I'm sure someone has made this analysis before, but it kills me how most of the villians are social outcasts in some capacity.
Whether it's through their neurodivergent traits, learning disabilities, or their very existence not being accepted by mainstream society. Being a villian might be the only means to garner any sort of acceptance or praise.
Or at the very least, ANY sort of recognition.
Like, it seems like most of them became villians as a way to find a community more than anything. After all, being a villian is considered a spectacle, and a bragging right even.
Yet, even after having merch made of them, how do these villian fare? The Butcher, a top villian, lives in complete poverty.
So clearly, despite being part of an organization, crime literally doesn't pay, at least not well. And since Wordgirl stops any crime from occurring, the only means for a villian to make money would be to get another job.
Unfortunately, many villians are unable to keep regular jobs. And those that are able to stay employed are often incredibly unhappy.
My point? Villiany is actually a crucial part of the society of the Wordgirl Universe. Though it certainly could use a reform, considering the villians are being taken advantage of for entertainment purposes. And definitely for profit.
And unfortunately, at the end of the day, the person who really has to pay for all of this is a literal child. And in another town, another child is being used in the same way.
Either way, it really makes you think. What would a better future for Fair City look like? 🤔
