it might be bias but gunhee is one of the trainees yixing is most excited to work with. the other guys in sphere are friendly, nice, and he thinks it’d be great to become closer to them all but gunhee has an aura about him that’s calming yet welcoming. but yixing’s infamous for easily making himself too comfortable. he can be right at home whenever everyone else is on edge. a talent and a curse because he has no idea. to him, friendliness is a trait he can’t demonstrate enough of. outgoing goes hand and hand with it and with charm. for years, he’d been so set on trying to charm people he forgets it can make some uncomfortable with him. when he looks at gunhee, he doesn’t know what way the other will take it but he’s happy to find out.
he nods in agreement, his initial instinct to reply in chinese and he catches himself, a smile on his lips as he makes the transition to korean instead. “yes, that one! aaa, what did you think of it?” the question makes him pause for a moment and he has to think about the songs he’s tried to compose so far. most are ballads but not all and he thinks it’s a matter of his state of mind at the moment but for the eval, he had one specific reason. “i like ballads but i chose a ballad then because… that’s the melody that made me think of christmas and winter. christmas carols are brighter, faster, catchy but winter to me is… softer. what about you? what do you compose most? do you have a favorite?”
gunhee is always nervous around those that seem overly friendly - overly charming, because he himself .. is not. he doesn’t think of himself as a point of interest and is easily outshone by the people who keep him company, and that’s slowly become more and more true as time passes on in sphere. it’s becoming clearer to him that they have a charm that’s necessary for idols to possess and it seems more natural than the desperate way he’s trying to learn it. still, he can’t deny that even though people like yixing make him a bit nervous, he still feels comforted in their presence if only because he exists as a shadow to let them gleam. yixing speaks and gunhee listens; perhaps that’s why they’re working together now as a sort of balance.
he nods in the memory as yixing affirms it, the melody of it playing back at him faintly as he thinks. it’s been awhile and gunhee only heard the song once, but from what he remembers, it was sweet and slow, soft like a snowfall from a pale gray sky. when yixing explains it that way, his thin smile surfaces and he nods. “ i can see that. from what i remember of it, you got the feeling right.” his eyes fall to the floor and he scuffs his feet against it. how many songs had he torn and tossed aside, seeking perfection but not finding the right feeling? “ i .. don’t really have a favourite.” he admits finally, if only because it’s true. “ it’s hard finding the right balance but i just like it when songs have feeling.”
