Have you ever noticed...

I’ve been collecting these gifs for a while now (almost a year). I find it interesting, and  I don’t think there is any denying it’s more than a coincidence.

If I were braver, I might perhaps delve into how I think maybe both Kurt and Blaine suffer from touch-starvation, a real and diagnosable medical issue. Possibly, I’d boldly declare that Kurt’s love language is words of affirmation (thus the reason he LOVES to be publicly serenaded). There is no way in heck you’re going to touch him until your words make him believe you do care and love him (think about that hug when he finally came out to his dad). And the instant connection he had with Blaine was tied to touch as well. As that trust grew (and words of affirmation spoken), he loved having that connection with Blaine and craved it from then on. I’ll leave those random thoughts there for you to ponder.

In the meantime… This is all the gifs I’ve collected of Kurt when he’s thinking about or near Blaine. Maybe someone else can take this and run with it. I love to hear everyone’s meta—it’s fun.

i think the idea here is that neighborhoods used to be safer and you could reasonably expect a gaggle of kids to be able to keep track of each other, and to be able to trust that your kid could go to someone else's house if they needed help, and the loss of this sense of community is the issue that needs addressing

but you're right that whenever you seem to look at older missing child cases, especially from the 60s or thereabouts, it's like a five year old who was sent to get her brother from the park in the evening, or an eight year old skipping school and just wandering around town alone and going missing, so i think there is some survivorship bias and nostalgic idealism as well

but it should be safe to let your kids play outside and the fact that it's not is definitely a societal failure (and ofc the reason it's not is largely bc of male predators although women will snatch babies)

u also make a good point abt that last tweet lol like i think it touches on a good point abt mothers needing a village, needing a support net, bc now they're more isolated than ever but the truth is that when women are given the freedom of choice they choose to have less kids and any other argument can come across as again idealizing this time when women were pressured or forced to have more children

Also I am asking all of you, once again, to learn about ecosystem conservation and restoration instead of wallowing in "we are already past the point of no return" or that it will take "millennia" to restore ecosystems.

You have to understand that nature does not work in the same timeframe as ours. Protecting and restoring ecosystems is RIDICULOUSLY inexpensive and requires very little industrial technology; shovels and saplings are not exactly high-tech. But it takes time and long-term projects with people determined to do it. Maybe we are too focused in our "we want it now" thinking, but what you see today is not what you may see in 10, 20, 50, even 80 years if you live that long.

But it works. It's working right now, and when capitalism is replaced by socialism and we stop thinking on short-term gain, when our societies are focused into the common welfare instead of accumulation, it will even work better. Again I could point out to individual examples but instead, I encourage you to learn about ecology. We are well past from the catastrophic "Earth will die and there's nothing we can do" predictions from the 80s. We know what to do, we know it can work.

After years of living in the adulting world, I think I’ve come to a realization: Manners exist to guide you to good conduct even when you’re in a bad mood.

When you’re happy, when you’re feeling generous, when you’re pleased with your gift or your service or your outcome, it’s easy to be nice. It’s easy to tip the waiter well when you’ve had a good day. It’s easy to thank the teller or the clerk when you got what you wanted out of the transaction. It’s easy to smile and chit-chat with strangers on the road when you’re in a good mood.

It’s hard to tip the waiter when you didn’t enjoy your food. It’s hard to thank the clerk for their time when you’ve just been told there’s a problem with their account and they weren’t able to fix it for you. It’s hard to think of something nice to say when your aunt gave you a crappy sweater you neither need nor want. It’s hard to be nice to people when you’ve had a shitty day. It’s HARD.

That’s what manners are for. Scripts and phrases that you learn by rote to say when you can’t think of a single nice or good thing to say from your own volition. Yes, they’re scripted. Yes, the sentiment is empty. But the scripts work in every situation, and the emptiness provides a buffer between your own unhappiness and the rest of society.

Because most of the time, it’s not the waiter’s fault that the food you ordered wasn’t what you expected. It’s not the clerk’s fault that your account is overdrawn. It’s not the fault of the barista or the stranger on the subway that you got fired today or your favorite aunt died. But even when you can’t summon a smile or a cheery word, you can still have manners, because they will serve you the same in sunshine or rain.
