy!”
“...Me too,” (Name) replies.
A beautiful day on the rooftop. The time when they first became a couple. But two separate occasions made them realize they loved each other. For (Name), it was before their corridor collision.
Haru minds his own business during recess, looking for a quiet spot to sleep. Instead, he comes upon a shitty scene—a bunch of immature students teasing a little kitten with a stick. Anger surges through him. They are bothering and hurting the small cat. He runs there and yells, “Hey!”
The students, who are first years from the looks of their ties, look back at Haru. “Leave the kitten alone!” He yells, glaring at them.
“Shit, it’s a senpai,” One of the guys says, nudging the other two.
They drop the stick and run off, terrified by Haru’s glare. He slowly walks up to the kitten. The poor thing so terrified and whimpering. Haru lightly pats the kitten’s back, super slowly. “It’s okay now,” He says softly.
He pets the kitten couple more times. “I’ll name you Misu, like tiramisu,” He says, chuckling.
Misu eventually stops whimpering and rubs against Haru’s legs, mewing loudly. Haru smiles softly. He stays there with the kitten for the rest of the break, playing with Misu.
What Haru didn’t know was that (Name) saw the entire thing go down. She was about to go stop the students, but Haru beat her to it. Before this, she noticed the little things he did for people. He was kind, but she didn’t know he was able to make such soft expressions. Most people overlooked his little acts of kindness but she did. So this situation was the trigger to her realizing her feelings for him.
Haru, on the other hand, didn’t have feelings for her prior to them colliding in the corridor. It started after they began to talk more. But, one particular event made it all clear to him.
The school festival is approaching. Preparations are on-going. (Name) is in charge of supervising everything and she is getting overwhelmed by the responsibility. Taking a quick breather, (Name) heads up to the roof. She collapses in a corner, tears falling. The work is taking a toll on her. Things are going wrong and their class can’t seem to agree on anything. She can’t even figure out what to do and she feels all alone. All she can do is let her tears out and go back to try to fix the mess. Alone.
Except she isn’t alone. Haru sneaked out before and is chilling with Misu up on the upper level of the roof. (Name) doesn’t notice her but he notices soft sniffling sounds. He gets up to see who it is. Horrified to see her crying. He has never seen her cry as she is always smiling. For a moment, he doesn’t know if he should comfort her or not.
But Misu has other plans. She jumps off and runs to her. “Misu!” Haru hisses. (Name) looks, eyes locking with Haru’s. She quickly wipes away her tears. Haru comes down and walks to her, picking up Misu. He sits next to her, placing Misu in his lap, stroking Misu’s head.
“Are you okay?”
“Yeah,” (Name) replies, smiling at him.
“No, you’re not. You don’t need to hide it from me,” Haru says.
(Name) doesn’t reply to what he says. “The cat’s name is Misu?”
“Yeah.”
“What a weird name. Can I hold Misu?” (Name) chuckles.
Haru nods and lets her take the kitten. Misu purrs as (Name) tickles under the neck.
“Do you want to talk?” Haru asks, looking at the sky.
(Name) nods. She slowly tells him about her troubles and Haru attentively listens and gives his opinions.
“You’re taking on too much by yourself. You can ask for help. Rely on other people. Rely on me,” Haru says.
(Name) stops stroking Misu, staring at Haru. “I-uh-That’s a first someone said to me.”
“Thank you…,” She mutters.
She lets Misu run off and gets up, dusting her skirt. She smiles at Haru, “Thank you for listening to me. I feel much better. Please help me.”
“Of course,” Haru says, standing as well.
This little encounter where Haru saw a different side to (Name) made him realize his feelings. He saw her vulnerable and human whereas before they weren’t on the terms to talk about deeper topics, only casual conversations. This time he wanted to protect her, support her and bring a smile to her face. His heart started beating fast for her, in a way it never did before.
Reminiscing about all the moments that led them to where they are now, Haru gets out of the tub. The soak did him good, he feels much better but still slightly apprehensive. And thinking about (Name) helps. His beautiful girlfriend.
He throws on some sweats and decides to make his favorite curry. He turns on the rice cooker. Chopping up the vegetables and meat, tossing them into a large pot along with curry roux. Soon, the aroma of curry spread in his entire apartment. As soon as he closes the stove, the bell rings.
He opens the door, revealing (Name) smiling. "Hope I'm in time for dinner! I brought tiramisu! Your favorite!"
"(Name), right on time. Come in!" Haru says, smiling.
His expression softens as (Name) makes her way inside. At the age of 29, he can truly say that she is the love of his life. After all, they have been through thick and thin. Through the good times and the bad times, fought a lot, and made up a lot.
(Name) leaves the tiramisu in the fridge and serves the curry Haru made. Haru just looks at her, smiling lovingly. Just looking at her makes him so happy, all his troubles gone. (Name) tucks her hair back and notices Haru staring, “What are you looking at?”
“My beautiful girlfriend. Can’t I?” He grins.
“You’re so cheesy,” (Name) laughs.
She puts the food on the table and Haru joins. The two share a light-hearted dinner and dessert, chatting about their days. Haru doesn’t mention how he is affected by Hoshino’s remarks. Once the dishes are in the sink, (Name) flops onto Haru’s bed.
Haru joins her there and she says, “So, tell me what’s wrong.”
“What?” Haru asks.
“Don’t play dumb. I’ve known you long enough that you’re troubled by something. Did something happen at work?” (Name) asks, worried.
Haru sighs, “I can’t hide anything from you, huh?”
“You can’t so talk to me. I’m always here for you,” (Name) replies, touching his hand.
“...Hoshino,” Haru mutters.
Groaning, “Him again?! Will he cut it out? What did he say, Haru?”
“It was another bank robbery and Kambe and I were chasing a different criminal but he headed to the bank so we followed him. Hoshino and the rest were there because of the bank robbery. As if it wasn’t bad enough that the set up was exactly like back then. Hoshino had to tell me not to get in their way,” He explains.
(Name) squeezes Haru’s hand, his expression turning grim. She stays quiet and lets him speak.
“He also told me not accidentally shoot someone again...and he added that I couldn’t because I’m longer in Division One and not authorized to use a gun...I-It’s not just his words...It reminds me of what I have done...I’m a failure as a cop and now, I’m too terrified to use a gun…I-I can’t forgive myself for letting that happen,” Haru says, hands trembling.
(Name) feels them shaking so she moves and hugs him. “Shh, what happened back then wasn’t your fault, okay? You were startled, you had no idea the employee was involved with the criminals. It was an accident, okay? You’re not at fault. Hoshino has no right to say that to you. You’re the justest cop I know. You have helped countless people and even now, you do the same. I know you better than anyone, I know that you mean the best and you’re so hardworking and sympathetic. You’re more caring than anyone I know so don’t doubt the man I’ve come to love, okay?” (Name) says quietly but loud enough for him to hear.
Haru’s face is buried in her shoulder. He stirs slightly as she speaks. He holds her tightly, scared to let go. His past mistakes always came back to haunt him, but (Name) is there to support him. He feels he might cry, he lets her go.
Haru faces (Name) and she’s smiling at him, “I love you, Haru. Every part of you.”
Haru’s face scrunches up, he might actually cry. He controls himself, though. “Oh my! Don’t cry, Haru!”
“I’m not!” Haru exclaims.
She grins, “I know, love.”
Haru smiles and whispers, “I love you so much. I can’t imagine life without you.”
(Name)’s grin widens as she jumps on him, crashing her lips into his. How bold she is. She wasn’t that forward back in high school.
Haru falls back on his bed but kisses her back, holding her hair. (Name) breaks the kiss and rolls over so that she’s lying beside Haru and staring at the ceiling. “I’m going to protect you!”
Haru chuckles, facing her, “Aren’t I supposed to protect you?”
She locks her eyes with his, “We’ll protect each other!”
“Okay,” Haru replies, feeling better than ever.
She really is his bright ball of sunshine. She was so radiating beautiful; inside out. He smiles at her and she shoots back the most adorable toothy grin.
