Please Reblog is Your Blog is Safe for Non-Binary People.
If my mutuals can’t rb this then we can’t be mutuals
Ive said it before and ill say it again all kind people are welcome here.
If you don’t support nonbinary people, then get the fuck away from my blog
Besides it’d be really weird if I didn’t support nonbinary people considering that I’m agender
i think r/BenignExistence is my favorite subreddit 🥲 i love these pleasant little glimpses into strangers' lives
"If this isn't nice, I don't know what is." -- Kurt Vonnegut
am i allowed to say kill all trillionaires or is that too specific of a threat
I maintain that any one person who reaches a net worth of one billion dollars should have everything after that taxed at 100%.
You made one billion dollars? Congratulations, you won capitalism. You can't spend that much. Give the rest back.
No one person should have a net worth greater than almost 200 countries.
"your life is yours to mold" oh nooooooooo oh no oh my god. oh fuck me. no. oh my god. oh im so fucked dude.
Same, dude. Same.
THE PITT 2.08: 2:00 P.M.
So this one time my friend(F) & I, both adults at this point, were talking to my friend's mom(FM). I forget what the inciting statement was, but friend's mom said "I'm older than cinders", and friend F & I laughed. "No," she FM added, "really. When I was little playgrounds were built on cinders, not sand like they are now."
F & I considered this for a moment. This was new information for us having grown up in the age of sand below playgrounds. Then I, helpfully, realized something & added "hey, that means we're older than plastic!" Playground when we were little were all metal & raggedy wood.
It may not be chatrs by candlelight, but I think it counts.
Alternatively, maybe that's why they used to give nurses little Florence Nightingale lamps at their graduation, so they could chat by candle light??
And for the record, I didn't know any dinosaurs personally, but my favorite has always been the Ankylosaurus. I even have a pair of ankylosaurus earrings to remeber them by.
They had not been seen together in the museum galleries for quite a while. Monet’s “Women with Umbrellas” are once again side by side in the Impressionist gallery.
AND THEN THEY LIVED HAPPILY EVER AFTER THE END!!!!
ok every time this post comes by i resist geeking out on it but NO LONGER so these women are probably the same woman and that woman is monet’s wife camille doncieux. he painted her a LOT. but fun fact: monet had this asshole friend named ernest hochede, and ernest racked up some debts, and like an asshole he basically just fled the country, leaving his wife alice and their six kiddos behind. monet immediately got alice and kids to move in with him, camille, and their two kids. at this point, monet, alice, and camille became my favorite probably historic poly threesome. they lived together, taking care of the kids. they were so poor that alice and camille took turns wearing the nice dress so they could go out with monet. when camille got uterine cancer and began dying, alice helped monet cope and took care of things while he painted camille over and over. when camille died, alice is the reason monet was able to survive. when ernest finally died, monet and alice married, and remained married until alice died. at that point, blanche, the oldest daughter, took care of monet until he died. anyway, the point is, the umbrella ladies are probably the same ladies, but as far as i’m concerned, there WAS a historically queer poly family in that household and they were wonderful.
this is a fucking joy
I love rebloging. It’s the adult equivalent of showing everyone the cool rock I just found.
My resolution last year was to do one thing before bed that would make my morning feel easier, and that’s become a daily habit that I’m carrying into this new year.
Some nights even filling up the kettle and setting an empty mug out for my morning tea felt hard. But I was always thankful for it in the morning.
Other nights, one thing would lead to another, and I’d wake up in a clean house with everything ready to go.
And, on a rare few nights, the one thing that I could do to make my morning easier was going straight to bed and allowing myself to rest.
What stayed the same each day is that I would take a moment to think of what I could do for my future self and do it, even after a hard day. And I would wake up knowing that I had done my best and any effort—no matter how small—was a kindness to myself.
I’ve been doing a lot of “a treat for future me” moments lately.
That’s a great way to look at it, and I love this artist! (Anna-Laura: instagram / website)
Our dog is named Batman. He’s a mid sized, part lab mix, black dog with a (initially at least) lone patch of white fur that - if you let it - might be mistaken for a bat symbol. He’s old enough now than he’s gotten increasingly big patches of white on his brows, his paws, his chest & his snoot. It kinda looks he just came in from playing in the snow, it’s pretty adorable. Some of his favorite things include licking rain puddles or eating snow -depending on the season-, being given the first piece of bread on grilled cheese night, and taking sun baths on the back deck.
Not sure when it will be, but our Dark Knight isn’t long for the world. He’s been sick for a while & it isn’t the kind he’ll recover from.
Everybody in the house loves him, but Batman is my buddy. His tail wags happily & he has to come get pets & give kisses when I come back in the house, he curls up by me when I watch tv, he comes to find me when it storms, most nights, increasingly so lately, he sleeps on my bed at night. It’s one of my favorite things when he woofs in his sleep because he’s dreaming.
He’s such a sweet friend who’s currently laying against my leg, using my foot for a pillow. I really wanna get up, I need to move, my foot is going numb & the pins & needles are creeping up my leg, but I won’t. Because I help him feel comfy & safe, and who knows how many naps or snuggles we have left. The whole Rogues’ Gallery of Gotham wouldn’t get me to move until he’s ready.
my favorite video game quest trope is "HELP US, THEY ARE STEALING OUR ANCIENT ARTIFACT. THANK YOU FOR HELPING US, AS A REWARD YOU MAY HAVE OUR ANCIENT ARTIFACT"
the ancient artifact was less important than having agency in its distribution
Nothing is more important than keeping it out of the hands of the British museum
ngl, 4-1 with the one loss being the game Trump was at IS way funnier than a sweep
I don't even watch basketball & I agree with this.
the world is running out of glassblowers and yet you want to become a fucking doctor
One of the most jarring moments of my university education was in a physics class when I was given a device that measures gravity and was told “this cost the university sixteen thousand dollars, but the only glass blower in the world who could make the glass springs inside it died so it’s literally irreplaceable. If you drop it those springs will shatter. Go fuck around with it for a day and take some measurements”
In the UK there's a thing called the endangered crafts list which I highly recommend if you fancy discovering some crafts you never even knew existed. Scientific and optical instrument making is considered 'critically endangered' and glassworking (scientific glassware) is just considered endangered, which is for 'crafts with a shrinking market share, an ageing demographic or crafts with a declining number of practitioners.' There's some other crafts in that category which are easier to teach yourself or go to classes on that list, like lithography, marbling or block printing on fabric, so it might be worth considering those if you're looking for something to try.
hey did you know??? that if you stop stretching and maintaining mobility in your body then it goes away?? things get tight and you can't move the way that you used to??? and when you decide to try getting a stretch routine going that the first week fucking sucks because you keep going 'damn i used to be able to do this no problem' and then you have to switch gears and be kind to yourself and just focus on getting better from here instead of berating yourself for dropping the good habits in the first place??? and your body never stops aging so you gotta keep taking care of it and sometimes you gotta take care of it extra in certain areas because of things that happened when you were younger and it's boring and sometimes hurts but it's so necessary???
i am yelling this at myself right now i am going through An Experience (trying to get into a routine of body maintenance again for my physical and mental health)
oh, Sisyphus! i got you
I used to do, and love, yoga. But after a good, regular practice for a couple of years, life tackled me & the practice fell to the wayside. My boulder (metaphorically, really is mat shaped) sits largely untouched in the corner of my room.
I miss it, but can't seem to make myself get back on.
ok so this is another long shot but a few years ago there was a twitter post (in japanese i think?) that had measurememts for how to make this book stand thing out of cardboard that you could use to double up books and use up more space on shelves
back then i made a bunch of these but by now i lost the pic and dont know how to find the original post anymore
if it comes down to it i can just take one apart and get the measurements from there but i would be very grateful if anyone happens to have the original post or something similar??
don't mind how long it's been since i made this post, anyway i realized that i don't even need to take one apart to get the measurements when i can literally just unfold it and refold it /FACEPALM
so anyway here is the diagram for anyone else who is interested!!
this requires pretty big carboard pieces, if you have a really big box or something you can make it from one piece, but if you don't, you can also just make each of the pieces individually and then tape them together
and then in the end you put it together like this!!
and then when you make a bunch you can put them all next to each other and stack your books like crazy
EVERYONE START GETTING MORE USE OUT OF YOUR SPACE NOW!!!!
My crowded bookcase & spillover stacks on the floor thank you, kind internet stranger.
