( ; if she noticed his incredulous expression, amber sure did not showcase it upon her face, instead grinning cheekily away as before. once he turned away from her to survey his work, she did the same once more, taking in the full picture before her eyes began to trace the individual strokes that made up the piece. it was certainly much better than anything she could have attempted but that wasn't saying a lot, considering the blond was a terrible artist. or, at least, when it came to drawing. er, spray-painting. whatever ) ah, yes. consequences. you have to...uh...drop and give me twenty push-ups. ( ; okay, so that had to be the dumbest consequence for vandalizing public property, but who cared! she was a captain, after all-- so it totally made sense. what she said goes ) my, you sure are polite for a hoodlum. ( ; and that was said in the cheekiest of tones, because it wasn't like wanted to offend him or anything. for some reason, amber was much too good at doing that, taking her practical jokes way too far for the other party to handle ) it would be great to go by captain obvious 24/7, but alas, i cannot. amber liu's the name. and you would be? you know, common courtesy and all that.

"no— ah—!” soojung flinches; reflexes directing her to whip around and swat amber’s cold-as-fuck hand away from her neck. a punch to the arm, a narrowing of the eyes that’s supposed to be a glare; a brisk walking away, hair swaying as she goes through the doors herself.

she pauses by the entrance to wait for her friend, of course; standing near the wall, scanning the thicket of teenagers and twenty-somethings, the room full of hopefuls.

soojung can practically smell the ambition.

she tilts her head, reaching behind for her hair and absnetly running her fingers through her ponytail once. the instructor isn’t here yet. she looks to the door to see where amber is.

so maybe it is extremely childish of her to snicker at soojung's reaction, but amber can't help doing it all the same, grin wide and bright. she follows the other to the doors, who surprisingly enough learnt from her mistake and waited instead of plowing on forward.

"looks like you can teach an old dog new tricks," she jokes, slinging an arm over the other female's shoulder and guiding her into the room, whistling cheerily as she does so.

however, while she looks calm and collected, amber still feels uncertainty clawing up her insides as she looks around the room quietly, taking in the crowd of rookies, waiting anxiously for the instructor to arrive.

"what do you think?" amber murmurs to her partner. "some of them look like they've never danced in their life." don't ask how she knows, she just does.

"Creative free-time," she mutters. "Creative free-time. What does that even mean?"

With a sigh, she scopes out her surroundings, holding the neck of her guitar and shifting awkwardly in place. Normally she would be able to come up to anyone and strike up a friendly conversation, except she can't help feel inferior, considering these people are kind of sort of her competition.

Amber has never done well with such things, hence her rarely trying out for the school play in high school or anything of the sort. Jitters always cause her to bow out quickly, or else she ends up with a twisted tongue and shaky limbs. Her hands are trembling right now, in fact.

That's when she notices a familiar face, however. She knows him-- the man who she had caught spray-painting a little while back. Her brows raise at the sight of him and the guitar resting on his lap. Before she can think to stop herself, she is making her way towards him.

"Looks like it's a small world after all," Amber says, staring down at him. Then she purses her lips and thinks over her words. "Or, well. Small country. You know what I mean."

Okay, so maybe taking beginners for guitar was a bit stupid, considering that she was actually pretty good at it. But the way she saw it, if she chose an instrument she was talented at, then that way the performance would go off without a hitch for her, showcasing her talents.

It seemed like such a great idea, one so original and amazing that no one could have possibly thought it up. She deserved a pat on the back, really...

Except that practically everyone in the class had come up with the same idea, from the looks of it. Or were just really awesome at picking up instruments right off the bat. Some were most definitely better than her.

Amber resisted the urge to sigh, fingers flexing around the neck of her guitar, and continued to scope out the 'competition'. Everyone was strumming away without a hitch, faces pinched in concentration. Others were looking around the room as well with narrowed eyes as well, so she made sure not to make awkward eye contact with them.

Then her eyes settled on someone struggling with playing the guitar. His fingers were awkward over the strings, and was he...playing from the bottom up? The instructor had gone over the basics on how to play; it appeared that he missed the memo.

She appraised him for a moment longer, then made up her mind and got up, making her way over, and sat down in the empty chair next to him.

"First time?"

casual clothes from the photoshoot unchanged save for the flats traded for a pair of New Balance, and the same brown canvas backpack from before hanging onto her plain white shirt-covered shoulders; soojung stares back at the glass, carefully watching the way her hair settles when she runs her fingers through luscious black locks, sweeps them into a messy ponytail, pulling here and tugging there until she achieves the mussed style she wants.

cold water rushes from the activated tap; soap suds have barely begun to fill the spaces between her rubbed fingers when she washes her hands off and walks to the drier that doesn’t work.

her lower lip juts out, for a moment she stares at her hands, wonders what to do with them; and, turns around when she hears a cubicle door open.

there’s no one here but them, after all.

ding!

inconspicuously, she walks to her friend. then, with a few flicks of her fingers, splashes her with the droplets of water that have accumulated at her finger tips—smile kept, but amusement evident.

dried hands, satisfied, and sufficiently entertained—soojung gives the mirror one last long look and a smile of approval before walking back out into the hallway, expecting amber to just follow suit, of course.

her hands tremble just barely, and she clasps them together for a moment and takes a small breather. this camp has been equal parts fun and horrible, considering the fact that she has realized just how in over her head she is around people who are so sure of their futures, who want the idol life to be their world.

she, on the other hand, just wished to be admitted because there are no other prospects she can think of. on a whim, more or less. she has made friends, strengthened her friendships even, but that does not make her anxiety any less there. but she closes her eyes and takes a deep breath. she's done good so far. she's going to be just fine. this camp experience is going to be fun.

amber opens her eyes. her hands don't tremble as she opens the cubicle and sees soojung there. she gives her a wide smile, only to flinch as water hits her. she glares jokingly at the other as she walks up to the sink and begins to wash her hands.

soojung leaves, then. expecting her to follow no doubt. amber sighs out a laugh and quickly dries her hands by shaking them vigorously, then makes her way into the hallway.

"what, can't give up looking cool for two minutes by waiting up for your bestest friend?" she asks her once she catches up to her. she pauses a moment, and then is pressing her ice-cold fingers to the back of her neck.

revenge is a dish best served cold, after all.

( * jaebum’s actually not really much of a comic-reading person — he’s into marvel and dc and all that, of course, but he’s not one to go ahead and read several issues of the latest spiderman adventure — well, in all honesty, he’s not one to really read in general, but he does enjoy to browse the plexiglas displays full of valuable issues and memorabilia, it gives him a sort of nostalgia, even though he doesn’t recall going to any comic book stores in hawaii, if there were any — he enters the store, offering a polite bow to any visible employees, and he’s startled at the loud coughing sound coming from behind him, but he’s relieved to know it’s just another employee — he could have sworn he bowed to her, but whatever ) uh, no! i’m just browsing — ( * the words flow out in effortless and habitual english ) ah, sorry, i should probably speak in korean, right?

( ; it is still impossible for her to get used to how polite people are here. bowing, using formal language, apologizing even though there isn't anything to apologize for... it's a big change from the states. not that everyone she met there had been horrible, rude people, but in south korea, people kept their dislike of people well under wraps. though she isn't sure if that's a good thing, but it's probably best not to think about such topics when she has a customer to handle. she doesn't even notice that he spoke in english until he brings it up, blinking rapidly as her eyebrows hike up, mouth parting open slightly ) oh. you spoke english. i didn't realize it for a second there. man, you don't know how glad i am you did! it's been way too long since i've talked to anyone in english. ( ; aaand that's when she reminded herself that she is working and he is her customer and she is supposed to be, well, professional. even if she does suck at it ) oh! sorry! i'm being way too informal. uhm, so. are you thinking of buying anything or...?

( ; a short laugh left her lips at the other girl's apology. that hadn't been what she thought she would say. what was there to be sorry for, anyway? nothing, in amber's opinion ) don't sweat it, min. my feelings aren't hurt or anything that you didn't greet me, y'know. though if you had left without saying at least a hello, i'm sure my heart would've been broken. but i know that feel; comics over people any day. ( ; okay, so that was a huge exaggeration on her part, considering what a social butterfly she was, but whatever. it wasn't like min was going to call her out on it and be angry over it or anything. no harm, no foul. or at least that was how she thought the saying went ) hmm, well, real life does that to you. but doesn't mean you can't catch up! and yeah, gimme. ( ; with that, she grabbed her phone from her and entered her number and contact information, before handing it back ) i like your phone, by the way. much better than my old one. just text me and let me know it's you, otherwise i'll think it's some random creep. and no problem! i am sort of a loner here in seoul still, so. no red you need to wipe off your ledger.

( ; when the male took her words in stride, her brows hiked up towards her hairline in surprise. her grin had widened, previously, when the line of his back had straightened almost imperceptibly at the sound of her voice, only for him to practically ooze confidence in his reply. well, well. colour her impressed. then he grinned at her kindly enough, not looking angered or irritated by her presence, and so she allowed a small grin to replace her shocked look. amber had been a bit unsure of whether she would be greeted with bared teeth, teary eyes, or something else altogether. his response had been the best out of all the above ) captain obvious, huh? i like the sound of that. don't mention it, kid. ( ; okay, so he might be older than her-- there was no telling, considering she had never been good at guessing people's ages. still, she had a good feeling being in his company would be nothing short of amusing ) well, that's why captain obvious is here. always looking out for you unruly kids, even if what you're...spray-painting does look pretty cool.

` making small talk — shindong&amber

Since Lily was going to be meeting up with a friend of hers who was vacationing in California with her family, she had the bright idea of Amber and said friend's husband to spend time together. Sure, Amber was a fairly extroverted individual, but she didn't do well in situations where she was not-so-subtly forced to make small talk.

But nonetheless, here they were, sitting in Lily and Amber's living room. It was completely silent, with Amber scrambling for something to say. She cleared her throat awkwardly, shifting where she sat, and then absentmindedly scratched the back of her neck. Her search of interesting conversation came up blank, as it had been for a short while now. Not even surprising.

She found herself wondering, what would Lily do in such a situation? Probably be very polite, offer something to eat or drink... oh. Right. She had yet to do that.

"Uh, do you want anything? Like, to eat or drink?" she asked the man politely. Thank God she still remembered Korean even after four years of living in the States, though her accent was pretty bad, the syllables heavy and awkward on her tongue. Oh well-- she doubted that Boah and Shindong knew English. Hadn't Lily mentioned in passing once that they didn't?

They probably didn't, she decided, and then focused instead on Shindong's response.
